White TurboGrafx-16?

So all the US Turbos are black in color, and most of the Japanese PC Engines are white (with the exception of the GT, Core Grafx II and the original Duo). But, what would a US TurboGrafx-16 look like if colored white?

I have a spare TG-16 and CD docking station, and I believe Keith Courage has a few PCE CD drives still availible... see where I'm going with this? Would it be considered blasphemous to paint a TG-16 console and docking station white and add the PCE CD drive to it for a different look? I'd probably leave the "fins", the logo, and the power button on the main TG-16 console black just for some contrast.

Thoughts? Anyone done something like this?

That would be the hard part. Also, matching the PCE CD drive color would certainly be difficult.

Doesn't Plasti-Dip make a white color? That would be the easiest way to do a matte white finish I'd think. And if it didn't turn out well, just peel it off.

Enamel or an epoxy would be a very hard and strong finish.  Satin finish I think would be a good starting point.

I believe someone on here repainted their SGX (blue I think), may be worth looking it up for dos and don'ts.

Yeah, if I recall, he might have had it powder coated, rather than painting it at home.

Powdercoating is done at 500*F........cant powdercoat plastic.

It's easier to repaint a white CD drive black. The only pain is having to take everything out of the CD casing in order to do it. Also to make everything black you end up painting over the play, stop, and track skip buttons. Looks kind of cool keeping them white though so that part is personal preference. Plus the rear I/O port still ends up being white. A good candidate for this is a really yellowed CD drive.

Arkhan Asylum

I had a maroon one someone painted years ago

Then I sprayed it chrome

Then, it broke (Fuse inside or something, IIRC), so I think OldMan ripped it apart to make something out of.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

That is one crazy collection of stuff there.

As for the original question, I think maybe it could look pretty good. You'd have to figure out what to do with the logo. It would be easy to mask, but those goofy Halloween colors won't match as well.

And know, I don't think its blasphemous. The TG-16 is the easiest to find, least desired, least valuable, cheapest PCE variant there is. The world won't miss it.

Separate the case, scrub the hell out of it with soap and water, soak it in something like Westley's Bleche White. Prime with Tamiya Fine Primer W, paint with a satin white from Krylon or whoever.

J'ACCUSE: I take umbrage to your disparaging remarks concerning the TG-16. TG-16's should not be molested and violated. Nurture them. Love them. They will blossom, and their beauty will be outrageous.

LE COMPROMISE: The BEST candidates for "makeovers" (as someone--KeithCourage?--adeptly pointed out earlier) are consoles that have faded/yellowed/"gone sour"/etc. Aesthetically tarnished consoles are the best candidates!

NO, TG-16 & kin do not inherently fall into said category! How dare you! :pcds:

I think an all white Tg16 cd with the skip and play buttons being swapped out to black ones would look way dope! Custom paint that Tg16 !!
Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

You're going to want to use vinyl dye. It goes a few millimetres into the plastic, doesn't just simply cover it up like paint, so it won't chip.

I've seen someone use it on a yellowed Famicom, with outstanding results:

Im gonna stop by the home depot this weekend to get some white plasti-dip just to try it out and see how it looks. If i like the results, I'll make it more permanent

Deletion

If my attempt at whitening a PCE and CD-ROM2 had produced poor results, my fall back plan was to paint both units white. I found the PC Engine and CD-ROM2 logos online and was either going to make templates and paint them on or create decals and stick them on. So I would have no qualms painting a TG-16. In fact I would love to try it myself.

I've painted an original gray PlayStation and an indigo GameCube white and they look great. I used Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter primer (found at auto parts stores), Krylon Fusion paint, and Krylon Fusion clear coat.

That's interesting. I'd like to learn more about "vinyl dye", however I seriously doubt it's going to make a black TG-16 white. That's probably asking too much of anything that isn't opaque.

that vinyl dye on the famicom looks amazing!  i'll definitely be doing this to mine.

the only reason I wouldn't do this to PCE is to preserve the logos, it just wouldn't be the same without them.

Guess one can't mask them?

masking is possible, but I feel that it would be so easy (for me) to screw that up.
