Haha! That's not what I was meaning to do. It was late at night. Best excuse I got. :)

roflmao

I'm packing up the car now and will head out first thing in the morning!  Wahoo!

Just got back from the Sheraton - round 1 setup is done. The real fun starts tmrw bright and early. We have a mountain of CRTs in the room.

Our space this year (old arcade area) is a huge upgrade over previous years - we'll finally all be in one spot instead of spread out. should be awesome!

Turbofest is room 178, BTW - if you were there last year it's directly across the hall from where the lightgun/imports/fighting rooms were last year.

Mathius

We rolled in around 1:30 CST into room 379. I walked down to our area just to snoop around and saw you guys got all the tables up. Thank God! Some of those were such a pain last year.

ToyMachine78

Ya'll have fun this weekend!

majors

Rob and I head to the airport in an hour. Nect says he can swing a ride for us, hope to see you fools a little after 5pm today!

I'm so baller, I bring my own Shuttle when I fly :)

Come by and introduce yourself!

FABombjoy

Stopped by last night after going to a few bars downtown.  Apologies for my verboseness...I was in rare form   Great setup!

Flare65

I showed up about 15 minutes before the place opened and ran into Dragonmaster Dan walking outside.  We both pre ordered our tickets and were able to skip the huge line and walk right up to the entrance.

All the guys in the Turbofest room were awesome, as usual.  Lots to see and do there.  BlueBMW had a loaner prototype copy of Atlantean to try out, which was cool to see.  Plenty of other games and systems set up to try.  I bought a reproduction Magical Chase HuCard from Chop (Thanks man!).

The convention seemed a lot bigger than last year.  I think it has outgrown a the space at the hotel and they organizers may have to find a new venue for next year.  Lots of pinball games and arcade games to play.  Virtually every home console was there in some shape or form.  Plenty to see an do!

I only spent about $16.00 total on some cheap PSP games in the vendor hall.  Only about four vendors had PCE/TG16 games.  Most of the games on hand were bottom of the barrel crap and Japanese RPGs.  One of the vendors had some quality PCE, SNES, and Megadrive games but his prices were on par with ebay or higher.  Saw a few TG16 systems missing the rear cover going for $90.00 each at a few tables.   No rare USA turbo games at all.

It seems that complete boxed US SNES games are on the rise.  I was on the lookout for a complete Contra 3 and the cheapest I found one was $99.99.  Looks like I'll settle for a loose one.

I feel like we need nametags next year for the PCEFX'ers; I always miss meeting a few of you guys every year. Tried to make it down to the Turbo room as much as I could but I was stuck running my area in the museum 3/4 of the time. Great to see old and new faces as always.

Regarding the potential to move the show - the show outgrew the Sheraton 2 years ago honestly. Unfortunately there's a number of legit factors that are preventing an immediate move somewhere bigger...I'd probably get killed if I went into detail on a public forum ;) The powers that be are definitely aware of the situation. My hope has always been that they'd move it from Brookfield to the Delta Center downtown in Milwaukee (selfishly so that I could walk 5 blocks to the show). It's a much better, wide-open space and has big-league facilities for loading/unloading. So people wouldn't have to push arcade machines, boxes and huge TVs up stairs, through doors and around corners and whatnot. We'll see what happens.

The flow was WAY better this year - we didn't have nearly as many logjams as years past; hallways were clear for the most part. Moving the vendor hall I think was the right choice, even though it was a freaking monsoon this weekend and the rain/flooding combo pissed off some vendors (rightfully so IMHO).  You can't predict mother nature I suppose.

Our museum space was a huge upgrade - we were busy all weekend and Beemer, Mati and Bartre's areas of the museum had a prime spot right out in the main hallway with tons of foot traffic. We had Eugene Jarvis come through and play games in our space which was awesome...spotted some recognizable YouTube/Podcast folks, along with Trickman Terry and Sushi-X from old school EGM.

Lightgun area did awesome again this year, even though I had bad luck this year with equipment (2 dead lightguns, smashed Time Crisis footpedal, dead PCE CD-ROM2). I had House of the Dead 4 running on my 55" LED LCDTV, which was busy pretty much 24/7.

I had to make 2 round trip truckloads to get all my stuff back...that damn LCD took up my entire back seat in the cab. Thanks to Turbokon, Majors, Bartre and Chris (Windy Gaming) for the late night beers after all the packing and loading insanity. I didn't get home until 3:45AM and made the genius decision to go into work this morning on 2 hours of sleep. I still have that 55" LCDTV in my backseat, haha.

Thanks to everyone who came! Pictures to come soon.

can't wait to see more pics.

Couldn't agree more on the new layout working a LOT better.   I still say IF it ever moved into Milwaukee proper the best place would be by the airport, close for flyers, plenty of hotels, food, etc.

Are those MC repro cards like built to last and such or something? Also, how much do they runnn?

Mathius

Back from the show! What a time to be had! After the 15 hour set-up on Friday I was fucking exhausted for most of the show but I am certainly not complaining. Had a great time! Probably spent the most I ever have at the vendor hall this year and I'll get pics up soon. It's ridiculous!

Thanks to Bartre, Jeff Lewis, Josh, Beemer, Nectarsis, and my wife for making this year the most awesome classic gaming show that has ever been staged (yes I am biased). Sorry for anybody I missed.

Two points:
1)Nulltard, you were there??? Why didn't you introduce yourself, you turd!
2)Chop, why oh why didn't you show me one of your MC repro-hueys?

Flare65

Quote from: guest on 04/14/2014, 04:34 PMWHO PLAYED ATLANTEAN.  WHAT DID YOU THINK.  HNFFFFGGGGGGGGG
I got to play it.  Its basically a remake of the old Defender game in an underwater setting.  Instead of a space ship, you're some kind of mechanical dolphin.  If you have ever played Defender on the Atari 2600 or in the arcade, you've played this game.

There was some nice parallax scrolling near the bottom of the screen.  I thought they could use more variety for the background graphics though as it repeats a lot as you fly to the left or right.  The control of your character feels like a drunk on ice trying to roller skate...

Quote from: HailingTheThings on 04/14/2014, 10:43 PMAre those MC repro cards like built to last and such or something? Also, how much do they runnn?
The card itself is some kind of metal.  It has some weight to it.  I paid $30.00.

roflmao

THAT WAS SO AWESOME!

It's always a blast to hang out with you guys.  The show was a nice place to have a meet-up.

Having been my first MGC, I can't really comment on the need of a larger venue, though it was pretty packed and spread out.  And I felt really bad for the vendors when  the entire floor was a giant puddle in their area.  And it was freezing out there on Sunday.

My hotel charged me more than the reservation I made almost a month ago and 8 hours into my drive home I got a speeding ticket, but it was still worth going.

Much good gaming.  Much good conversation. MUCH good beer. :)

Yeah, I know it's a remake of Defender.  I'm the one who is making it, lol.

If you think Atlantean feels drunk, you should play the real Defender at an arcade.    I made the whole inertia thing a lot more forgiving.

...did you make it to the mine field or bosses?  or the alternate level art?

So much. Sucks about the tix and the over charge.

I got back home 8pm Monday. Took a bus from MKE to ORD since the flights looked better for stand by. Was a blast, glad to see all my northern obey brothers, plus meeting new ones. Only dropped $13 in the dealers room on Xserd and Super Daisenryaku, both of which I was looking to get.

Looking forward to Octurbofest and the next MGC already. Any southerners should look to Animazement(self promoting!) and MAGFest (<-lacking in obey, but still a 96 hour party).
