2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Who else is getting excited?  I put over 170 hours into Xenoblade to do absolutely every single side quest; and I can easily see myself clocking in over 300 for this.  I rarely buy new games these days, but I literally got a Wii U solely for this game.  I've been stoked since I saw the first trailer they released, and I can't believe it's just a few weeks away now.  I would have gotten a Japanese Wii U and played it back in April, but I'd already grabbed a US one on for cheap by that point.  It's been such a loooooong wait.

You guys probably won't see me on here for a couple months after December 4th rolls around. ;)

I'll be picking it up but no guarentee how long it will be before I have a lot of time to dedicate to it.

I was totally excited until I heard they got rid of the boob size slider.  I feel like my dreams have been ruined

In all seriousness I am a huge fan of the Xeno franchises and I have the LE for this preordered.  Not sure how it will be until I get it in my hands though.

Heheh.  I'm glad to know some other folks on here are looking forward to it too.  The boobage slider doesn't bother me too much; although I can understand why a lot of people are annoyed with unnecessary censorship.  I just hope it won't hurt sales at all.  I want Monolith to keep making games like this for some time to come.

wildfruit

I fear it likely that keeping the booby slider would have resulted in a pegi 16 rating, which may have harmed sales. My son knows not to ask for any 16 or 18 rated games because I won't give him that.

On a Neo Geo that code would be up down up down D D.

Xenoblade Chronicles was the first new RPG since the 32 bit era ended that I actually liked.  I'm looking forward to buying this game regardless of protagonist breast size.

Well, I've been pretty inactive here for the last few days.... just as predicted.

I put 23 hours in since getting home from work on Friday, and most of it has just been straight-up exploring.  I didn't bother to finish Chapter 3 until I had finished every single mission available to me, had 98% of Primordia's collectopedia finished, and had surveyed 30% of said continent.

The game is just amazing.  I literally spent the first three hours in the Prologue chapter, just going around like, "Oh, wow!  Look at that!!  I wonder if I can climb that?  I bet I can.  Yep, I'm gonna' climb it."  There have only been a few places I couldn't reach on foot thus far.  Unfortunately, I made several attempts to leap my way to the top of NLA, but I haven't been able to make it... yet. XD

There's is a lot to micro-manage.  The good thing is that you can muscle your way through if you want; but doing stuff like leveling up arts and skills, adjusting soul voices, upgrading classes, and raising your field skill help a lot.  At only level 15 I've been able to take out level 23 mobs just by having the right set-up.  Customization is a big part of the fun for me where combat is concerned.

I was not able to play until today, and I just sat down and fought the first initial fight.

I might be quick to judge, or expecting something different, but there are some issues I've had with the fundamentals of this game.

Hearing your love and enjoyment after a good chunk of time committed makes me hopeful that I will see past the small issues I have with the game so far.

Is there a way to adjust the size of the text on screen as I find that it's a lil' small for me to read.

Gredler

Quote from: Digi.k on 12/06/2015, 03:37 PMIs there a way to adjust the size of the text on screen as I find that it's a lil' small for me to read.
This is one of the two issues I have, the other being only a single save slot - I loved in xenoblade chronicles being able to keep the previous save slot open in case I do something I regret.

It's easier to read on my gamepad because I can shove it in my face, but on my 50" tv from my couch about 8' away I have a hard time reading the UI

shawnji

As much as this game and I are pretty much a perfect fit, I can definitely find some issues with it.

The biggest one I have is certainly the size of the text.  The dialogue boxes are fine; but if I'm struggling to read quest details on a 60" TV, there's something wrong there.  I do have a slight astigmatism, but even from five feet away I have trouble with this text.

The other issue I have has to do with jumping.  It is extremely hard to land precisely off a running jump.  That wouldn't bug me so much if it weren't for the fact that the game begs you to explore it vertically even before you get a skell.  Having tiny sections of mushroom-like trees in Noctilum that you can stand on, yet hardly ever land on is kind of aggravating.

I also feel mixed on the music.  I like a lot of it, but the NLA music is kind of unpleasant.  What stinks is that it would be servicable if Sawano just left out the "Uh, uh, yeah," bits.

The rest of the game has felt great to me, although I can understand why it would be frustrating for some.  Having story progression locked behind questing is a very "MMO" thing to do, and will annoy people who aren't obsessed with doing everything possible as soon as it becomes available (like me).  Some people are also going to hate the combat being wrapped around a hotbar with cooldowns, or the degree with which you have to manage tons of little details to maximize efficiency; but if you enjoyed the original Xenoblade I can't see you having a lot of trouble with this.  It feels like a very natural extension of what they did there.

The biggest thing is the story, really.  I think some people will love that it takes a back-seat, where others will absolutely hate how typical it is of Japanese story-telling.  I've found that the better part of the story seems to be in the quests, but then again I loved the affinity and quest systems in the first Xenoblade too, so take that as you will.  It just makes the world feel that much more alive and real to me.

Anyway, I'm sure the game's going to be highly divisive, but as I said before, I think it's the closest I'll get to a game that's a perfect match for me.  I am absolutely loving every second spent on Mira.

Glad to know I am not going blind, and the text is agreeably difficult to read at times.

I put almost 100 hrs into the first xenoblade (a lot, for me, moreso than any one game of that era). And I never actually completed the main questline - I got so caught up in affinty quests I never completed the game before starting up a new game on the 3DS which I am about 30 hours into now.

That being said, this game is more and more addicting as I unlock more and more elements.

I love the offscreen play and being able to continue progress while I was watching Sunday sports, and while my fiance was watching her shows.

I have mixed feelings about the changes to the combat. I love how active you need to be position ally (more  so than before because of the appendage focused attacks), but the camera doesn't feel like it keeps up unless it's way zoomed out, and when I am constantly adjusting the camera my thumb is out of position to hit the B prompts accurately. I really like the soul voice system, and I really like how it encourages you to use specific arts based on the other character's call outs.

I am curious, is there a chain attack system, or was that removed?

This one is definitely getting more fun as I play it, and the environments keep me enticed to trudge through it to see more.

Yup it's gotten better.  It might be a little early saying this but although I have only spent about 5 hours in this game it's like they took bits from Bioware Mass Effect game meets Star Ocean with a little settlement building sim all into one game.

EDIT

Now to decide which Division to join.

Ooh!  That's an excellent idea.  The benefits aren't too great, but you get tickets that let you purchase droppables so that you don't have to farm them.  Also, we can work together to take on special missions that are outside the scope of the normal game if we want.

I take my dear sweet time too, so no worries. :D  I'll post up my friend code after I get home.

As a side note, don't buy from Newegg.  I got my collector's edition of the game in last night and the box was damaged beyond belief.  It was sitting on my front step and you could clearly see the game through the rips and tears.  The CE box was also heavily damaged.  I've contacted them about a replacement, but had to wait an hour for online support to talk with me.   Still not even sure if they'll be able to replace it.

If you're wondering how I've already been playing, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a copy as soon as I found out the CE was going to arrive late. :P

Nice! I got the CE too after regretting not getting the original's CE. It is disappointing that I can't rip the OST songs to a device I'd listen too - only having them on a pc with the usb plugged in is less than desirable. I love the art book, and the packaging though, so at least I have something cool to post up at my desk to stare at while I "work" :P

I don't know if this has been mentioned but if you goto the eshop and on the Xenoblade Chronicles X page.  On the right select the Add-on content you can download packs to speed up things like loading and textures..  Altogether it is a huge ass pack to download.

We are talking about 15.3 gigs.  If you have the digital download version then don't bother with this as it is automatically included.  It's only for those with retail discs.

I pre-downloaded all of those before getting my copy, hoping it would help, and haven't noticed bad load times so I suppose it has.

I should say though, this is when my Wii U HDD said no, and I had to hook up an external. I was lucky to have a spare from college that still seems to work, so I downloaded everything onto that, but now I have this ancient large external hdd next to my tv and my fiance is not super pleased with the aesthetic :P Maybe santa will bring me a more modern and slim hdd to expand my wii u's limited storage capacity

Everything about this game is almost impressive except NLA...  I couldn't believe seeing cars drive through me....

Just done Chapter 4 and taking time out to do other quests.

shawnji

I've got 55 hours in now, and I think I may be overdoing it a bit.  Kinda' got sick of exploring and decided to progress the main plot a bit further.  Of course, after spending so much time on Chapter 3, I had already completed all the prerequisites for Chapters 4 & 5, so I blew right through them.  I really want to get through Chapter 6, because I know that's when I'll finally get to take the Skell license exam.  I'm holding off on doing much of anything in Sylvalum and Cauldros until I get one.  I've already surveyed over 40% of Primordia, and 35% in both Noctilum and Oblivia, so I've definitely done my share of on-foot exploration...

wildfruit

I'm hoping Santa brings me this. One save sucks though. I wonder if logging in with a different profile yields a second chance?

I am about level 9, and have been exploring around in town trying to get as much affinity and quests as I can before moving out into the world. I am a bit confused about the automatically engaged conversations, what is the yellow light that shoots out from the npc to my character, does that represent affinity?

I got my skell last night and sat around for about two hours just seeing how many new places I could make it to that I couldn't manage on foot.  I actually have a probe at every location that doesn't require the flight module now. :D  I also have 65+ hours in already... I might need an intervention. :P

I have answers to a couple of your questions:

1) You can get specific information on the squad missions by holding the "R" button and then pressing "L" to cycle through the icons.  Most of them are just to either kill a certain number of indigens or tyrants.

2) The yellow speech bubbles represent the activation of a "note," which is just a piece of info about one of the many areas in the game.  Usually, you'll see an update saying that such-and-such area has been updated on your mini-map.  Often there will be a check-mark or some other indicator added to one of the hexagonal segments.

Dang, so there is that much stuff being adding to the map? the npc's with a green speech bubble and a ... in it seem to spawn those yellow glow energy transfers every time I get near them, over and over.

shawnji

Well, they turn yellow again, but you can only obtain the note once.  There are definitely a ton of them, though.

Oddly, I haven't played at all yet tonight.  I think I needed a little break.  I'm going golfing tomorrow, so I won't get to play much again until Sunday...  hopefully I'll get far enough on Sunday to get the flight option and then my life will finally be complete. :P

Gredler

Wow it really opened up a lot last night after finishing the third mission. I got a ton of quests now and I think the addiction is real. It's been a long time since I was urged to get home and play a game like this, it's gotten perpetually more enoyable

Yeah, after the third mission they get rid of that darn green border preventing you from leaving Primordia, and you can swim all the way to Cauldros if you want.

In other news: man, do I ever suck at golf.  I got a lot better on the back nine, but even a birdie wasn't enough to save my terrible score. :P

Thanks for that.

Just in the  middle of doing Chapter 5.  I love the night time slow groove music of Oblivia plains.  It along with the music played in the BLADE barracks has a 70's retro feel to the music.
