My first post deserves a good topic, so here is a picture of my current project:

The story is this was purchased by a local game store and then it languished until the owner brought it out to me during a visit a few weeks ago.  I let out a gasp, because Turbografx items are very rare in my territory (USA) and cause for celebration when anything is found.  I would not leave the store without it.  When I first saw and held it, I thought it was an empty shell, but a quick look around revealed that the main PCB was still inside.

This is my second Turbo Duo, so I was able to test it using my cords.  It has full video, plays HuCards, and sound comes through the headphone jack.  Yes, it needs caps; this is something I can do myself.

What can be done about the missing CD door and drive assembly?  Is the only option to find a Turbo Duo donor system from Japan that is broken and have it shipped here?  Are the missing parts even the same?  My research shows a donor system, shipped to the USA, runs about $110.  I would like to beat this price, if possible.

So far, I have made this system complete.  I added my only spare Turbo Duo controller, found a set of Genesis 1 cables, and found an AC adapter with matching original specs.  I am waiting on the AC connector end to come in from China and I'll quickly solder it all together.  Finding a matching adapter was fairly difficult.

I do not plan on selling this, it has already shaped up to be one of my best finds in the 'wild' I have ever experienced.  Actually, the only Turbografx items I have ever let go were spare copies of Keith Courage  8)

Any advice for a new member?  Also, is there a section for new members to introduce themselves?

Welcome to Pcenginefx!

Most new members start a self-introduction thread here, but there's no rule that I know of requesting that.

I have little no skill with repairing much of anything, much less ~20 year-old electronics hardware, so I can't really help you out with that other than to point you to the TG/PCE Repair/Mod Discussion Board where the repair guys like Keith Courage hang out.

So, what TG-16/PC Engine games do you already have, and which are your favorites?

Thanks for the reply!  Moderators, feel free to move this thread to the TG/PCE Repair/Mod Discussion Board where it will get more attention (and be in the right section).

After years of collecting, starting with a dead Turbo Express that was fixed thanks to this very forum, I have 54 HuCards/Turbochips.  My first Turbo Duo was a much more recent purchase, but I enjoy Ys, Riot Zone, the 4-in-1 CD, and Monster Lair on it.  My favorite card games are R-Type, Ninja Spirit, Bonk I & II, Raiden, the Crush series...I could go on for a long time.

My most recent card game was Vigilante...it is getting very hard to find any game that is under $15 now!  My new strategy may be to just keep that cap and see what I can add.  None of my game are rare, and I am happy with a case, card, sleeve, and manual.  A box for any game I get is a rarity (but appreciated!).

Welcome!  Keeping a $15 cap is a great way to start!  I bet you've already got a ton of great games to play and all the other expensive ones are just frosting. :)  This console has a lot to offer when it comes to cheap games. Bonk, Crush, Military Madness, Legendary Axe, the list could go on. IMO, only a few of the higher priced games are actually worth owning.  If you're a gamer. :)
