How would you handle this ebay situation that I'm in?

Like everyone else here, I collect for not only the TG16 or PC Engine, but I also keep my eye out for other systems that I collect for as well. Enter ebay.com. About six days ago I saw a PSP game that was listed for .99 cents with a shipping charge of $2.68. No reserve price. No Buy it Now. I went ahead and put down a two dollar bid on a whim thinking that I would get out bid. Well, after about five days I won the auction at 99 cents. Nobody else bid. I went ahead and paid the seller.

After I paid for the game, I checked my email and saw a message from the seller saying the following:

Please forgive me as i must relist this item as i did not correctly list this item , so please again for my neglict, this is my first time using ebay. ill ask that you not purchase this item that way you don't have to wait for your funds and such. hit me back asap.

I also noticed that he re-listed the exact game for a starting bid of $25.00 with a buy it now of $45.00. Not sure about him being truthful about his first time using ebay as he has almost 40 feedbacks, all of which are positive and his recent ebay history is all about video game purchases.

How would you handle the situation? Obviously he didn't like where the auction ended and now wants to re-list it. Let him go or threaten him with negative feedback if he doesn't honor the deal. I just got done working a 62 hour work week and I'm too tired and lazy to make a decision right now.

Not much you can do but to leave feedback. There's no way to force the seller to follow through with the transaction.

Even though it's the seller fault, they probably would choose to take a the negative rather than give the psp away for $3.67 shipped.

I would not leave a negative. I had this happen to me before where I refunded the buyers money because I changed my mind, and the buyer left a negative, which fucked my 100% feedback rating up. Shit happens, and although you may nor agree with it, at least he is letting you know up front. Maybe it was an honest mistake, who knows?

It's up to you, but a negative is completely reasonable in this situation. It's happened to me before- I left a negative feedback, and commented something like "bought item, seller backed out of sale". And then you just move on, since Ebay doesn't really allow for any other recourse. If I were a seller, I would expect the same if I backed out of a transaction.

No, that's bullshit. Open a case with ebay and tell them you want your item.

The seller cannot leave neg feedback for you, even if he wanted to. So you have nothing to lose except of course your patience. You bid, you won, he's obligated to send it. If he still refuses then leave neg feedback and keep hunting.

@Bernie: Sorry, but if you "changed your mind" after selling an item on ebay, you deserved the neg feedback you received.

I say warn him that you will leave a neg, give him a few days to take care of it, then leave a neg if he doesn't pull the listing and give you a tracking number.

I completely understand "oopsies" but he lied about this being the first time he's used eBay, and he's already got the thing re-listed at a way higher price. This is his fault and he needs to suck it up. I let a significant XBOX lot (5-6 games and 2 guides) go several years ago (pre 360) for $12 because I wasn't paying attention and didn't put a reserve on it. I pouted to myself, shipped, and moved on.

OK it's your prerogative to change your mind, but whatever that item cost, your bidder(s) was budgeting his money to pay you for it, so by changing your mind, you've messed with that person's time and finances. He could have bid on another similar item during the time he was waiting to win your item.
If you had reservations about selling it, you should have pulled it before it ended or even better, never listed it at all.

I'm not saying you're a bad guy or a bad seller, I just said you deserved negative feedback on that transaction. That's what it's there for. It would be just as wrong for a high bidder to say "you know, I, uh, yeah.. I changed my mind. I'm not paying you, nevermind." Unfortunately ebay changed their policies a while back so that a seller can't leave neg feedback for buyers who do exactly that, which I think is unfair.

In Flare's case, it IS true. He got a great deal and the seller needs to honor it. I hope you get your game bud. Even if the seller is new to ebay, he should have read closely and paid better attention to what he was doing. It's not your fault it didn't sell for what he was hoping to get. I hope you'll open a case with ebay - though you'll prob just get your money back when the seller refuses to send it, it's only right to keep people honest.

Don't get that way dude. There ain't no need for personal attacks, and I really don't appreciate it. Me not agreeing about changing my mind on selling my games, is a totally different situation than what you propose.

That being said, I don't think negative feedback is NOT deserved, I just wouldn't leave it in that situation since I have done something like that. I admit, in my case, it isn't that I wanted to re-list it though. That in itself is crappy as the seller. If I had done that, then hell yes I would expect negative feedback. Either way, a negative is deserved, just not necessarily needed.

Up to you what you want to do. I've listed items that have gone for less that I'd like, but I've manned up and sent them, because that was the deal.

Hell, I had a wireless router go for 99p, and then had the buyer threaten to give me negative feedback because they expected me to offer them tech support and I wasn't looking at my emails. The fucker was boxed with a manual.

But on the other hand, I've dealt with nasty underhanded people, I've dealt with people who could have been honest but you just don't know (like the person who allegedly resent the item three times, and who strung me on long enough for the feedback period to expire).

One thing to remember; if you give negative feedback, they get the chance to either fuck with you (by reciprocating) or to redeem themself by making good, in which case you can change to a positive.

I personally would leave neg feedback or at least message the seller (in hopes of fixing the problem) if he pulled the sale because he made a mistake or 'changed' his mind just like I would if a buyer messaged me saying he couldn't pay for the item or 'changed' their mind. The transaction had an issue that came up that killed the sale. Whoever is responsible for that deserves a neg/neutral to show others to be leery of someone that might just 'change' their mind after you invested time to make a sale/purchase.

While I certainly wouldn't take a scorched-earth mentality, I think negative feedback is warranted. To me, once the transaction occurs, it's binding. If after the sale happens you realize, "Oh crap...I could've made more money." too bad. Lesson learned for next time.

I would leave a negative. The point of the auction is once it is complete it is a binding contract basically between the buyer and seller, and both are required to complete the transaction. The seller had ample chance to set the prices when he did the initial listing, including a chance to review the auction listing before posting it, and the amount he entered he did so on his own for the starting bid amount. His fault. This is not one of those things you can really chalk up to being a mistake. Its sellers remorse which is totally different, and auctions don't allow wiggle room for the such. If you cant be willing to honor your own auctions then you don't need to be on ebay. If I have a item end for less then I wanted initially, I suck it up and complete the transaction. Its my problem, not the buyers.
