10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

OK folks. I'm curious as to what your favorite game endings are and why. Personally, I'm fond of Gate of Thunder's ending, just because it summed up the game experience nicely. The music was cool as well. Also, the end of Soldier Blade where it appears your recurring opponent is not, indeed, completely defeated, is very cool.

CrackTiger

I don't think that anyone who's played through Far East Of Eden: Fuun Kabuki Den would argue that it has the best ending. :)
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

spenoza

That was a thoroughly unexpected take on my query  ;)  Any endings you happen to really like?

nat

I can't really think of any Turbo game endings that stood out to me.

Video games tend to generally have pretty lackluster endings anyway. It's not a matter of "Does game x have a crappy ending?" but rather "Just how crappy was it?"

For the most part, games usually end with a "Game Over"/"The End" blurb. If you're lucky you'll get a pretty still shot or something and/or a credit roll. In extreme cases you may be graced with an "Epirogue".

GUTS

I thought Lords of Thunder had a pretty cool ending.

Keranu

Gates and Kabuki Den had great endings.

Some of my top favorites are in Dragon Slayer and all of the Ys games. Those games had incredible and warm endings that really touched the heart. Cosmic Fantasy 2 also had a mind blowing ending.

Ys I.II has not only good memories for me, but also two of the best music tracks on any game ever.

The ending to John Madden Duo CD Football is, like, totally rad!  Very dramatic and you breathe a huge sigh of relief once you find out that you saved the world after all your effort.

Other cool endings:

Cosmic Fantasy II
Golden Axe
Super Darius

Seriously, its not like, "I love this game and the ending's cool, so therefore its teh best!" or anything. Kabukiden really does have some very unbelievable and unique events within its general ending that stands out among games in general.

I actually loved the ending to Madden DUO.

It was a nice tribute to the guys at Hudson, and sort of a last hurrah for the DUO in the U.S.

Seriously!
Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Arrr, I hate Madden but I so want to play the Duo version!!!!!

Yeah, I really did like the ending to Cosmic Fantasy 2. It was a really nice twist, the end events. Kinda interesting how such a buggy and bland (gameplay-wise) RPG could have such an interesting series of events and plot twists.

RuninRuder

For some of these, I'm taking into account the immediate lead-up to the endings, not just the "post-final-boss" stuff.

Some HuCard endings I like...

Veigues Tactical Gladiator
The Legendary Axe II
Night Creatures
Bonk's Adventure

Some CD endings I like...

Ys Book I & II
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Tenshi no Uta
Tengai Makyou Kabuki Den
Cosmic Fantasy 4, Chapter 2
Dragon Knight III
Sylphia
Madou Monogatari
Basted
Shape Shifter

Nazi NecroPhile

Some of my favorite endings, in no particular order:

Ys I & II - Ya can't beat the characters dancing around as the credits role.  Simply, awesome.
Dracula X - Wheee!  Three different endings!
Beyond Shadowgate - Three different endings here too.  Four if you count dying, again (and again, and again, and....).
Deep Blue - I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure that I'll love it.  Why?  Because it'll finally be fucking over and I'll never have a reason to touch this flaming pile again.

That's what you think.

I don't think you understand. The "ending" of Deep Blue is obviously not the kind of ending you envision.

I'll leave it at that.

spenoza

I'll take that to mean Deep Blue loops and you just keep playing...

Nazi NecroPhile

Shit, nat.  Does that piece o' guano loop ad infinitum?  Surely it gives up after three or four trips.  If not, maybe I'll have to create my own ending.... involving 9mm of specialness (and I'm not talking about what's in my pants).

I haven't made it through three loops yet so I couldn't tell you. But I wouldn't be surprised.

Things get incredibly hard midway through the second loop.

guyjin

I've only ever beaten 2 turbo games (Ninja Spirit and Cadash) and both were lackluster. The former was worse than the latter: you just get to see the bosses again (named, but you can't read them, of course)

the latter was ok; you got to see a nice big princess sprite say something to you (dunno what, I have the Japan version)

Hopefully, my next beaten game will be either bonk's adventure or Cosmic Fantasy 2...

Good god I hope you're not talking about what's in your pants, a 9mm dong would definitely be special, but not in a good way.

Xanadu II's end area is pretty cool with all the boss fights and such.

Oh hell yeah, Xanandu II had one of the coolest final boss fights of all time. That was extremely impressive stuff and really blew my mind.
