Anime and movie dubbing sucks - POLL

Just my opinion here, but I find people that can't stand subtitles to be ignorant and lazy with their excuses such as It's distracting!, or I can't pay attention to the movie that way!

This does not apply to group mentality, nor children or the elderly that can't read that well or have a tough time following due to age or learning. I'm talking about normal people that are perfectly capable of reading the subs, but won't. Especially girls that whine.

This also does not apply to anime or foreign movies that are in English originally, like Blood: The Last Vampire, where the anime has both Japanese and English scenes in the same movie, so it's not a 100% Japanese or 100% English dub; majority English language.

The ONLY dubbing I can stand on anything really, is anything Ghost in the Shell related (the voices ACTUALLY fit the characters), and Akira, which I will watch dubbed, but I prefer subbed. I still prefer Ghost in the Shell subbed, but I'm completely content watching it dubbed as well. I prefer anything I watch to be in it's original language with no exceptions.


I'm voting option 1, as the 2nd option does not encompass the extent of what I mentioned about Ghost in the Shell and Akira above; these 2 items are a VERY small percentage of what is out there, and doesn't even hit 1% on any scale.

Am mixed on this really as i have watched so pretty bad dubbing over the years but i have seen some good dubbing too.

So am in the middle on this one.

First of all, definitely subtitles, especially for movies.

For animes, if you understand the language, you'll find that most Japanese dubbing sound just as retarded as the English counterpart.

Hokuto no Ken, DBZ, and others are better in their natural languages, but most of my hate for dubbing comes from post-2000 shit.

Hearing the original voices in any movie helps me enjoy it a bit more mainly because I cannot detect the bad acting which is so apparent in English dubs.

Agreed! There is also a lot more anime post-2000 though, so keep that in mind. A lot more variety adds to a lot more shit in the pot.

Yeah, so true. Especially titles that they are originally supposed to be in Chinese...it is just overall bad dubbed into English.
Then again movies originally in English dubbed into Japanese, are rather odd ones.

If both languages sound okay, then it doesn't matter.  However, if a dub sounds bad and is not intended to be a comedy, then it is subs for me.

I also agree that the dub elites who refuse to watch an anime in its original language with subs need to pull their head out of their ass and realize that just because you're reading subs doesn't mean it will detriment from the quality of the anime as a whole.  It's not about cultural consistency, it's about quality.

I voted for #2.  I don't mind the dubbed version of Inuyasha.  They did a good job matching the voices.

Richard Ian Cox doesn't get as much respect as he deserves.  I personally thought he was great as Inuyasha! Maybe people are just still holding it against the guy because he ended up being the replacement voice for male Ranma in Ranma 1/2.
