After having one for a few months, I'm kind of "meh" on it now.

As a portable TurboDuo w Arcade Card, it's really slick.  I think if anything, it's almost worth it for that (though I wish the controller wasn't so sloppy).

But my son played it until the battery completely drained and it messed something up.  I was able to get it up and running again, but I find it hangs fairly often now and some elements just don't work like they used to.  I have a feeling if I just re-flashed it again, it'd probably fix all of my issues, but I've been waiting for NCCE 2.0 to be released (which could be anytime now).

I still use it daily, and it's tons of fun to tinker with, but it's not terribly stable and I wouldn't rely on it as a primary computing device.  Looks like NCCE 2.0 will be a nice step up. http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/jxd-s7300-fixes-firmware-roms-thread/

The 7300 has become famous for its hardware faults. Alot of them die slowly. the biggest problem seems to revolve around its cpu. It was poorly cooled and often overheats eventually killing other stuff in the tablet. All chinese android gaming devices like this have some kinda issue, but its usually software related. Hardware wise they are generally solid. The 7300 was rushed. Now almost everyone is making them and they have improved alot in such a short time. I currently own an Iben L1 that does not seem to suffer from any of the initial problems the 7300 did.

I jumped on board with this machine recently.  I attempted to do the custom firmware update NCCE and I believe mine is now black screened (or bricked). I went through the upgrade process and everything looked great, then it asked to reboot and now it's been a black screen for hours. :( There are WAAY too many possible fixes for this and I've tried a couple...  Dang....

So far tried the USB firmware update, however the device simply won't appear in my 'devices' within computer management.

Then I tried (still am?) the TF card creation using the SDcardMaker.exe method... (really kind of lost with this process)

Step
1. Making a specific
TF card (Demo:
specific
TF card启动卡制作工具.avi)
Through
the SDcardMaker
to realize
it. (S7300-u-boot.bin
is necessary)
Run
SDcardMaker.exe (Demo: specific
TF card启动卡制作工具.avi)

Step
2. Forced
cleaning the Flash
1.
Copy file "aml_autoscript"
into your TF card
2.
Press "Vol +", then press "Power" at the same time.
It
will take a
few seconds
(It should be stayed at JXD logo picture, also
possible to
appear black
screen)

3.
If there comes out some words on the screen, it shows cleaning is
successfully.

Mine is in pieces right now because the charging plug just broke off inside the unit and I'm attempting to repair it, but have you tried powering it on while holding the vol + and power buttons to get to the upgrade menu?  If you get that menu, I think there's an option to reset to the original firmware.  Then at least you should be able to start over.

Sorry to hear this isn't working out for you.  Maybe they changed something so the custom firmware no longer works?  I hope not, unless the firmware they shipped with is better that what I got.  I know there has been at least one official upgrade since I got mine, but didn't want to reflash mine to test because I already had mine set up the way I liked it.

EDIT: Did you get the firmware from this thread? http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/jxd-s7300-fixes-firmware-roms-thread/
That's the "official" thread and any other links could be suspect.  That's where I got mine from.  I know there's talk there about a way to trick the firmware into using an SD card as it's boot drive, but it seemed kind of complicated, so I didn't bother trying it out.

EDIT 2: If you still have problems, try posting there.  I know that the guy who created the firmware still checks in there and can probably help you out.  He's been "almost ready" to release version 2.0 for about 6 months now but hasn't due to bugfixes and life getting in the way, but he still seems fairly active there.

JoshTurboTrollX

:) yep, that's where I pulled it from.  There seems to be a few issues similar to this one with the black screen.  There are even three different levels of 'bricking' that has been defined (and solved?)  I'm somewhere in the middle I think.

I'll keep checking around and post on that thread.  Thanks man!

This may seem obvious, but have you tried resetting it? There is a pinhole to poke on one side.

Freezing/crashing is the only problem I've ever had with mine. It doesn't happen often and resetting always fixes it.

Thanks man, nothing is too obvious.  But yeah, I tried the reset hole... Still got nothing.

Apparently after all the troubleshooting done thus far I discovered it was 'deep bricked'.  There is a fix described in this very thread:

http://jxd7300.com/thread/161/reviving-s7300b-deep-brick-state?page=1&scrollTo=866

However, I managed to get a hold of their customer service and I'm just exchanging it.  Hopefully a better result next turn around.  :)

CrackTiger

I'm in the middle of another vacation with my JXD and once again played through a PCE RPG and have started a couple other games.

This thing is priceless, without being so valuable that I'm afraid of losing it. :)

I demand an update. It's ok if you were sick of it and have let it at the bottom of your clothes hamper.

What other games?

Just curious. :)

I finished Dragon Knight III and got lot of nice screen shots. Some of the best graphics of the 16-bit generation.

I started playing Private Eyedoll, Gulliver Boy and Tenshi no Uta. I don't think I'm going to continue with Gulliver Boy, as it's not as comfortable to play on the JXD.

As I've mentioned in the past, Private Eyedoll is probably the peak of 16-bit visuals. I've only ever played it in ACD mode, but it's still hard to believe that a game of this quality got made for a 16-bit console. I'm guessing that each level of a location loads independently and at each  major incident when playing in SCD mode.

Damn. :)

I never made it too far into Gulliver or DKIII.

I don't think I have Private Eyedoll, but I am intrigued now.
