This is really helpful; kudos to everyone involved in writing and/or finding these FAQs.

Most gamers I come across online feel that if an RPG is in Japanese and you don't know the language, there's no point in even bothering with it because, according to them, it would be impossible to have any fun with it. Personally, that's never been the case for me. Even though I know very, very little Japanese (basically I can read katakana when it's representing English, which helps a ton for video games, and I can recognize a handful of native words in hiragana and kanji), I've played through many text-heavy games in Japanese, including some of my very favorite games. I can't claim to understand the plot completely, but I don't feel completely in the dark either. There's a lot you can pick up outside of the text. Maybe the big difference between me and many other RPG players is that, despite that I really love the genre, I still place gameplay above story, unlike so many other RPG fans. I love a good battle system and exploring interesting dungeons, and I will gladly accept missing out on some story for the opportunity to enjoy that. So that's why I'm always really thankful for people who write walkthroughs for text-heavy Japanese games for people who don't know the language.

You're just like I am. After I picked up F'uun Kabuki Den and damn near beating it (and accidently erasing just when I got to the final dungeon), I got much braver and started tackling the other ones that I had.

Thanks for this thread. It'll greatly help me with Kabuki Den (which I ordered thinking it was Kabuki Klash).

Follow blueraven's guide to get started, then switch to this one from the turbolist for the rest of the game.  It's rather vague, but it was enough for me to beat the game with zero moonrune skills.
Yeah, just found the turbolist archives, and downloaded everything there, stuff like that needs to be preserved. Man I miss that thing, god I think that list started before I was even in college. God I feel old. Thanks for the info.

If you'll excuse me I'm going to ride this wave of nostalgia for a minute. (I wonder if the archives for the list still exist?)

Mathius

Are there any resources anywhere which lists the commands for 3X3 Eyes? I am trying to love that game but it's Japanese isn't loving me back.

You can add my dungeon explorer II FAQ I posted on gamefaqs years ago, since most people can't afford the American Version these days it might be a good pick. I'm on my phone so I can link it eight now. Username greedostick on gamefaqs

These need a small update. The Emerald Rocker walk-throughs have had their account suspended.

Emerald, did you totally lose the UnlimitedZigWorks site? I really enjoyed going there. Everything was always well written and entertaining.

I clicked on the link in the first post to find a guide for Anearth Fantasy Story, but the result was not what I expected.

Somebody made a backup of the guide ?

The web archive has a backup :

Don't sweat it, the search function is kinda strange on here, so if things are bumped in the first few pages it's easy to miss these things.
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Mathius

Ruinruder, I hope your still around, brudda. It would be smart for you to edit that link as malware/virus alarms went off in my mind when I saw where that link leads to now. It looks like the original Anerth walkthrough has been archived so easy fix.

Or at least maybe can Necro can snip it .  anyway I think Ruin checks here every once in a while.

Yeah that too.  :)
I haven't talked to Runin in years and I miss our conversations. The Duomazov Bros have been dormant since 2014 as well. The net misses you! *sobs*

Quote from: guest on February 02, 2018, 09:31:51 AMYowza, that was a bad one.  Normally I'd give the OP a chance to update on their own, but not when it's going to porn city.

I too miss runin.  I wish he'd post here more and/or make some new reviews for the Bros. (where's Hatris?!?), but I'm thankful for what we got; it's pretty fucking awesome and covers a huge chunk of the library.
Is there any way to resuscitate a thread that has been deleted? The thread here at pcefx that ultimately became the impetus for Duomazov had so much great stuff in it... I asked Runin if he had an archive of it (he didn't)

...wouldn't it be awesome if the forum software retains everything in database, even deleted threads?

Quote from: guest on February 02, 2018, 11:04:18 AMAs far as I know, when anything is deleted it's gone for good.  The only way it could be restored is if it's on a full site backup, which surely wouldn't still be saved this many years later.
So, if, by some chance, Aaron Nanto has a backup circa ________ (prior to deletion), then it might be preserved...and there would have to be a safe way to retrieve it.

STILL, this gives me hope.

I'm weird. I like to dig down to the first Duomazov review (Deep Blue btw) and chronologically read each one via day of publication. I've done it like three times which takes several weeks. Reviews I wouldn't normally read cross my path and in doing that I discover games I wouldn't normally be interested in.

Ha! That's awesome. I never considered reading everything chronologically, but that is an interesting way to do it.

Also, although three (?) reviewers exist, aren't 99% by runin?

I just realized that it's been a long time since I've been to the site!

Tsavathay

would anyone be able to provide a resource to help complete the final tower stage in Legend of Xanadu?  I'm stuck on statue 30 and can't get passed to the final two statues/areas.
Any info is appreciated.

NightWolve

Maybe wait up for the English fan translation projects to wrap up which is nearly reality ?? I would guess you got stuck because some tip or clue needed to progress was provided in Japanese. I'd wait for the English patches and then start over.

Oh, looks like elmer already told you this last year. Heh. Not in the mood to wait any longer huh ?

As for guides, seems blueraven made one for the forum, appears plenty of work went into it. If you read further down, Keranu addresses one of the areas you get stuck at and he does beat the game. That mindrec FAQ though is no longer available which addressed later parts of the game.

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=11171.0

One other FAQ option was found by SamIAm, it's Japanese but he suggests a machine translation by your browser might be sufficient.
