If I started making things like this, any chance anyone here would be interested in them? I've found locally at the flea market I sold out of Sonic and Mario equivalents in minutes. I'd be able to take requests within reason on the design if need be.

Haven't made an obey ones yet. I figured it was a niche enough market that either folks on here are going to want them or I am not going to make any (for sale, that is).

My forte is US Turbochips so that is where most of my natural inclination to create would be from. Again, if you wanted anything made from something else (Super CD/PCE) I'd be open to suggestions. In fact I'd probably come up with a couple of images from it and then make the one you'd want. The bigger and more elaborate would be more expensive on resources (not a lot) and on my time (a lot!).

I'm also thinking about bundling them. maybe like all the recognizable characters from the system or all the recognizable characters from one specific game. I'm completely just throwing it out there to see if there is a demand big enough to justify really delving into this hardcore.

I'd be interested in a bundle of magnets.  My fridge is sort of barren right now, so this could be just the thing to liven it up   Naturally as Nulltard says, hopefully they're not priced unrealistically.

Turbo related magnets would be awesome. The bonk you have pictured looks pretty cool. What is that style called? With the little beads.

$5 for small ones and $10 for big ones was exactly what I was thinking actually. Time isn't a big issue I watch a lot of movies and thought that would be perfect multitasking.

I was thinking in the neighborhood of 8-10, but I think, as far as, bonk goes, I'm going to make some fruit/veggies/yellow smileys and king drool all as a bundle so you can make a scene on your fridge. Not sure how big drool will have to be. That may affect how much I'll charge but think bonk, four fruit, four veggies, a smiley or two, and drool for 25-30 depending on how long it takes to make all that. Btw the prices are all subject to criticism. If you think it's high, say so. If you think it's fair, say so.

That Bonk is amazing!

I've made a handful of obey-shmup-ships in the recent past and came to the conclusion that there was no way I could market them.  They just took up too much time and too many individual colors to be worthwhile.  I still love making them and handing them out when I meet up at the Turbofests but I couldn't imagine trying to sell them for a "reasonable" price.

If you want the forum community to share your bliss in these epic items, maybe have a raffle or two?  Or maybe I'm wrong and people will pay more than I'd expect to make these things.  Sorry, I'm just rambling now...  I hope your magnets take off!

Maybe you're right, roflmao. I don't really want to take advantage of folks on here. Just want a fair amount for the time and resources I put in while making something we all here can really cherish. I mean I can't make a living doing this. I'll reaccess pricing when I am actually ready to sell them. Hell maybe I can work trades with this stuff. I'm open to any ideas on it.

The fruit is proving to be a challenge. I'm glad they are looking good. Not many pictures online of the minor stuff in bonk to make these from. I'm trying to make them from screen captures. The bonk was made from just a picture of the sprite and was very easy to see where it ended. With a screen capture I have to judge where the backround ends and the sprite begins after blowing it up to full screen size. lol

Constructive Criticism:  If the goal is to make scenes, include some flowers and a tree.

Criticism for Criticism's Sake:  Don't forget the moon, some ground tiles (or a backround magneto sheet with sky and ground to build on?), and a few bad guys, and the DoxPhile logo.

Glad you both like them! Got an apple made. I'll get a pic of that up when I have something else finished with it. I've got prep work for King Drool (I think he may be too big to market, but I want one. he he), a watermelon, grapes (need another color of bead to make it though :/), a 1up, both blue and red heart containers, and 3 colors of floret sprung (orange, pink, and yellow). Thinking I'll make the yellow floret sprung fully extended so it isn't just another flower with a different color.

Added a bunch more tonight. Plans for the mini game mini flower, 2 more flowers (orange and pink. I need a gray color for the feet that I don't have. ), Princess Za, large meat, large heart (need more red first), King drool (going to be huge if I actually get around to him and I may not), the moon (*see king drool), Maybe a fully meated up bonk with fire tongue, and one more small red heart to interchange out with the life meter so I can have the blue empty heart expansion power up or swap it and have the loose red health heart. Thoughts?

I'm glad they are turning out well. A lot of the pictures I am going off of to make these are not so clear of where one color ends and another begins. You can tell the ones I've had to do some guess work on because they have an excess of colors, the watermelon, grapes, small meat was a pain, big meat will be a nighmare. To see what I mean. Search "bonk's revenge meat" on google images and pull up any photo of the small meat you can find. Enlargen it to about half the size of your screen to see what I mean. I figure every four of those little blocks corresponds to a single physical bead.
Other photos are much easier to make. Search floret sprung and the lines in one of those photos is well defined and easy to follow.

As has been mentioned, you can load up the game in an emulator and turn off the background layers then take a screenshot of whatever you need. I've used ootaku for this in the past with good results. And the image can be 4x with nice sharp pixels.

It's been a little while since I was making obey peeler doodads, but I would grab a screenshot and then convert it to a custom palette I made in Photoshop of my peeler beads. Print it out and go to town! It was girly time intensive which is probably why I haven't done it lately...

I have a best friend in Boston (I'm in San Francisco) and whenever we meet up, we have to watch that movie. Did you know that when it was made it had the most special effects out of any movie ever made? Think about that. It came after Star Wars episode 1 and titanic...and I'd argue it has far more redeeming quality than the other two combined.

Take my word for it, if you liked Kung Pow as much as I did, take a look into FDR American Badass. It's every bit as funny.

I don't really understand what your objection is, Tommy Vercetti. I mean I haven't priced these things out yet. The prices discussed in this thread were originally delivered by other members as to what they were willing to pay for them. I mean there is only a market for something as long as individuals are willing to pay for a good or service. Would you prefer I spend 6 hours making these things for someone and not be compensated for them in some way? I mean, what is your time worth to you? I'll justify it this way. If you want to make these and give them away for everyone, I'll send you pictures of my designs to eliminate a lot of the guess work. See the reason I can eventually ask for some kind of compensation is that there is interest in having them by others, and because they are the kind of item that is time intensive to make -the kind of time that not many actually want to put in to make them.

I get that everyone is raw about the market of the actual games going up and up and up. I get that that makes us all sensitive, but I've not actually placed a price on them yet and in fact I've repeatedly asked what would be fair to ask for them. I'm not that doucher that's been posting in this forum asking far too much for his turbo stick because he's a jackass gouger. When I do actually price these out, I am going to make a serious effort to make them fair and reasonable. I'll ask you to hold your un-constructive criticism until that point as I really don't see your argument having enough evidence to hold water right now.

All my current plans for bonk related stuff have been temporarily put on hold as I need more materials. Thought I'd make this as I had a lot of white. I don't really want to jump into another game until I finish all the Bonk templates I want. Anyone have any ideas for non-game related but still obey-related ideas? I'm thinking maybe a pair of controllers (TG16 and PCE). I don't think I can do an actual turbo system as it will just be a black blob. A white PC engine might be do-able. Also the NEC or TG16 or Hudsonsoft logos might be do-able.

Bomberman has some shades of blue I don't have. I don't have enough trays to make anything from Legendary Axe II either.


Got a fully powered up bonk done though. Maybe I'll do a half powered up one as well...

I've made 16 different ones so far and aside from the "obey" one, they were all bonk's revenge. I need to make big meat, 2 more flowers (pink and orange), another heart container (fully red), a large red heart, princess za, and possibly the moon and king drool. (Even if I create a king drool and the moon, I already know that they would be too big to try and sell cause they are going to take forever to make and be huge. I'm probably not going to want to make copies of them.). That should complete my set of Bonk's revenge. So 20-25 total pieces in that set. Not sure on prices yet. I can say that certain ones will be very cheap (like $1-$2 each). The hearts and the "obey" one, for instance, are very easy to make and not very taxing on my time. Basically the more colors I have to use on any individual one or the larger it is = more time needed to make it. The bonks and the extended yellow flower have been the most time taxing at about an hour each, and that should be less on future runs as I have the original to work from instead of a grainy picture on my computer. I was also thinking a bulk discount if you want the whole set or a whole subset (think all the pieces of fruit or a full set of life hearts). Not sure how much any of it is yet. I want to finish the set and then make copies to then start assessing prices based on how long it takes me to produce duplicates.

I do have about 6 or 7 extra loose games (tv sports football, side arms, keith courage, and takin it to the hoop) that I have been wanted to create a competition to use them as prizes. Thinking I may add in some of these fridge magnets as prizes as well. lol Problem is: coming up with a suitable competition within the confines of these forums that will get the interest I'd like in it. I think I'll come up with that competition first before I start selling the magnets, and I'm open to suggestions on that.
