12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

OK, so we pretty much all know that Sonic CD for the SEGA CD got a different soundtrack when it was released over here. If you need to know more, here's the Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_CD

Now then here's some examples of the differences in the soundtracks. These are my favorite songs, and ones that I think show the most difference, in my opinion. So don't get mad if your favorite wasn't chosen. ;)

INTROS:
USA - http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/7218/1
Japan - http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1672/32

TIDAL TEMPEST - PRESENT:
USA - http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/7218/9
Japan - http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1672/8

COLLISION CHAOS - PRESENT:
USA - http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/7218/6
Japan - http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1672/5

If you still need to decide more, here are the complete soundtracks:
USA - http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/7218
Japan - http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1672

For the record, I think that the Japanese soundtrack has catchier melodies than the sparse, generic US version. But it's not about what I think. What do YOU think!?
Forgive me, my brain is on par with the Bubble System.

I voted US because the opening intro song kicks much more ass than the JP version :P

Kitsunexus

Could you say that about the ENTIRE soundtrack? Or just one song?

I don't like either. They should've gone in the same vein as Sonic 2 - the best soundtrack in the world.

hmmm I'm quite partial to Sonic 3D: flickies island on the Saturn sound track.. but nothing beats the cheese-fest joyous beats and vocals of Sonic R!!!

oh btw I like the USA version of the Sonic CD

Meh~ the intro sound track nullifies the comparison between the other tracks. "Sonic Boom - Sonic Boom..."

Neither one is really all that much better than the other, just different.  Either way, I'm glad that the TG-16 lacked Blast Processing and didn't inundate us with lame ass lyrics (very often, anyway).

Blast Processing wasn't responsible for the lyrics.  Instead both it and the high mega power were responsible for the high-octane super-speed next-generation gameplay that the Genesis offered.

Any game starring Victor Ireland usually had a horribly sung song with awful lyrics, and I think that extended over into the TurboGrafx.

Actually, I think that the TG-16 narrowly escaped VI lyrics (Cosmic 3 has a title song), but it did get stuck with a VI'esque poem in DEII performed by the master himself.  :P
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Cosmic Fantsy 2 had a credits VI song.  I know the lyrics were pretty bad, but the song itself was nealry tolerable.  I don't know if VI wrote any other songs for the Turbo.

Victor Ireland is an elitist otaku dick who makes too many "funny" Americanizations,  but he does pick  some good musicians, and he's generous with pack-ins, so I don't COMPLETELY hate him.

I'm a fan of Spencer Nilsen -- Ecco CD rocks. However, while I enjoy his Sonic CD soundtrack, I think it was simply not necessary to ask him to compose an entirely new score. The Japanese one perfectly suited the game, and I can only imagine it was changed because of obscure copyright issues.

Kitsunexus

Yeah, kinda like what happened with Sonic Spinball (the proto and some early shipped carts have the official 16-bit Sonic theme, however they didn't license the song from Dreams Come True, so it was replaced).

I didn't have a problem with Sonic CD's music. It sounded extra CD like and was a good way to stress the difference from a cart game.

When I finally got the Mega-CD version, I was disappointed because the soundtrack didn't seem so special and I was expecting more Sonic sounding music.

I think that most people who have a problem with it are influenced by the perception forced down our throats by game mags for years that we got cheated somehow. Like how some people feel that any kind of localization other than a boringly accurate script translation is sacrilege.

I heard the Japanese soundtrack first (via the screensaver on the Sonic 3 and Knuckles PC CD-ROM), so that's what I like better, I think it's mostly what we get used to.

Seldane, how/why did Victor Ireland steal your camera?  I demand you tell us the story... OR ELSE!
