Anyone here into video editing? I want to get into it, but I don't know where or how to start. What are some good softwares or hardwares I should look into? I have both pc and mac.

I use Ulead Video Studio 9, it's decent, but I haven't tried much video editing software. I hope to get a good VHS editing set up some day though!

Professional studios used AVID, but I don't know if they're around anymore...

Final Cut Pro kicks ass.  It's what I use professionally and personally.  Just finished up an Xtreme Unicycle video, in fact!  Final Cut Pro isn't something you can just step into and figure everything out, though.  I don't know what to recommend to beginners,.

I still use master tapes and Jog/Shuttle wheels!!!  I have to plug the titler in between my decks but BEFORE the mixer.  I'm old school.

If you want to get into video editing, then get a mac+Final Cut Pro (if you're serious about this). Final Cut Pro is great, but more advance projects will require additional apps. Adobe After Effects(pro version) is a great companion to FCP. FCP will run you about $1000, AE pro about $900, and a new Mac $2000-$3000?

Oh and if you pickup some porn editing jobs... just make up a name for the credits ;)

What if you're not serious about it and just want a neat little app to splice together some video clips?

I don't want to spend any money, but I'm interested in throwing together a quick little short that would be Turbo-related.

Some fundamental editing ability would be a must. But again, I'm not looking to buy any software (especially not something costing $1000) for a one-time use. Freeware is my friend.

Seriously, Avid is a dinosaur now.  We used Adobe Premier for a while but now it's FCP.  If you just want to slap some shit together, imovie is actually a decent choice.  Although if you don't have it pre-installed I don't know what it would cost.  If you're just doing one small project, download a trial version or something.

Does anyone know if iMovie comes with the newest version of the MacOS? I'll be buying a new Mac soon so I'm just curious. I can hold off on my "project" until then if it does.

I believe that all new Macs come with iMovie preinstalled.  I am quite the whiz at Final Cut Pro and After Effects, but iMovie confuses the hell out of me.  I can't figure it out at all!  But then again most people who know iMovie tell me that Final Cut Pro seems complicated and makes no sense to them.

Speaking of editing, has anybody seen that new Youtube Remixer? It's an EXTREMELY crippled version of Adobe Premiere, and it SUCKS.

I use Ulead Video Studio 6 and 9.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

When I was in college, I used 16mm B/W and color film on an old Steinbeck. If I wanted sound, I have to add reels of magnetic tape. That, my friends, is old skool. :) And yes, for rough cuts, I used a splicer and tape!

At home, my wife and I still have 8mm splicers, viewers, projectors, etc.

The cost of purchasing / developing film is insane, though. :)

oh yes..comparing then and now, the digital age gives you such great possibilties, that even some jerks easy can make light saber battles on their PCs/MACs, which are looking far way better than the originals back in time, which never could be payed by ordinary mortals then:
