Bah, patent BS is for the birds.  I'm all for protecting complete, specific inventions but too often the patents are for vague ideas and held by companies that have no intention of developing or using such products.

100% agree, these patent wars are sickening.

By the way, I don't know anything about this particular case; there may be merit to their claim, but so often it's just a douche trying for a payday, so my knee jerk reaction is to say fuck 'em all.  Plus, it's Philips suing, and anything they know about gaming (CD-i) is not something that anyone should ever have to pay for or even want to steal in the first place.

Nintendo will appeal (most likely) and then win (less likely, but still likely). Time for a show down so we can end patent trolls once and for all.

Philips/Magnavox lost me when they opted not to release the Odyssey 3 console..

Philips came up with something for gaming that somebody else wanted ? I dunno... Like someone in the article said, Nintendo's desire for motion control technology goes way back to this ole thing:

Not to get in Nintendo's tank in this case, but I guess I would lean on this being bullshit. Still, for a court to have made a judgement in Philips' favor if the merits were totally bogus, it's curious. Judges and courts don't deserve auto-respect that they're afforded of course, they can be corrupt as any other political body of government, so I would really have to look at the case to tell for sure.

There was this link by someone in there too, Nintendo having specifically invested in another company that specialized in motion control tech in 2001:

KC's Crazy Chase is one of my favorite games of all-time.  Since you said this, I now agree that Nintendo didn't do anything wrong.

Technically, Sega owns 3D camera angles and is entitled to a cut of every 3D game ever made.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Heh, I see your point. ;)

I'd much rather somebody with no intention of ever enforcing a stupid patent owns it than patent trolls.
