I am just curious what system people think looks better out of a Turbo grafx CD system and a PC engine DUO-R. I currently own both and am deciding which one to keep cause I want to sell one.

Arkhan Asylum

I really like the briefcase setup because it just looks all like retro high tech.  It's got just the right trim and contrast between black and white plastics/paint that it just  pops the fuck out and says WELCOME TO THE 1980S. WE'RE AWESOME.

Second in line is the duo-r.  It is so sleek and sexy.

The TGCD looks fucking retarded.  There is so much wasted space on that setup.  It is unnecessarily big.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

I think the T-16 CD attachment looks really cool. It makes the original T-16 look more complete. Behind the Super Grafx, I'd say that combo is the best looking NEC console. And besides, the CD attachments are much harder to find than Duo-Rs. If you have one that is in good working condition, I would hold on to it.

CrackTiger

I'd stick with the Duo R because it is more functional.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Arkhan Asylum

The TG shouldn't have been made like it was.  It was such a stupid idea to do that and then release that mongoloid mounting dock.  It looks special ed.

Overall, Duo-R's probably the best setup for most people if you're going to just keep one system.  Style wise, I think the Duo-R is middle of the road amongst all the PCE variants, but that's just personal opinion (still better than TG16+CD setup, though).

Functionality wise, the Duo-R trumps the TG16+CD.  It's easier to maintain, repair, get parts for, better compatibility (not just with wide selection of games, but with periphrals such as controllers, etc), TG16 can't use arcade cards without a mod, etc, etc...

About the only reasons to prefer the TG16 setup might be for nostalgic reasons, or if you HAVE to play US cards and you don't want to mod the Duo-R (which you must do in order to play US games.)

To add the cherry on top, you'll probably get more cash for the TG16 setup than the Duo-R setup.

Arkhan Asylum

if you want the best, cheapest route to playing everything ever, you wants you a duo-r.

If you want the best cheapest route to playing everything plus 5 extra games, you wants you a SuperGrafx, RAU30, IFUthingy and CD attachment, or SCD addon

Itll cost a dickload, but Aldynes is worth the load.  and by load I mean, the money you spend to play it, and the mess in your pants while you play it.

Agreed. The US Duo looks awesome, but it's touch and go. The TGCD, while a great piece of gaming history, can also pose problems with the gears. The DuoR is really the best solution, especially for a first entry into the realm of NEC. Later on, you may want to pick up a US Duo or the TGCD.

I would do the opposite, but for the same reason. Ditch the Turbo CD while its still working and let the next guy try to find a gear for it when it craps out.

Stay with the duo-r. The other is just so stinking big.

PCE & CD-ROM IFU30 = damn best looking thing on earth and probably beyond of that.
DUO = most functional + still a hell of a cool design.
TG16 & CD-ROM = looks like someone shitted in the backyards.

turbogrfxfan

LaserActive baby!  Sticking a tiny HuCard into a massive LD player is just awesome.
And the LD games are fun too.  If only I one could connect a SuperGrafx to the LA.
Would be the ultimate rig.

I don't give much of a fuck which one looks better (it's the R), as what they put on the screen is of utmost importance; since they're equally capable of that task, I'd keep the much more reliable R.

I really like the Duo-R/RX, they just look so slick.  And they were pioneers too, there wasn't another console with purple (indigo?) coloring on it that I saw until the Gamecube.

TurboGrafx+CD just looks a bit chunkier to me, plus it'd be harder to reach back to the CD unit if you have it on some shelves.

Derp, you're right.  But I'll just ignore the SNES since I didn't have one as a kid  :p

The RX looks better. It has a purple button and a cooler logo. Plus its what I have.  :)
