@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Way back when EB still carried TG-16 games, but only a few, mind you, I bought a copy of China Warrior. I quickly learned it sucked balls and went back to return it the next day. Only they didn't take returns, only exchanges (whereas nowadays I don't think they even allow those) so I looked at what little else was there. I had only paid $20 for China Warrior and not much else carried that price. So I picked up Splash Lake in desperation. It was awesome!

I had so much fun with Splash Lake. I think it's a super under-rated TG-16 title, and one of the few regular CD games I consider worth getting. Buy it!

Keranu

Definitely, I love that game.

Splash Lake is awesome. Whoever came up with the concept of a turkey wearing a tie pecking at planks over a lake is a genius  :).

I bought this game at Toys R Us brand new sealed for $3 I think.  I've probably played it 5 times since then.

You haven't experienced the game until you play it in 2-player co-op mode. (I've probably only played the 1-player mode once or twice myself.)

It's a favorite my wife and I just love to play. It gets really really hard towards the end of the game though.

Totally agreed! Splash Lake combines strategy and with reflexes perfectly and it's amazing how well it works out on two players!

You know the game calls them ostriches but I think that's impossible! They are totally turkeys!

We also must remember that this game features the coolest enemy of all time, even cooler than the gunhead (or perhaps "gunhed" would be more appropriate) in Keith Courage: THE COOL SMOKING LOG!

Though not as cool as the log, the black ostriches are a bitch. They can sink your battleship!

Splash Lake will rock your socks clean off of your dirty, stinking feet.  Love it or fuck off.

I LOVE THIS GAME. Splash Lake is one of my favorite games for the Turbo Duo. I just love the music, especially during the boss fights. And man were those boss fights challenging at times!

spida1a did a great review of this game:
Hmm, I'm going to have to play this game on MagicEngine. Unfortunately my Turbo Duo stopped playing CD games... I think the mechanism that spins the disc is broken.

Arkhan Asylum

this game is pretty awesome.

It reminds me of kickle cubicle for nes sorta.

I wish that game had a PCE release.

Sure, I'll take $500 for it. (JOKING JOKING! :-)

Actually I'd like to hang onto it, because one day I hope to fix it. Or until I get a working one, it still plays the TG16 games.

TheClash603

This was a US only release?  That means 2 of my top 10 TG16 games are US only!

I can't get enough of Splash Lake.  I have mastered this game, beating it front to back several times with all the secret items.

Maybe I will do it again this weekend!

shubibiman

No, Splash Lake was initially released in Japan. I still don't own this game but as I read this topic, I'm getting frustrated.

Splash Lake is definitely an underrated game. I can only imagine how fun the 2 player mode would be.

I bought this when it first came out, idk, for some reason, seeing screenshots in Gamepro, VG&CE, EGM just made my mouth water. I wasn't let down either, love this game.

Them bouncing spring things can be a pain in the arse.

And yes, gets pretty tricky toward the end, a very fun clear.
Nothin beats the real thing.

OldRover

Splash Lake takes a rather unique concept and puts it together with solid gameplay and an excellent soundtrack. What's more is that it has great replay value... you need to collect all of the secret items (one in each level), and it opens up a whole new world (with more secret items!)... do it again and you get yet ANOTHER new world... which, by the way, cannot be completely cleared in single-player mode... you have to use two players to completely finish the very last level of the game (surviving a timer expiration doesn't count as a complete finish).
Turbo Badass Rank: Janne (6 of 12 clears)
Conquered so far: Sinistron, Violent Soldier, Tatsujin, Super Raiden, Shape Shifter, Rayxanber II

Very interesting. I'll have to round someone up for a complete clear.

Maybe my memory is foggy, but I swear I beat this game solo...  what can't you do on the last level with just one player?

haha. Reminds me of the guy from "King of Kong" that could play Tempest with his feet.
