Save states? I guess the young whippersnappers won't be able to play the games without whining otherwise?! ;)

Well, however flawed it may be, it will be better than no 4:3 option... :)

Don't you think it will simply be a "scan line" effect superimposed over a 4:3 mode (you might have options to choose thinner/thicker, sharper/blurrier, etc. and adjust transparency of effects)....
I think it is more than scan lines, as it appears they are redrawing the game to provide pixel fakery as well.  It seems they are doing quite a bit of work on these games, compared to something like the Genesis plug and play that was released a few years ago.  Other than the cartridge slot and authentic controller ports, this appears to be a higher quality build hands down.

Yeah, modern Genesis clones are pretty much garbage at this point unfortunately.  There was some cool movement towards GOACs for awhile, but the future seems like HDMI which means custom display modes and near perfect hardware emulation.

If the savestates will be handled just like on the Wii Virtual Console, then there'll be one savestate for each  game for the sake of conveniently powering off the console and continue playing a different day. When continuing, the savestate erases itself instantly, so you still need skills to progress further in the game.

Quote from: guest on 07/14/2016, 12:45 PMYou can even get a NES housing for the pi.
This 100% the pi3 is the best for practically everything else as well. Hands down the best investment overall I ever made.
Raspberry pi is the way to go. Emulates just about everything very nicely.

Yup I'm still reading the thread too.
I agree with a lot of stuff being said. We share the same opinion.

Ed Mandy is working on a Pi that goes in a GBA case. This works perfectly, IMO, since OG GBAs are pretty much worthless due to the shitty screen.

I prefer sitting on the floor. I hardly ever sit on the sofas in the living room. I sit or lay on a nice rug. In the bedroom floor space is limited so I lay on my bed to game / watch DVDs.

Japanese version just announced.  I've cancelled my pre order due to getting a pi3 but the jpn one is making me want..

Japan gets a different line up of games and the controllers are really small!

I think North America is getting a better lineup of games...

BUT I AM A FOOL and I want both minis simply because of (1) novelty factor and (2) I am so curious about whether or not this will actually be a "quality" product. Yes, I've read the arguments...I know Nintendo has a solid track record when it comes to products (it's why I trust them). But still....this is new territory.

Anyway, the reality is that I won't get either one until (hopefully) they are deeply discounted at some future point in time :)

Deeply discounted meaning what? $20?

Two exclusive Technos games means a lot, but the US version is at least as good. Pre-wired pads compared to Wii compatible ones is not an upgrade.

The little Famicom controllers are cute and match the system, but probably not very comfortable for longer gaming sessions.  The 2 Kunio games makes me want the Famicom version as well.

TheClash603

I will definitely need to get both, fucking Nintendo and their nostalgic grip on me.

Does the Australian system have the same games as the U.S.?  Seems like they wouldn't care about Tecmo Bowl.

No, I would imagine it would be replaced with something like Crocodile Rugby

From what I saw those Fami controllers will be usable.

I didn't mean non-functional.  I mean so uncomfortable to hold that they're useless for anything other than looking awesome.

Ah gotcha.

Have you guys seen this yet? Blew my mind. It's backwards of what one would normally assume.

*Classic Mini vs. Wii U VC*

crazydean

It's not that surprising. The virtual console is know to be pretty terrible. The surprise is that the classic actually looks good.

I don't agree with the sound  being better. The virtual console sound is they way I remember it.

SignOfZeta

Wii VC is extremely good. Wii U VC is, apparently, another story. I only have two games for Wii U VC but I've spent much more time with Wii VC. My opinion is that the Wii is probably the best box for outputting old school video that you could imagine. Quality is ROCK SOLID when using component video and an SD set. If the NES Mini does exactly what the Wii VC did but over HDMI then it's absolutely worth the asking price.

Regardless, NES/FC Mini and the Wii and even the Wii U crush any NES experience we had in the 80s and it does it for about the cost one NES cart. This is a pretty easy thing to buy with confidence.
IMG

Mathius

I agree that the Wii VC is outstanding. Super Mario 3 looks spectacular on my CRT w/ component cables with its impressive scanlines. Wii U on the other hand looks dark. I was thinking my one Wii U VC title, Earthbound Beginnings, was a fluke when I saw how dark the picture was.

Groover

I already wanted the Mini- NES and now I want the Mini-Famicom. I think they are a fun novelty. Nether are going to replace my AV Famicom with the NESRGB mod but this would be fun to bring over to a friends house.

Wouldn't it be better to bring over a flash cart instead?

My friends suck and don't have SDTV or old consoles, so I see why this is a problem.

I love the novelty of this, but I know I would literally never play it. Maybe someone will buy it for me for Christmas or something.

Preordered it from Amazon UK. Hopefully it'll be in my filthy hands before christmas.

M$ should have allowed that NES emulator on their X1 app store.

Even if Microsoft would have allowed it I am sure the Big N would have it forcibly removed

Nazi NecroPhile

They could try, but there's nothing illegal about an emulator.

Exactly, an emulator by itself is not illegal. Don't advertise it, just let it be in the sea of apps. The Google play store for example has commercial NES emulators and the big N hasn't said anything.

I think it wasn't just Nintendo that MS didn't allow it.  They have plenty of partners that are trying to sell collections, or digital versions of their old 8 bit and 16 bit titles.  It probably wouldn't make them happy either.
