2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Well after wrapping up the first day here, I did manage to get some decently priced Turbo games. But good lord thus thing had 80 some odd vendors this year and even had a Negeo and a Vetrix setup! I thought that was pretty cool until I saw a complete Apple 2e for 2 grand. I about shit my drawers. This thing has gone, mainstream ugh. About the only redeeming factor I saw Ghouls N Ghosts for the Super Grafx for 50 bucks complete in box. I sure hope the after party is worth it.

I bought a handful of turbobs and a couple of books, and that's it.  Everything is just too overpriced.  Maybe it's because I'm just not really actively looking for games anymore, but I just wasn't into the show.  All the arcade games were cool, but it was so crowded and I was carrying my stuff around, so I didn't play anything.  I got in at 9, and left around 11:30.

What Turbo games did you get?

I got Adams Family, World Class Baseball, Silent Debuggers, and Exile. All for 30 bucks. I will be at the after show and try to talk some sense into the idiot who is selling Vasteel for 200 bucks. If Ghouls and ghosts is still there I may pick it up. Most vendors will let you haggle with them so I may try again tomorrow seeing how I got a two day pass.

2000 bucks for an Apple IIe? You mean the computer that every school had 100 of in the 80s?

Yeap. The same. It came with the box and instructions too.

The after parry was pretty cool except the expensive drinks. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a Saturn setup with Saturn Bomberman and a bunch of fellas huddled around on a little 27 inch TV. This is so bizarre, they had a 3do, a dreamcast, sega CD tower of power, and a jaguar but no turbo love at all. Hell at least last year they had a vanilla turbo setup with parasol stars but for some reason not this year. Tetris and Capcom bowling tournaments every where. At least tomorrow there is a bomberman tourney I may attend.

SignOfZeta

A Jag but no Turbo. That's some old bullshit right there.

Well, me and Jibba had a good time over there despite the lack of turbo games. We couldn't find the damn Neogeo they had setup today that kind of sucked. I found out that the guy who had it left super early this morning. We did stop by bald guy video games he had some decent prices on some Genesis games and the fact he took plastic was a blessing in disguise. I didn't find the guy who was trying to sell Cotton for 500 bucks but there was a vendor who wouldn't budge at all on a boxed New Adventure Island. The guy wanted 100 bucks firm on it. No trades or nothing. It was still there when I left at 5:00 when the convention closed. Even sadder someone bought that 2000 dollar apple 2e. Overall a great experience made even better when jibba showed up. I will probably come back next year.

I want to be more like 337.

The Wolf: If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need you guys to act fast if you wanna get out of this. So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Clean the fucking car.

BigusSchmuck

Yeah I got some pictures I will post some when I get home.

I had a much better time there on Sunday, since I had Bigus to hang out with.As he said, Turbobs were few and far between, and much of it was sickeningly overpriced, but we still managed to find a few goodies.

Some gouging highlights include the CIB Motoroader for $50, the CIB NES Contra for $75, and the TG16 system with all hookups, but no box or anything, for $100.  I was really hoping to buy a copy of Air Zonk while I was there, but the cheapest option was a loose Huey for $30.

Here's a pic of everything I got while in Portland.  Two of the books came from Powell's, and the rest came from the expo.

GEN - Thunder Force 2
GEN - Comix Zone
PC - D&D Eye of the Beholder
PC - Wolfenstein 3D shareware disk
PC - Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold shareware disk
Activision Megamania high score patch
Book "Game Calculators Play"
Book "Masters of Doom"
Book "Secrets of the Games: Sega CD"
Book "Castlevania: The official Hint Guide"  Includes Super Castlevania but not Drac X for SNES or Rondo for PCE.
VCS - Road Warriors limited edition homebrew game
TG16 - Super Volleyball
TG16 - Motoroader
TGCD - Lords of Thunder
TGCD - The Adams Family
TGCD - Dungeon Master: Theron's Quest
TGCD - Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective

The most expensive Turbob was Lords.  Priced at $40, but I bought it together with Adam's Family, so I got it for $30 and Adam's for $10.  Motoroader was $10, Sherlock was $10, Volleyball was $10, and Dungeon Master was $15.

Heh, you got Adams Family too huh. I wish I would have shown up earlier on Saturday (the wife wanted to go to the pittock mansion go figure), it looks like you got some good gems there. Last year the prices were definitely a lot more reasonable and there were a lot more people dressed up. At least this year I got my picture taken with the golem from Dragon Quest. :) I promise to put some pics of the convention when I get home, stuck doing statements at work again ><

CGQuarterly

Yeah, I made sure to get there first thing in the morning, so that I could do a sweep for Turbobs before looking for anything else or enjoying the other aspects of the expo.

The only guys I like from AGG are Metal Jesus and Drunken Master Paul, because I watch their show on YouTube.  And even then, I would have no interest in going to a panel discussion featuring them.  If I ran into them on the show floor or at the after party, I would have tried to chat it up with them, but that's about it.

How you go from David Crane and Gary Kitchen to the guys from All Gen Gamers is beyond me.

I used to listen to AGG but after Happy Console Gamer left the show it just kind of died for me - he was kind of the lifeblood of that crew.

It's still an entertaining show, though it lacks the polish and pacing of a retronauts or insert credit podcast.

CGQuarterly

I don't know why, but I have a really low tolerance level for amateurish podcasts.  I used to love "A Life Well Wasted" and "Twitch Asylum", but they're both gone.  I also used to listen to Chatterbox but I just got bored with it.  I tried listening to Retro League or whatever it's called, but it was just awful.  I created one episode of a podcast with my buddy, and I spend so much time in "post production" editing out all of his lip smacks, tongue clicks, etc. that I knew I didn't have the patience for podcasting at the level of quality that I demand out of others' work.  Same goes for YouTube videos.  It would be fin to start making them, but unless I put the time and effort into making them look as polished as people like Metal Jesus or that Sp1da or whoever guy that does the excellent "Turboviews" show, I wouldn't be happy with them, and I just don't have the time or motivation for that.

Yeah when the happyconsolegamer left to take a break because of the movie and his up and coming marriage,it did feel kind of empty with out him.Still i thought mjr did a good job of filling in for him.Maybe when the hcg has that free time again he will come back.

On the next agg podcast he's coming back for a guest spot.
By the way the hcg movie is finished now and out.

I hope he went home with it.  People are such dumbasses.  $100 for CIB NAI and he wouldn't haggle?  These conventions are meant for haggling.  Retailers GTFO.  As if he wouldn't even come down $10.  He had to hold on to his bullshit $100 price tag even if it meant he went home with it after getting offers of $75 and $80?   God people are stupid.  It makes me wanna throw up.

Sounds like there were some decent deals a midst the bullshit.
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.
