UFC has added too many rules. I loved UFC but I lost interest when they started having timed rounds. There used to be no time limits.

Also, I think the commissioner's treatment of Anderson Silva is rediculous and smacks of racism. It's on the rest of the fighters to step up their game and knock Silva off his throne. I think it's fine if the commissioner doesn't like Silva's antics, but to threaten banishment over it is rediculous. I think that instead he should express his disdain for Silva by commenting on it and even taking sides publicly and supporting opponents of Silva, but not by threatening to banish him.

Agreed, UFC is cool but with all the new rules it's almost like watching boxing.  Too many rest holds and fighters measuring each other.

When they add steel chairs and people falling off of cages to UFC, I'll pay closer attention!  lol

UFC only has the rules in order to get sanctioned by the athletic commissions and actually turn it into a legit sport.  Without those few added rules, it could never have gone mainstream like it did.

After you made your first post on UFC I looked into some of that stuff. You're right, it was a response to government pressure and also helped the UFC become more mainstream. In the late 90s, the UFC tapes were readily available at places like blockbuster video for rent, and everyone I knew in  highschool knew about UFC already, but I do agree with you that UFC has become bigger by going mainstream.

One thing about it though is that the uniformity and the rules seem a bit overboard. For one, I think weight classes are lame. Back in the day smaller guys beat bigger guys all the time... Royce Gracie vs Dan Severn being one of the most spectacular, along with others. Another thing I don't like is the uniformity of the fight gear. Everyone needs to wear shorts and gloves, whereas in the past there was more variety.
