Hey i just bought myself a little S-video to composite because i heard S-Video was better looking (not by much but better looking) it costed me 18$ for this little gizmo a little to much if you ask me...anyways heres my question.

Does making s-video into composite downgrade the signal back to composite so im doing jack all?
Is this set up better then just composite cables?

Does your TV have S-video? What you are describing adds no benefit.

You took a good quality video signal and downgraded it to composite video quality

The benefit of s-video is the seperation of the Chroma and Luma signals. When you combine them back into composite video you lose that improvement in video quality. That cable is only handy if you had a device that had svideo out but no composite video out in order to connect to your TV. But there won't be an improvement in picture quality. Test it yourself

*Sighs*...None been burning games (on ebay right now looking at a few cheap ones)
Every time i burn a game to a cd whenever a cut scene of anime comes up it trys to play then says cd disc error then boots back up to intro game play plays fine just any cut scene and the pc-fx is all about the cut scenes...

TRY Rakuten, yeah you may have to pay In't shipping, but they commonly have games listed for around 500 Yen - roughly 5 USD. (If you get 3 or 4 that could justify shipping for sure.)

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

spawn844

Is that a trusted site and ships to canada?
Dont wanna give money to something i wont ever get...
How do they ship? air mail? EMs?

Yes, just customize to show stores that send to CA.  and it is very reliable.  I have not heard a complaint about them yet.

the website is kinda a middleman so each seller/store is diffrent.  Most send EMS.

note: most of the PC-FX stuff looks like it's from suruga-ya.  Down side is no pictures or details will be availbale about it.  The upside is most of the time what they do send is in pretty good condtion, even if disc only ect.

If the listing says things like "no box theory" then it's disc only  Double check by changing the page to Japanese and use a translation tool if you're unsure.
Surugaya only does EMS and it can take a few days for them to get back to you sometimes, just FYI : )

For shipping, look at the EMS rates to get a rough idea.

The PC-FX has generic composite and s-video jacks, so there's no need for any kind of special cables, unless for some odd reason you have a TV that neither supports composite nor s-video. For that matter, you don't even have to use the system's original cable. You can just as well buy a PC-FX without any video cable included and hope that maybe it'll scare some bidders off who assume the PC-FX uses something unique to itself.

spawn844

^ i know all that i was just hoping to upscale (because apparently s-video is better then composite)

Yeah, if you're going the scaling route s-video is infinitely better than composite, not just because of the difference in picture quality (as Duo-R described well) but because scalers with good comb filters, which are needed to separate the Chroma and Luma video signals, aren't as common as one would think. In fact, it's not uncommon for HD TV sets to have better comb filter than some (well known) video processors.

Since s-video keeps those signals separate, there's no need to really worry about the quality of the combfilter and that makes it easier finding a good scaler.

You mention your TV does not have an S-video input, does it have scart inputs instead?

It does not, just HDMI/Composite/component and a few random inputs like internet, optical stero, etc
No S-Video or scart inputs :(

Im using a 55 inch sony bravia LCD (only tv i own)

You should invest in a CRT TV someday if you can. PC-FX games aren't going to look that great on an LCD TV no matter how the system is hooked up.

I've been checking the site out myself, but most of the listing have NO descriptions at all. So its basically a crap shoot whether you get a complete copy of something or disc only? Seems rather stupid if so...

Arkhan Asylum

You want to use S Video.

If you go to facebook and find the PC-FX tome of obey page, you can see some pictures I took of my actual TV with SVideo.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!
