I use this with my CD-ROM2, I just set it to the same as the original PSU (which I also have) and it works a treat.

Warning! Do NOT hook up a 12V adapter to a 9V PCE! It WILL destroy your system!

You can use a MD2 adapter for it. It'll work.

I live in the UK and use multi voltage adapters or other console adapters to power imported stuff like the PCE. It will work fine.

No it wont, unless the polarity is wrong (which is probably what happened). The PCE like 99% of other things that run off of 5v internally, uses the ultra commoon ~7805 type linear voltage regulator. They will take anywhere from 7.5 up to 30v input. The more voltage you input, the bigger heatsink is required (as the excess wattage is transformed into heat). With the size of the heatsink in a PC Engine, you would probably be safe running up to 13-14v input. 12v is no problem. I run mine off of 12v, and the heat increase over 9v is hardly measurable.

Also, most LM7805 clones are thermal protected, so if they do overheat it will shut down. Worst thing you can do is fry the regulator. In which case its a $0.25 part.

Hi, wondering about the PSU for the Super CD Rom2, this thread recommends 1200mA 12V, but the link was for a 1000mA unregulated PSU, would the following be more suitable, or the same deal?  Many thanks, sorry a bit of a daft question.

Oh by the way do any of you know what the I/O port underneath this unit does: was it ever used? Chanced on it last night!
Systems: PCE white, Core Grafx, CD Rom2 / IFU30, GT, LT, Super CD Rom2. Games: Almost all the shooters and about 50 others and growing! Also into Sega Saturn and Dreamcast shooters.

The I/O port was never officially supported by NEC, but Hudson did release (via mail order) a special peripheral (called a PC Merkin) that connected to the I/O port.

Now, I've never used the PC Merkin myself, but folks who have have described the results as "electrifying".

The I/O port on the bottom of the SCD-Rom unit is actually called the "WTF Port."
