Here's a label I made a while ago for the English patched Ys IV.

Its a full color remake of the original-

IMG

Just drop it into a label making program and it'll print perfectly.

Feel free to run them off for friends and family, but I'd appreciate it if noone posts it elsewhere online without permission.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

That's pretty cool, but know what has always pissed me off about the Dawn of Ys CD? The fact that it has a god damn APOSTROPHE in it! This is coming from the creators too, I am so ashamed in them! That's one of the biggest ways to piss off an Ys fan like myself, along with not pronouncing the title correctly and making fun of the "bump attack" combat :P .
Quote from: TurboXray on 01/02/2014, 09:21 PMAdding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I don't mind japanese "engrish", even if it isn't consistant. Its part of the mystique of import games.

I also don't expect non-Ys(yeyes, why?s) fans to pronounce it correctly, but bump attack gameplay is just as complex as many platformers.

Its like saying that all you do is mindless run straight through a Sonic game.

How about all the Varis/Valis Rogress/Rogless army bolgna in Valis II TGCD?

Its still better than the dialogue in Valis III.

Yes, I never expect it either but it's funny yet a little annoying when people mispronounce it :D . Bump attack system rules, especially for leveling up.

Ys or Y's, it really doesn't bother me -- but as Keranu pointed out, it is odd that this is coming from the folks who should know better.

You did an excellent job on that label, by the way! Very nice!

I rate it a 4 out of 5

Still the real shame that TTI never release it here :(

In the end it took a fan translation for fans to enjoy it....

That looks hot! When I first heard the name Y's, I used to take the pronunciation literally (wise).

Kaminari

Pronounce it "east" -- without the T ;)

A little historical background about the Breton city of Ker-Is... All hail Wikipedia!

Me too and I was a little surprised when I figured out it was "ii-sss" when playing the game :D .

You learn something every day, I tell ya. I would never have heard about the folklore surrounding Ker-Is (and its possible connection to Par-is !!!) if it weren't for Ys, the video game.

Let's expand (I'd make a new thread, but this might be a short list):
Exile: Templar Knights, Bacchus and Bacchannalian feasts (they spelled it "Bakas" in the game, but we know what they were getting at)

I'm curious about other games that are rooted, however loosely, in folklore/history. For example, there is a HuCard game based on Chinese folklore (it was discussed here a long time ago, but I can't find it the thread) that had a "trickster monkey" in it... it was a platformer. Anyone know the title?

Legend of Xanadu 1 & 2 are loosely related to Babylonian mythology. (Interestingly, Legend of Xanadu is Dragon Slayer 8 -- and one of the sub-episodes of Dragon Slayer 5 is called Sorcerian Gilgamesh.)

Aside Ys, the best examples of Japanese reinterpretations of Western traditions are probably Tenshi no Uta 1 & 2 (Angel's Song) which are, here again, deeply rooted in Celtic folklore.

I've been aware of Ys' history with French tales and always see this book online and someone else I talk to online is reading it. I might have to get it someday for both reading and a "bonus" Ys item :D .

Random statement about Son Son, a couple of people I knew think that the cartoon "Monkey Magic" is based off the Son Son game.

PC Gaijin

Nice work, but I suspect we'll be seeing "Ultra RARE! English Ys IV!!" on eBay before long :?

And the gameplay is based on Black Tiger/Black Dragon the arcade game. :D

The whole 'monkey' thing is a long standing Chinese legend.

It's an interesting read, especially comparing it to the live action TV series http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002PC2RC/qid=1127342488/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/202-5767662-0467824

One of those Monkey games on the PSX was actually really good, it was a side scrolling platformer with 3D backgrounds and a pretty good sense of humor.  I can never remember which one it is though, Monkey Magic or Monkey Hero.

ParanoiaDragon

You're thinking of Monkey Magic, which I have yet to find a copy of.  I'll be honest, I like Monkey Hero, it's considered a terrible game, but, even with all it's quirks, I enjoy it.  The ol' Monkey King legend or whatever, has resulted in quite a few games over the years, atleast starting with the Famicom on up.  Not to mention that Dragon Ball(including Z & GT) are loosely based on it.  Think about it, Goky uses a rod for fighting, he rides Nimbus, plus there's Oolong.  I believe the turtle & Master Roshi are taken from that legend as well.  There's some live action movie, that in the US is called Dragon Ball, but actually isn't connected to the anime.

The live-action Monkey show was often on TV (UHF, baby!) during the early 90's, that's when my brothers and I watched it. It was subtitled in English. Totally entertaining.

Now I love watching the Korean soap operas that they play here (southern cal). THEY ACTUALLY HAVE ENDINGS, granted it takes a long time (a few months).  Some of them are quite good -- relying on honest drama to propel the storylines... like a more subdued version of Eastenders (British soap opera).

And thanks to the folks who answered my question (about Son Son !! ).  Much appreciated (it was driving me crazy).

Dang, I want that, & the sequal, but it sound like they're only subtitled & I'm one of those guys that can't stand subtitles, I crave dubbing.
