Depends on whose prices you're looking at. On ebay, $150 gets you a loose PCE Duo (not R/RX) with no guarantee of working. It's very hard to find a reliable U.S. Duo. Considering the work you put in and the aftermarket components, I'd say that your $150 price would be a very attractive "community discount." Whatever you charge, make sure you're being compensated for your time and expense in a sustainable way. You've invested a lot of time learning how to solder and making capacitor charts; other people choose to play Xbox, get drunk, or pursue careers. Your services are a real asset and it's better to charge fair prices for premium work than give a few good deals and burn out.

Very true! It takes me about 4-5 hours to fix up a Duo properly. I usually pay $50 - $80 for broken units plus $25 for a laser. I don't make a killing but I get something for the time and effort. And its satisfying to help people out. Also the more working systems there are out there the cheaper they should become..in theory...

I have been watching Duos on egay on and off for the past 2 years. Average actually sells for around 300. If someone has one for a more reasonable amount I would be more than willing to buy it. This stack of games I cant play is disheartening.

I could see a US Duo selling for $300 CIB, especially on eBay, but for a loose system that hasn't had the caps replaced, that's kind of reaching, IMHO. But if someone wants to pay that much for one, then great. Patience will bring the opportunity to buy a cheaper one, though.

well i dont get it?... if the average is $300 on ebay for the last 2 years why have you not bought? Instead you come here and offer the same amount to a new guy you dont know that you have no security in buying from?.... <<scratches head>>

Also people do get loud at times about prices and new people coming on quoting ebay... as this is the last f@cking place we try to make a stand on what prices should be.... why are others NOT paying $300 for systems like this on here?

yeah i have seen threads get a lot worse too... and no i didn't offer 300+, but we were talking through pm before tggodfrey made the offer. so maybe Zaki decided to sell to him instead.

In response ot Sparky, I havent bought becuase i keep hoping i will get one cheaper. I am cheap ass the same as anyone else. I didnt realize he was a new member and thats my fault. Shame on me. I wouldnt be too upset to give my money to someone here as opposed to giving it to some idiot on ebay but I dont see many Duo's go for sale long here. By the time I see them, seems like they are sold. I suppose i should have just posted a WTB ad since posting what I "think" they are selling for is so bad. My appologies.

Every other forum I have been on and even run, ebay prices are the average. Didnt think you guys were any different.

While I can't say this with %100 certainty, I'm convinced that any US Duo that hasn't been refurbished is going to need it pretty damned soon. All the black Duos, US and Japan, just seem to end up with all sorts of issues (usually audio) from the leaking caps.

This refurbishing work can be done by some forum member here for less than minimum wage on his part, but from a professional electronics store you're probably looking at a few hundred in labor bills.

Therefore a sight-unseen, never repaired US Duo (bugger the box) is worth essentially negative dollars unless you have it repaired by some crazy philanthropic mofo like BlueBMW. In that case...why not just buy the damned system from him in the first place?

Or, of course, a Duo R.

That being said, I agree about the Duo-R. But the original Duo is definitely cooler-looking.

I guess this is just me, but a few hours labor is worth more than a stupid box, even if it's my own labor.
