Hi everyone !

Like you know I'm really beginner in the PC engine world and at this time I need some of your thought about a possible trade I could do with someone close to me.
I have in my hand a Batsugun (sega saturn) and he has a Lord of Thunder. He want to do a straight trade with me.
Would it be a nice shoot ?
I would like to read your honesty about this.
Thanks for helping a new one in your world !

Lords/Winds of Thunder is the greatest game of all time. Swap any game you have for it and you win.

edit: Just had a look and it looks like in terms of monetary value it's not a good swap, Batsugun looks to sell higher than LOT. But LOT is the best game ever, you must own a copy, so sell your Batsugun on eBay and buy a copy of LOT on eBay.

Or even better buy PC Engine Winds of Thunder .

I don't know how they compare in terms of value, but Lords o' Thunder is definitely worth picking up.

That seems like a pretty unbalanced trade but then I don't know what nuts prices people are paying for LoT these days. Historically I think Batsugun is probably twice as valuable.

My opinion: Batsugun is also one of the best games ever made. You should be careful about jumping the gun because of posters saying "do it!" when you know this site is biased in favor of pc-engine games.

I'd personally be hesitant for a pure one-on-one swap, when the game in question is undoubtedly valuable. Research ebay completed listing prices, as well as current going rates on both ebay and amazon.

You also have to take into consideration that you may likely find L.O.T.* for cheaper on Yahoo Auctions Japan (via a proxy service like From Japan or Buyee).

*searching ウィンズ オブ サンダー on YAJ or From Japan

who's said "do it"??? the forum advice has been against the trade as in "monetary value" Batsugun is worth more.

LOT seems to sell for double these days from when I last checked years ago but it's still a lot less than Batsugun.

I think LOT is an infinitely better game than Batsugun so as I advised above sell Batsugun and buy LOT (or Winds).

Batsujun is just a standard port from different hardware. It's not a special remake like Super Darius II or Sidearms Before Christ or anything. Lords/Winds for Turbo/PCE is the real game running on the hardware it was designed for. The value of the Saturn version is strictly  from collectibilty.

Lords went for $30 for close to 20 years straight. Then, not long ago, collectards collectively declared, "I'm not paying $30 for the Super Mario & Duckhunt of the TurboGrafx-CD, I'll pay no less than $70 and try to hold out for sellers gullible enough to take $150 for the most common CD game!"

Based on recent eBay sale prices, this us what you should expect to pay to buy these games within a reasonable period of time:

Batsujun: $175
Lords of Thunder: $80
Winds of Thunder: $60

I'd offer the other guy a deal, perhaps.  Lords +$100 (or less if he's a friend/whatever) and Batsugun is his.  Honestly, I think Lords is a much better game so I truly believe that you'd be winning in an even exchange but no reason to completely ignore the idea of the current monetary worth of these two games.

Does anyone remember if TZD ever actually sold out of LoT? I remember them having MSRP copies well into the 2000s. Just sitting there. Nobody wanted them.

Hang on to Batsugun! That game is great! Lords of thunder is also a great shooter but not worth a trade for Batsugun.

No, they had them in stock and people here regularly talked about ordering it right until they closed and everything began flipping on eBay. It was the potential hit that they banked what little they had left on, at a time that they were hoping to expand the CD user base further. Given how many copies I saw in stores and all over the internet, it's definitely one of the highest printed Turbo CD games. Even years into collectards gone wild, its price still didn't increase until all at once it doubled in asking price. Shortly after that, even Winds of Thunder increased in price as well, but was no longer more expensive than Lords.

Since it was released in 1993, Winds/Lords of Thunder has been my favourite game.
When I started going on internet gaming forums in the early 2000s I would constantly preach it's greatness whenever I could, but back then nobody else seemed to really sympathise with my passion for the game.
Over the last couple of years though things have changed, I've noticed it seems generally people in the "retro gaming" community have realised and clocked on to how epically awesome the game is and it's now spoken with high regard. I regularly hear the game's incredible music used in gaming YouTube videos and recently Happy Console Gamer took the name and music and started the "Lords of Thunder podcast".

I think that the Turbo/PCE prices have risen for Lords just because of association with the Sega-CD version, since Sega-CD has become popular with set collectors and the not-so-rare Sega-CD version is now considered OMEGA rare.

LoT is one of my favorites on the system, but I would keep Batsugun.  Regardless of it being an arcade port it rocks and is just as good as the pcb.  If value is not a concern try Lord's in an emulator to see which game you like more.  If you just don't care for Batsugun sell it and have money to buy LoT and have money left over for more games to buy.

The real question should be: Do you like Batsugun much if at all?  Or do you like Lord of Thunder more?  If you're going to do a trade based on game value, Batsugun is worth more (maybe ask him for a second game that is common but fun or cash to even out the trade value?) but if you're going to trade based on game replay value, then don't sweat too much on if it's a good deal or not.

I haven't played Batsugun as Saturn wasn't my strong point so I don't know if you're getting good gameplay value in trade.
