As Nat just shockingly revealed on shout-

[Wed 11:42] <nat> i've never been to white castle

I've decided to start a thread for this poor, poor man- where we can bring the sizzling sliders straight to him.
These are 'on the house' nat.  Enjoy.

and this particular White Castle's always open-

Nat sounds like a lucky guy.

They call them sliders for a reason...worst burger on Earth...runs through you like a Ferrari.

Had 'em once when my buddies and I went to Indianapolis.  They are the most disgusting burgers I've ever tasted in my life.  :-#

The bun was drenched in the fat & all soggy and shit -- My friends and I all thought they goofed, but this was a "feature" according to their posters, where the "juices" & the flavor runs into the buns.

Run like hell from those burgers.

Talking about burgers, goddamn, I miss those west coast burgers. Islands, Tommy's, In-n-Out...  Mmmmm =P~

nat

I have to admit I was a little excited when I first saw this thread, but after reading some of these fine folks' anecdotes, I'm now a tad wary of the White Castle.

That pile looks both appetizing and disgusting all at the same time.

Nazi NecroPhile

I, too, have never sampled White Castles wares.  It doesn't look like I'm missing much.

me either.

I think there's a reason they've never expanded nationwide.

While us westcoast players don't have whitecastle restaraunts, we can buy frozen white castle burgers at the supermarket. I grabed some from smart n' final or albertsons, I don't remember. They were alright. The only reason I bought them was because of that movie, lol. If you want to try the slider, check out the freezer section at your local supermarket.  :)

The frozen ones can't be as good as the restaurant ones I'd wager.

Keranu

White Castles are awesome. You can't compare them to regular burgers because they are very different.

I'm pretty sure you're correct, but they have to tide me over till I can travel to the eastside.  =P~

Anyone had both that can give their input? If the restaurant ones are that much better than the frozen ones I will wait until I'm on the east coast in September. Otherwise I might have to try a store-bought batch.

Digi.k

wasn't white castles in saturday night fever movie ? :o

Those fries and beef burgers.. I can see the oil shimmering on them :o

Sinistron

The frozen ones are not as good.
My favorite are the jalapeno cheeseburgers.
White Castles are best when you're trashed at 3 in the morning and nothing else is open- then the leftovers make for an excellent hangover brunch the following afternoon.  They definitely "run right through you" - however the last two times I had White Castles this didn't happen.   :-k  I believe there's a secret combo that makes it not run right out of your ass minutes after you eat them.  Like two cheeseburgers, two jalapeno cheeseburgers, two chicken sandwiches, onion rings and soda.  Worked for me last time  :D.

Good for cleaning the booze out of the pipes, eh?  Sounds like a good breakfast coupled with a bloody mary (the drink, not the other thing).

White castle was started in Wichita, Kansas which is where I am and yet we don't have any here, how ironic.

You exactly answered what I was going to say. The Jalapeno White Castles are heaven in a bun. The frozen White Castles are decent from what I recall, but yeah not as good and fresh as the real stuff.

COUNT SMRIFNACK

I've never been to White Castle (I live in Texas :x) but I eat the hell out of the frozen ones.  I remember seeing them in the grocery store and wanting them when I was like 9 or 10yo cause of the The Beastie Boys mentioning them on Licence To Ill.  I still have my wife grab a box or two of them every month or so.

Tell me about it.  All this talk makes me want to try one.  Next time at the grocery store I will look for the frozen ones.

So according to the Beastie Boys.... White Castle fries only come in one size.

Is this true? :-k

Sinistron

I believe you can get a regular, a large, and most recently a "sack" as in "a sack of sides".  The large I believe comes in the same size container as the fried clam strips and the large mozzarella sticks.

Jitawa

The frozen ones barely taste like the ones you get at the restaurant.

They're different than most because they're steamed, which is kinda odd for a hamburger.

If you live in the south, Krystal's burgers are probably the closest thing to it you can find:
http://www.krystal.com/
Also square, also steamed.  They look and taste very similar.  Both have been around forever... I think white castle is older though.

In-N-Out is better, so is Whataburger if you want an actual hamburger.

A friend of mine just went on vacation and told me about the Krystal burgers- they sound good to me- as I like a spot of mustard on my burgers- which no fast food chain does in NY.

I've been to Krystals once or twice before. Pretty much the same as White Castle, but I thought it was interesting that the last time I went there (maybe around 1998), they were advertising Eek! The Cat toys  . That's a redneck version of White Castle for 'ya.

Why don't they use mustard in NY? Out here in the Chicago area mustard is ok, but some resteraunts will refuse to put ketchup on a good Chicago dog  [-X .

I don't know really- but it's funny- there's so many fools here who have never had mustard on a hamburger before because they'd never think to do it- because they've never gotten it like that in a fast food chain (I can't think of a single fast food chain in NY that puts mustard on the hamburgers).  I remember when I was little the first time I'd had a hamburger at on out-of-state McDonald's and there was mustard on it- it was so strange to me.  I loved it.  Now I put everything on my burgers- ketchup, mayo, mustard, A1- good stuff.

Oh man, I never really thought about this. I remember as a youngster getting McDonald's all the burgers always had mustard. In recent years, now that I think about it, I'm realizing maybe they stopped doing the mustard thing at some point? That's odd, I never really noticed when that happened.

MurderDate

yeah and they stopped putting those gristley grey specks in the chicken nuggets!!  wtff!??

They are pretty good -- although living on the left coast I've never had a "real one".

Of course, when I say "they are pretty good", what I really mean is that someone with standards as low as mine would begrudgingly eat one if no better alternatives were available.

I wish I had one right now.
