This. Which is why I still say the Wii U was the best (ie: most fun) console of the most recent generation.
My family and I got a Wii U at launch and we've played it more than any console in a long time. My daughter in particular regularly goes back to play Super Mario 3D World.

One of the stretch goals should be an easter egg video of Esteban doing a turbo dooble hidden on the disk. I'm sure pledges would sky rocket.

Quote from: Desh on 09/09/2016, 09:30 AMThen it hit me. F consoles! I'm just going to buy a nice powerful computer that will handle games at least for the next few years.
This is really the correct answer at this point in time. Just make sure you don't get a Windows Botnet Edition machine.
Dat DX12 dough........

Modern consoles are just PC gaming for the masses. With off the shelf hardware backwards compatibility will always exist. If you bought a graphics card 3 or 4 years ago you would not complain about a new one coming out. This is literally the same thing.

Joe mentioned twice about Gamesack coming to an end, is that a scheduled thing or was he just joking?

Ok, just backed the physical copy. Looking forward to trying this out.

I'm not interested, but this is still a great raffle. Thumbs up.

Quote from: Mathius on 08/27/2016, 11:44 PMI have the Wii U version and playing it with the Plus controller makes it IMO the definitive version. Great level design seems to be a fading skill in newer 2D games but SK is an exception. Mighty #9 should've paid more attention to this game.
The 2 player mode on the Wii U is actually a lot of fun. It was a good addition to an already good game. If this game has 8bit+ graphics, I'd like to see a sequel with 16 bit+ graphics.

Quote from: NightWolve on 08/22/2016, 11:09 PMNice! I've been waiting for the next sale to grab on it on Steam myself. Don't ever see myself getting a PS4 (but I'll have to borrow one some time).
Thanks! I was actually pretty shocked to see it on the shelf; normally small-run games (at least I assume it is) don't show up for sale in the middle of a tourist area. After talking to a few folks in chat, I went back the next day and it was sitting in the window so I snatched it up. Happy with my inaugural PS4 purchase!
Well, the $9.99 sale I was waiting for came around, but from GOG, not Steam, so I finally bought it!

Get ready for justice, shovel justice!! :)

For Windows PC, it's a 150 MB DirectX game that works fine so far with my USB game pad and Windows 7 64-bit system. It just needed to upgrade the DirectX and VC++ runtimes though.
I bought it on sale from GoG awhile back, it's such a good game. I always try purchase DRM free whenever possible. They have some other 8bit retro style game called Oniken onsale for $1.50 at the moment.

In my small town of <10k people it was non-existent. I remember seeing it for sale at EB in a neighboring city, but I dont remember seeing it at TRU. That could have to do with my age, I would have been 9 in 1989. I got my first TG16 from a garage sale. I don't remember when it was, but I do know it was during the 16bit era. I read a ton of gaming magazines in the grocery store while my mom shoppes and I always wanted one. Primarily I remember seeing Bonk commercials on TV.

Yeah, I've decided I'm gonna take the distraction and beat it after I build up my new Windows installation, copy over all my legacy work/music/game folders, install my usual favorite software, etc.

Went ahead and upgraded from Vista 32-bit after ~8 years on this old AMD Triple-Core 2.1 GHz PC workhorse to...Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Finally got it stable, it was tough to get all the hundreds of Microsoft patches installed at once, had crashes doing it, unknown failures, even the update agent gets broken after a clean install of Win 7 Service Pack 1 which required much research on what patch to find to fix it...

Anyway, I tried the game again on my new set up, worked with no problems whatsoever. Felghana crashes (but that's on me, I can probably fix it), Ys VI works (both DirectX8-9 games), Ys I & II Complete which are older DirectX5 games have palette problems no matter what compatibility settings you try though.
I've been toying with putting Ubuntu on an old AMD Athlon X2 pc I have.

I really like the aesthetics of the game, but I'm definitely taking the wait and see approach. Since it has a pulp sci fi look it would have been cool to include a cheesey pulp story to go with it.
#167
I'll give it a try thanks.

I found a video on youtube where someone flashs a rom for this exact board. I just dont want to buy all the stuff to fix someone elses game, when I have no use for it on anything else.
#169
Instead of more raffles we need more waffles just sayin

So I'm not sure where to post this, but a friend of mine has a RotJ arcade that is giving an error code. Basically it says the the rom pictured is bad. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could possibly flash a new one for me( my friend really) in exchange for a bit of bread. Thanks.

I recently bought a raspberry pi 3 and it was really easy to setup with retropi. Them emulation works quite well, although I haven't been able to really put it through the paces. I never played a lot of arcade games growing up so I probablly wouldn't know if they were poorly emulated if it wasnt something that is completely obvious. If you want to stream then a PC will probably be your best bet. MAME on PC can emulate the CRT feel better although it takes a lot of work to get it right. Lastly, you have to get the correct romset for the version of MAME you want to use. It is not like other emulators in that regard. The internet archive acrually hosts MAME torrents btw.

There is a road near my home that used to be called Jap Lane and a just a few years ago the town got all politically correct and changed the name.

Edit: I hate all forms of licorice and anyone who does. I guess that explains why my dad and I don't get along.

For me learning about the games and what they play on is part of the joy. Digging around yahoo.jp and then looking the games up on pcengine.co.uk is both entertaining and educational.

I went to see the Warcraft movie today. I've never been a fan of any of the Warcraft games, but I found the movie to be entertaining. It's not high brow cinema by any means, but it's better than the reviewers make it out to be.

Reading through this thread I wanted to recommend Gate of Thunder, then I looked it up on Ebay. Damn.

P.S. GoT is possibly the best shooter ever made. IMO of course.
#179
I had a few of these as a kid, I loved playing with them.
#180
I'm not a big fan of the art style, not that its bad, I just don't like it as much as the style of the Monster Boy game. I'm definitely interested in seeing how this turns out.
#181
I don't post too much because I really don't have a lot to say, but damn am I getting worked up for these games to be released in English. Something about following along with it just draws me in. Keep up the good work! =D>

I would love to see the PCE Snatcher translated, but as a gamer it just makers much more sense to ask for Legend of the Wind ;) to get translated vs. A game that I could already play if I wanted too. It's not like it is Metal Gear for MSX vs. NES where there are significant differences.

Quote from: technozombie on 05/23/2016, 07:49 PMThe Konami Simpsons game would be cool and unlike TMNT there was no other ports. I loved playing it as a kid, although in hindsight it's mostly mediocre.

What I would really like to see, and probably doesn't count for this thread, is the NES version of Rygar upgraded with the arcade version's graphics
Mediocre maybe but still a whole lot of fun. The amount of 20p coins I stuck in a Simpsons machine at a holiday camp is unfathomable. Spent hours on that thing, it plays well. Prefer TMNT overall though.
I grew up in a small town without any arcades so when I did get a chance to go to the neighboring town to play, I absolutely loved the game. Of course as a child I didn't have enough quarters to find out how repetitive the game is, particularly in the reusue of sprites, but then again Xmen is the same way.

There is one of these in my area. It's a nice store. When they first opened about 2 years ago I could find some pretty good deals, but now their prices are in line with eBay and sometimes more if they know it will sell.

I only got to spend a few minutes with Android Assault, but it started off as very inferior to GoT
#187
Picked up this stuff at Retropalooza Houston on Saturday.

Nice deal for those who hadn't yet got the game.

This box really doesn't seem practical. Why not just build one that would accept rgb/scart/jp21 in addition to plugging directly into the system? It could be cheaper alternative to an xrgb mini.

If you put rca jacks for your component output you could use standard cables and you could probably keep RGB on the DIN and then you have the best of both worlds.

I wonder if Japan has retro game personalities that help drive prices? I mean watching GameCenter CX made me want Super Fanasy Zone.

I've always wanted to try voice acting, although I don't think I'll be good at it. I would like to try something where I would have to "change" my voice like trying to sound like an old man or something.
