Turbo-Fest 2010

Hey Guys,

for all of those who live near the Chicagoland area, I coridially invite you all to an event that I will be hosting called Turbo-Fest. We will have dozens of T-16 games available for free play. Best of all, there will be T-16/PC Engine tournaments throughout. The featured games will be Battle Lode Runner, Bomberman 94 and R-Type. The winner of each tournament not only gets to take home a Turbo-Fest t-shirt, but also a copy of Chris Bucci's Turbo Views that he generously donated to us. It would be great if you guys could make it. Here is our site.

The event will take place July 17th in Lombard, IL at the Heron Point Convention Center. The address is 665 W. North Ave in Lombard. It is in the same parking zone as the Fairfield Inn. Turbo Fest is part of a retro-gaming convention called the Video Game Summit. There will be many people selling retro games and many other tournaments for other consoles as well. Arcades will also be present. This is the website to the Video Game Summit.

Admission is $3, but the price is well worth the admission. Entrance into our tournaments is 100% free. There is no profit in it for us as we don't make a dime off of this. We are just trying to share our passion for this system. We would love to meet fellow T-16 enthusiasts such as yourselves.

It's a Saturday, so if you're in the general area it won't require a day off for most people who work a M-F type job.

That is good to hear Hoobs. The Video Game Summit is from 11 AM till 6 PM. Turbo-Fest will be there the whole time. The tournament times for Turbo-Fest are as follows:

12 PM: Battle Lode Runner
2 PM: Bomberman 94
4 PM: R-Type

It's our very first appearance at the VGS. Lots of excitement is planned for the day.

In unrelated Turbo News, video game champions, Paul Zimmerman and Andy Breyer, will attempt to break the world record for the 7800 version of Asteroids for Twin Galaxies at the Video Game Summit (tentatively planned).

I heard about you guys. The guy who does Jagfest, who is also the promoter of the Video Game Summit, said that a of couple guys used to do a Turbo Fest at the MGC a few years back. He was the one that suggested the name "Turbo Fest." Very interesting. Just curious, what type of activities did you guys do at these Turbo Fests?

It wasn't anything too extravogant. All we really did was have a bunch of Turbo systems and games on display (Turbo Duo, PCE+CDROM2, PC-FX, Super Grafx, Turbo Express). Me and one of the coders here (tomaitheo / Bonknuts) made a special Pong demo for the 2008 fest called Turbo Pong . If you're able to get in touch with tom, he may be able to make a 2010 edition (we had a bunch of ideas to add to it, but didn't have enough time to implement them).

Definitely going to look into coming to the VGS!

Thanks for those pics Keranu. They are fantastic! I would love to showcase a 2010 version of Turbo Pong. I would appreciate if you could give me Tom's contact info.

One of my buddies is actually taking apart a SFIV arcade stick and transforming it so it will become compatible with the T-16. He is even putting a button on each side for some mad pinball action! It is coming along real well from what I heard. I will post pics of it later on. He is going to bring it along so that we can showcase it.

This is how far he has gotten at this point. The Turbografx PCB is all soldered up, he just needs to wire it in with the PS3 board. Then he'll start on a wood case after this.

We will have regular controllers, Turbo Sticks, a Python 4 controller and possibly this arcade stick available for use. But you are more than welcome to bring your own controller. Each match is going to have 5 players on-screen. It is going to be awesome

We will be playing on a Turbografx+Super CD unit.

I am pleased to see how all of you guys like the stick thus far. We really appreciate the feedback.

The run and select buttons will be on the back next to where the cord will come out. He didnt picture that area because he didnt put the buttons in yet. There are just holes in that spot.

All I can say is that my friend is a wizard at what he does. He can take any piece of junk and turn it into a hot rod.  But don't take my word for it, come to the show and test them out for yourselves. He might be open to selling some of his sticks.

In comparison, how big is this show compared to other 'classic gaming shows'?  Like MGC.
