Dungeon Master theron's quest help

This may sound like a stupid question, but how the heck do you open chests in this game? Does each one have a key or something?

Pick it up and put it in your character's left hand (your right) in the menu and the contents will show up off to the side.

Oh ok, I tried putting it in the other hand and just about everything else. Thanks, now I can actually get somewhere, the key I need is in a chest.
