Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

When it comes to CD-based consoles, one thing that I've always been very fond of is a system's audio CD player screen and visualizer (if any). It's just something that's fascinated me for a long while.

One of my favorite resides on the Sega Saturn.

The CD player controls are creatively displayed onscreen as spheres, and when a track plays, a starship navigates its way through the cosmos. Great little easter egg on the Saturn.  8)

Also of note are the visualizers for the PS3, 360, Dreamcast, and Jaguar.

What does the PC-FX's CD player interface consist of? Are there any kind of visuals?
My past-life would've surely led to our demise, and I had left it not a moment too soon. Our escape, though dangerous, had gone well. The train ride, sunlight, and passing snow-covered pine trees came together in a flickering show of our bright, new future together. Her head rested on my shoulder as she soundly slept to the gentle rocking of the passenger car. We felt freedom. We felt peace.

Wow, I never knew that about the Saturn!  I used my Turbografx-16 as a music player bitd because it was my first CD player, but by the time I got a Saturn, I had a dedicated CD player as part of my sound system so never tired playing audio through it.  Now I feel like hooking it up again just to watch some tunes!

Hmm, interesting question.  I've never popped a music disc in the ol' FX, so I'll have to give it a try tonight.

Not only to watch, but the Saturn also has a Karaoke mode that *tries to take out the vocals of the music you're listening to!!  Also pretty fun messing around with the pitch audio settings!  Love the work Sega put into this.  :)

I vaguely remember some blurry screenshots showing the CD player for PC-FX. It must have been old PCE Fan magazines or something.

My hope is that it would change the skin colour....  holding select down would then turn it into disco flashing insanity mode!!  ;)

Just tested it, select does nothing, However a cool thing is there is a speed up song function, its the last slider with a music note on it.

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

The Sega CD was the first anything I had that would play CDs, so I remember using that all the time.  The little menu on it was okay, but was still kind of kludgy.  The fact that the Saturn basically hotkeyed certain buttons on the pad to CD playback functions was pretty awesome as well.
