12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Button timing in Fighting Street

I've owned Fighting Street as long as my Duo (about 6-7 years) and I've probably played around iwth it for a total of 3 hours.

Street Fighter 1 was totally my favorite Arcade game as a kid, and I had always wanted to play the TurboGrafx CD version, so I bought a Duo.

I also own a dedicated arcade machine, converted to a 6 button setup.

The PCE port of Street Fighter (Fighting Street) attempts to emulate the 2 button version, in which the strength of the player's attack is determined by how hard the player hits the button. http://www.klov.com/images/11/118124217352.jpg

I haven't played a 2 button arcade version in 20 years, but from what I remember the buttons responded nearly instantaneously. The PCE buttons, though, are delayed a bit.

The key to doing the special moves flawlessly in Fighting Street on PCE is mastering the amount of time between the time the button is pressed and the on-screen attack is initiated. The player must finish the controller motion just before the attack is initiated, but because of the delay between pressing the button and on-screen response, this is very tricky.

For anyone who would really like to play Street Fighter 1 at home with consistent, arcade-perfect controls, I recommend the ps2 port found on "Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2"

The Capcom Classics port of Street Fighter 1 attempts to emulate the 6-button version. The 6-button version works quite differently. In the 6 button version, attacks are initiated on-screen when the player RELEASES the button, not when the player presses the button. Once this nuance is mastered, special moves are easy and consistent.

For anyone interested, you can also perform special moves by releasing the button in street fighter 2, including on the PCE version, I believe, though non-special attacks do not trigger by releasing the button, only specials.

I just thought I would share this with everyone because Fighting Street has unanimously been thrown to the scrap heap, it seems. Not that I'm saying it shouldn't be, because the controls do seem poorly emulated...

I thought it might be interesting if I shed some light as to why the controls are the way they are in Fighting Street.

I heard that MANY times about the controls for SF1. I still think you have to rely on luck to pull of the fireball, dragon punch, and hurricane kick. It happens randomly.

I disagree... the controls in Fighting Street are poorly emulated, but they do seem consistent.

The contols on my 6 button arcade version and the ps2 Capcom Classics Collection vol 2 are extremely consistent, but different from Street Fighter 2 in that the Street Fighter 1 buttons respond only when released and not when pressed.

Man, I also love this game also, and Spend a lot of money when I was a kid on this arcade game..  Basically you can beat the game if you keep doing " Dragon Punch".   I played so well in the arcades, but when I finally picked up Duo 2 years ago, I find that this Street fighter on PCE is HELL, I can't even get pass the first few guys.  Something must be wrong on the programing in this game.  anyway, great game to have.. it is hard to find.
Btw,, does anyone know what it's Called  "Fighting street" and not "street fighter" ??  ](*,)

I've always wondered about that. It must be the only arcade port on the system that had a name change from the original. There must be a reason. Surely marketing is not the answer-- unless they were trying to sell fewer copies.

Maybe Hudson Soft and Capcom wanted to avoid a possible lawsuit. There are a series of Japanese action movies called Street Fighter with Sonny Chiba.

That's possible, but none of the PC versions released in the USA had their names changed (PC, Amiga, Commodore 64, etc)

It may have had something to do with the Original movies being available on VCD format in Asia.... I have never heard the reason why the name was changed...

Lots of kids have red or blonde hair when younger thats turns brown by the time their an adult.

Capcom addressed the change with the Alpha/Zero series where Ryu has red-turning-brown hair.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Doesn't explain what happened to Ryu's matching red shoes from Street Fighter 1/ Fighting Street.....  :-k

Curious. Why does this thread have a "thumbs down" icon next to it in the forum menu?  :-k

Because I think the button timing in Fighting Street sucks. It shouldn't delay the way that it does.... but they were trying to do the impossible when they ported the game.

I believe it's possible to master the timing in Fighting Street but in the 6/7 years I've owned it, I've never done it. (maybe because my copy doesn't work very well  )

Just as an example, if you hold down either button, you'll eventually do a fierce punch / roundhouse kick. This isn't the way the 2 button or 6 button setup works on an arcade machine. However, the timing does seem consistent which is why I believe it can be mastered....

But it's far from arcade perfect, hence the thumbs down.

My hair was bleach blonde, then turned reddish blonde when I got older. My German and Scottish genes are in a constant battle for supremacy. Damned barbaric genes.  :P
