Hey all!  I'm currently fixing up a bunch of unloved PC Engine CD systems to give them new life.  I recapped the CD drive and it's working flawlessly with a different IFU and with audio cds.  The IFU-30A that came with it is giving me problems.  It works fine for Hu-Card games and shows a picture just fine, but after a CD game starts loading all I get is a black screen.  I tried cleaning the connectors and there was no improvement.  Any common problems with these that would cause it?  I would suspect the caps, but most of them are Elna brands and I have not heard of people recapping the IFU.  Any suggestions where to start or is there a list of caps for it?  Thanks!

Needs more OBEY, but I'm working on it.

IFU rarely fails
caps can leak
the ram board comes loose
i had bad ram in a TG-CD base so its possible, but rare
best bet is inspect the board and make sure your using a big enough supply (1.5A spec)

Have you tried to format it? There's a capacitor for saving data (C101). It can be replaced with a MAL219612473E3.
