@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

I don't know, it's always been one of the games that grabbed my attention for the system. I know, falling Hell, slippery slopes, slippery control...heard it all. The terrible music, which I actually LOVE. I have heard people compare this to E.T. for the 2600 and it makes me wonder what the Hell they are smoking? I hear complaints about the graphics, which I also happen to like...why all the hate for this game? It's really not all that bad. I seem to see more people give Darkwing Duck more praise than Ghost manor, and at that point, you are a sadist, my Friend.

CrackTiger

It is a 16-bit Wizards & Warriors-style game. If it had officially used that license and appeared on SNES, it would be considered a classic and would sell loose for $300 on eBay, with a slew of hard to spot repros in the mix.

Awesome! LOL. However, funny you should point this out. I actually am not really a big fan of Wizards and Warriors though I like ghost manor...go figure? Perhaps it is the content? Theme?

Ugh, I seriously hate this game, but love DW Duck. I think its just the poor play controls, mixed with the poorly designed levels that make this an atrocity. DW Duck is enjoyably bad. Ghost Manor is just bad, with zero redeeming qualities.

I don't know, really. I used to own Darkwing Duck and used to feel the same way as you, but from playing it when I was a kid. point being, when I replayed it as an adult, I realized what a Nightmare of a game it was. My memory was clouded by that, Hey, you are going to enjoy it because it's a new game and you don't get new games often mind set. Needless to say, to each their own, but I don't think I would say that Darkwing Duck is so bad it's good...half of that statement is true...LOL

I still have yet to try it, though I do recall seeing it demoed at Toys R Us back in the early 90s.

Q: Why?

A: Folks lack skills.

I like Ghost Manners* I try to play it at least every Halloweenish after accidentally obtaining it along with Splatterhouse and such.

Issue #1: Folks complain about the open level design (these are the same people who have difficulty navigating from their own bed-to-toilet).

Issue #2: Folks complain of their "brain hurting" because of #1

Issue #3: No Disney license, so no reason to play it.

Issue #4: No pedophile porn, so no reason to play it.

...

Issue #11: RARE didn't make this, so no reason to play it.

Issue #12: No video game + comic book cross-promotion, so no reason to know game exists.

Issue#13: Comic is more awesome than video game.

First Deep Blue, now Ghost Manor - what's the next piece of mediocre trash that will be "rediscovered" as a "gem"? Auto-Crusher Palladium? Power Gate? Fighting Run? Slime World? The possibilities are endless!

reno5

It was one of my few games I got brand new back in the days ! I finished it few times and thought it was ok.

Tried it again few months back and damn... i really changed my mind on that game since I have other ones to play !

I'll still have to play it all the way to the end some time. Just not soon LOL

Nazi NecroPhile

I don't think it's horrible (I actually like how it looks), but it's definitely not a very good game.

Nothing wrong with Slime World either...angry much? And, how is this "Rediscovered" if I have been a fan of the game since it first released? Also, I never said it was a "Gem" either. Over exaggerating much too? Sheesh. You'd think I just spit in your socks or something. Don't be so melodramatic.

I got that, Mister "I'mma gonna make some more Turbo Doodles, someday, hopefully, maybe." I just grabbed my favorite issue to quote you. Is that okay or did you want me to quote the whole thing? Mew mew mew.

Yay! So fun...it must be nice to know that your taste in games is absolute and everyone else is wrong? I guess, what else is new? I am known for liking what are universally known  as bad games. Whatever.

I don't hate this game. It's just not good, that's all. I love how it looks, I love the theme, and after seeing the Turbo promo VHS back in the day, I had super high hopes for it. But then I bought it and discovered it was an annoying version of Chutes n' Ladders.

The character's giant dome bothers me. Like maybe all the control issues were intended because he has a serious learning disability...?

The art style seems to echo Ghostbusters on Genesis—at least, that was my initial reaction when I first saw Ghost Manor.

I don't mind a little irreverent joking, so I would expand your theory by suggesting that our protagonist suffers, tragically, from hydrocephalus.

Did Paranoia_Dragon ever provide a name of the designer/designer's kid in an old post? I think he did.

Anyway, I think it is awesome when character design is inspired my a real non-celebrity person.

It's one of the dev team members, just like how Hudson put Takahashi Meijin in Adventure Island.

I always thought this game looked and sounded like ass, but don't take my word for it!

Also RE: Slime World - I can't say the gameplay blows me away, but I love the added cinemas and CD music in the PC Engine version of Slime World.  I've played the Lynx version a little bit and I can't say I wanna play it all day long, but I would buy the PCE version for cheap if it presented itself.

I thought it always was a cheap PCE game?

The music alone was worth purchase. :)

Oh, I didn't mean to imply it was expensive, just that it's low ranking on my want list.  Still, I would have some interest in it one day.

I can't take that character sprite.  The game feels like a PC shareware game from the era...

Go play Ghostbusters on Genesos, dammit!

You'll get used to it.
