Ahh, I'm so glad it finally got here safely... CrackTiger, you are PURE GREATNESS .

From opening the package earlier this afternoon (which for the most part contained the essentials, with an NES RFU adapter just like he said, which I was surprised was even able to fit in the system), I checked it out for its condition, cleaned up the system a bit and returned the equipment back into its box. At the time, I didn't think he included any games with the system and were sending them in a separate package :P.

In case you're wondering, Turbo D, Necromancer, and anyone else, yes, the "Turbo" part of the logo is an orange in normal to bright lighting conditions, but it can appear red in darker ones. Sometimes, even, the "Grafx" segment looks like a spring green, yet the "16" circle remains practically the same. Fascinating :-k. It is as if the logo was meant to change colors for the letters in changing light.

I did later find two games in the mess of bags, bubble wrap, and Styrofoam that were thrown in the trash (I BLAME MY FATHER FOR THAT, FOR IF HE HADN'T GOTTEN IN THE WAY, I WOULD'VE LOOKED MORE CAREFULLY FOR THINGS AND KEPT SOME OF THE SUPPORTERS FOR PROTECTION :x), which were Takin' It to the Hoop (alright, I'm not a big fan of sports games, but I'm hoping it's an enjoyable one much like Tennis for the Atari 2600 and Wii Sports) and Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (Yay; I've been wanting to play this game first for the TurboGrafx-16, anyway, since this came with the original system in the US). I'm not really sure if he is bringing any more, since he did say he would send me any games that he had spare copies of (which, surely, is a ton, but no more than about 10 or 15 for me :P).

I'll be trying out tomorrow, at latest, definitely. I want to fully complete Super Mario Galaxy first before doing so, which I am nearing completion on that game.

The other game that I was going to send is JJ & Jeff, which you'd probably appreciate since you're not quick to condemn games. Unfortunately I couldn't find my spare copy and can't part with my original which I bought knew around 1990.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

That's awesome, congratulations! CrackTiger also sent my little brother a Vectrex for his birthday (thanks again!)! If I come across any spare American HuCards I have, I'll try to donate them as well.

You're quite right about that. I explore the game carefully before giving any sort of judgement to it, and look for positive traits about them (those goes for other things such as people and other devices, as well). I think I would have a liking for J.J. and Jeff since it is a 2-D platformer, which that and 3-D ones are some of my favorite types of games, and seems to be an humorously interesting game. I think the crude humor might throw me off a bit, though, depending on how it's used.

I'll always refer to them as "TurboChips", but what I find interesting is that it states "HuCard" in the corner even though it is an American-distributed game :-k. It's as if the word was forgotten to be changed when the cards/chips themselves were made. You'll have to promise me one thing if you do find any, though: Make sure to keep my home address private. I don't any suspicious or untrusted individuals to have knowledge of exactly where I live. That would be very much appreciated.

That's great. I just got back into the Turbo a little over a month ago and I've already got 26 games. I'm having a blast, as I'm sure you will. The only problem is, with so many great games out for it, I have trouble deciding what to get next. :)

Thanks a lot to all of you who've replied. I did have a chance to test out the TurboGrafx-16 today for a couple of hours. In which, I am happy to report that the system itself and its equipment work just fine (although I didn't think it would be set for channel 4 when I first had turned it on; it may have been set this way since it is the broadcast channel for SuperPCEngineGrafx's area). I was also surprised how short the controller wire was for it . I've never had a console so close to me while as I play it.

The game played was Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. Personally, I had mixed feelings for it, as sometimes I've felt that it was a good game and sometimes I felt that it was saddening experience :?. It was quite a macho experience to just jump into the game (no story or introduction, just straight into the gameplay). I didn't find the controls to be all to bad, as they are claimed to be, but I have noticed the trick that in jumping in midair, in a sudden turn, his fall would end up being neutral instead of the reverse direction like most games usually (it could be useful for stopping in the middle of a jump, but may also pose to be dangerous). There have been plenty of times where I felt there were too many enemies, and I find the Gunhead enemies having some kind of faces with shades on to be the most displeasing :|. At the best least, This game does allow for multiple hits before a heart is lost (very unique, indeed :)) and the player is given unlimited continues with the equipment still possessed (in spite of it having to start at the beginning of the part of the stage for each game over regardless of how far the player has gotten in it). I was very inclined to beat it, and had made it to the 5th stage of the game when I stopped playing. The experience made me sleepy, but I'm willing to attempt to play it again.

I do have a bunch of games in my top priority that I want for my system. If I think of any more I can add them later.

They include:

Air Zonk
Bomberman '93
Magical Chase
Dragon Spirit
Galaga '90
Devil's Crush
Blazing Lazers
Super Star Soldier
Bomberman
Soldier Blade
Aero Blasters
Dragon's Curse
Psychosis
J.J and Jeff
Space Harrier
Spatterhouse
Pac-Land
Victory Run
Turrican
Sinistron
Timeball
Chase H.Q.
Ordyne
Neutopia
Neutopia II

For each game I get from here, they can be removed. This does not include CD-ROM titles since I do not have a way of playing them besides Virtual Console.

I'm not expecting to get any more games for the TurboGrafx-16 at the moment. With all of the games I bought for the Wii, it'll take me a while to get them out of the way first, too.

I think you were almost done with the game at level 5, I'm guessing there are six levels. Also I'm not sure if you are aware of this since it's kind of suddle, but if you keep killing enemies in the Alpha Zones, a heart will appear every now and not only will it refill your life, but also give you one extra heart container for each level.

battle royale is one of the cruddiest games I've ever played and the graphics are really really bad  :D
another multiplayer turbochip with cruddy graphics but a gazillion times more fun is World Court Tennis- but you really need to play with 4 players.

But seriously- maybe before we suggest to Kirby games that are arguably bad- we should suggest to her games that are positively must-haves.  Don't want to scare her off the system now do we?  Kirby- the winners of that top-ten hucard thing- you can't go wrong with the US titles off of that list.

Now that's my kind of game 8) . Seriously as cheesy as the game looks, it's probably the best wrestling game I've ever played because it's so much simpler. Simply go around hitting people like silly while effectively using your power blow and then once they are down, you pick them up and throw them outta the ring  ! Hilarious game and extremely fun on multiplayer.

It sorta came off that way to me at first, but after figuring out the controls and object of the game, it's a very playable and enjoyable multiplayer game. Other wrestling games are frustrating because they require some weird control methods and annoying tapping schemes, but Battle Royale is very simple to play and each character's abilities add nice depth to the game.

I did have a chance to play Keith Courage in Alpha Zones again today. I've found it to be a pretty good game this time, actually, and the small things about it that had bothered me before no longer do so. I was really impressed on how long the Jewel and Alpha swords with the reaction of "Whoa"; they were long enough to reach an enemy about 1/3 of it, I believe. If that's true, then I've almost made it to the end. I went up to the Robo Zone and had difficulty figuring out how to beat the boss. I was getting the gist of him a bit (jump up to attack him, run off until he's gone from the screen, jump up to avoid his feet, then jump again to avoid the shot from his feet, hopefully be able to duck down from him while he swoops down, and then attack him again; it needs to be done perfectly in order to survive), but I then felt I needed to take a break (my elbow was hurting a bit, too, so it needed rest). I've already figured out these two tricks from playing the game, but the healing process can take sooo long :|.

Xevious is a great game, and the PCE version is pretty good. All the naysayers are goofballs. Granted, you probably have to be a fan of early arcade shoot-em-ups to get excited about it, but still....

I really dig the BOSS MUSIC in Keith Courage. It really evokes a wonderful atmosphere. The boss battles do NOT live up to this epic song, but at least we can enjoy the music, right?

I agree. The boss fights in Keith Courage are a joke. I remember the first time I beat the level 5 bosses, the game didn't proceed to the next level. The music kept playing, I could walk around the boss room but the rainbow never came. We called the TG-16 hint line and I remember they told me my TG-16 had probably overheated or something. I was pissed.

The music in KC is interesting. Both the underworld tunes and the boss tune are some of the system's best PSG music, IMO. On the other hand, the overworld tunes are complete and utter garbage.

I have a habit of lying down on my side with my arm supporting myself as I play, which could have pressured it a bit as I've played Keith Courage in Alpha Zones that time (I'm trying to kick it, however). Besides, any part of the arm can hurt when playing :P.

I actually like both of the village music tracks. I seem to perfer the second one, though it is less distinctive for me, but the first one is pretty enjoyable, too. The only music I fell is a downer, however, is the second battle theme.

I have a habit of lying down on my side with my arm supporting myself as I play, which could have pressured it a bit as I've played Keith Courage in Alpha Zones that time (I'm trying to kick it, however). Besides, any part of the arm can hurt when playing :P.
Ya, sometimes my forearm gets tired/sore when I play with it too long.

QuoteThe music in KC is interesting. Both the underworld tunes and the boss tune are some of the system's best PSG music, IMO. On the other hand, the overworld tunes are complete and utter garbage.
Yeah, the music for KC (underworld/boss music) was actually really quite good. I haven't listened to the music in years and years, but I can still imagine almost crystal clear in my head.  :-"

Agreed, the tunes are pretty good, and the sound effects are decent as well.  The only sound that really bugs me is the annoying squeak of Keith's butter knife attack in the overworld.

The Alpha Zone sfx and music "sound" really impressed me as a Genesis player when I first saw the TG-16 at some kind of trade show.

Quote from: Keranu on 04/09/2008, 03:45 AMHey I'd love to hear what you think of Takin' It To The Hoop as well! I've always enjoyed that one myself. There is one member here that I often like to mention who really loves TV Sports Basketball, but I haven't been able to like that one as he has. He made it sound phenomenal in one of his posts though!
I've been able to beat Keith Courage in Alpha Zones today ! I wouldn't be able to say how many times I've tried beating the last boss, but I could say it was a large effort in around 7 times. The ending had flashing colors (the type that could give seizures) in beautiful variations, and the music for it was also high greatness (I could listen to it over and over again O:)). It turns out that the game was based on the comic that was made for it more than I thought.

I did play Takin' It to the Hoop for a bit after that, too. I really did enjoy it! It's one of the cutest basketball games I've ever seen. It looks a lot like Double Dribble for the NES (but without the voice clips within it). The music in that game is really GOOD . I would love to record a soundtrack for it! The first Exibition game I've played against the TurboGrafx-16, though, had me lost to it by 101 points :? (The Seattle team had 167 points, while Boston ended with 66).

I'm looking forward to playing Takin' It to the Hoop again sometime soon :).

Congratulations on beating Keith Courage! I love the ending for that game too, it's one of those feel good endings. If you ever play through the game again and want to know a fun glitch for the last boss, when jumping down into the boss room, land as close as to the boss as you can. When this happens, the boss will be stuck and can't hurt you.

The computer in Takin' It To the Hoop whoops me pretty bad too, but I still enjoy it. It's nice to hear someone praising it's music because there is a nice quality to it when I think about it.

Though you won't have direct access to PC Engine titles you've been seeing on YouTube, congratulations anyway G&WK! It's better than nothing.

That is a pretty good photo you took considering it was a cell phone

BTW this is "Toneman".

QuoteI really dig the BOSS MUSIC in Keith Courage. It really evokes a wonderful atmosphere. The boss battles do NOT live up to this epic song, but at least we can enjoy the music, right?
Hell yeah I'm addicted to that tune as well!

I used to take that and transpose it to death with Audacity and would sound fresh everytime

haha well kirby if you really enjoyed takin' it to the hoop- then the good news is that there probably isn't a turbografx game you'd find unenjoyable.  The bad news is- you're slightly deranged.

I had fun with Takin' it to the Hoop as a rental back in the day. I think its biggest flaw is simply that its a sports game.

Takin' It To The Hoop is is not a bad game at all, especially compared to loads of other crappy sports games.

just busting balls guys.  I actually had fun with takin' it to the hoop when I first had it as well-
no fun to be had from it lately though lol.
yes this is true there there are much worse sports games for the turbografx-
and contrary to the popular opinion I find TV Sports Basketball to be much worse with the horrendous court end changes.
