Help me! Space Battleship Yamato

I love this game but I am stuck on level 2 fight 3. I have to fight 3 purple ships then a big green thing and move to an x inside of a circle near a planet.  From there I don't know what to do.  There is a time limit and I'm not sure if im supposed to have some fat guy charge my ship- I don't know what that does, or send out my fighter planes or what.  Please help me.  I'm addicted to this game!

I don't know of this game (I think, I might have saw screenshots for it before with that nifty program), is it a shooter? Your post interested me.

Yes, the game is an action simulation with lots of cinemas between battles.  You play on a grid and fire weapons at enemies.  Your weapons must then charge so you have to maneuver the ship to place the enemy in the range of your other guns.  The game plays a bit like Dive Alert for the Neo Geo pocket.

Hasn't anyone else played this or watched the tv series or movies?  I've tried everything but learning Japanese ;)

Oh, I grew up watching the U.S. version (StarBlazers), which is why I started singing the theme song.
