Quote from: Bernie on 03/15/2013, 09:32 PMBeen pondering picking up Shinobi.  Is it worth it?
Quote from: Tatsujin on 03/15/2013, 09:32 PMIf you don't mind a complete lvl 2 missing, as well missing of the bonus stage and all power ups, then this game would be very great for you
Personally I'm very proud to have this, despite a great number of the missing content that Tatsujin speaks of. Usually I would turn my nose up at arcade ports when they're very lacking but I don't know what the driving force is behind making this an exception.

I'm an avid Instagram user and every Monday there would be "Manual Mondays", so I thought I'd slap in the stuff I had been posting.

"Kokujin804" is my name on it in case anyone wants to follow me.

Greatest Digi works that stick out in my mind:

While in New York City, got to hang out with Splattertrigger and Chris "TurboViews" Bucci, didn't last no longer than 20 minutes cause we had trains to catch out of the city in a short amount of time

Quote from: Aggie Tsubi on 11/18/2012, 02:15 PMThis is really helpful; kudos to everyone involved in writing and/or finding these FAQs.

Most gamers I come across online feel that if an RPG is in Japanese and you don't know the language, there's no point in even bothering with it because, according to them, it would be impossible to have any fun with it. Personally, that's never been the case for me. Even though I know very, very little Japanese (basically I can read katakana when it's representing English, which helps a ton for video games, and I can recognize a handful of native words in hiragana and kanji), I've played through many text-heavy games in Japanese, including some of my very favorite games. I can't claim to understand the plot completely, but I don't feel completely in the dark either. There's a lot you can pick up outside of the text. Maybe the big difference between me and many other RPG players is that, despite that I really love the genre, I still place gameplay above story, unlike so many other RPG fans. I love a good battle system and exploring interesting dungeons, and I will gladly accept missing out on some story for the opportunity to enjoy that. So that's why I'm always really thankful for people who write walkthroughs for text-heavy Japanese games for people who don't know the language.
You're just like I am. After I picked up F'uun Kabuki Den and damn near beating it (and accidently erasing just when I got to the final dungeon), I got much braver and started tackling the other ones that I had.

thanks y'all, lately I've been posting at the Renovation games group on Facebook, which is close enough to a forum and I admit it got me sidetracked from you guys

Even the final battle uses teh cowbell! The Epic-o-meter has ruptured! it even goes great with the background, scrolling at high speed as if the base is crumbling

During the mid 90's though, that particular Roses location was going alot harder on their arcade selection than now.

back then I've seen games come and go such as Legendary Wings, Final Fight, Gang Wars, Operation Thunderbolt, Jackal, and the DEVASTATORS!

Quote from: geise on 12/09/2011, 08:38 AMThey probably don't know what it's worth and would want a shit ton.  Haha or maybe they'll  be like $200 and it's yours.  Hmm...or it's rented from a company and you're shit out of luck.
It was rented. A sticker and a phone number on it right?

Interesting, you are whetting my appetite ope! I remember renting SaGa frontier once for PS1 and struggling with it, but want to give the series another shot.
Most SaGa music, the way they were written, you'd think you were playing Final Fantasy. The game play looks and moves like FF almost too.

Here's some of my favorite tunes in the RS series....

Saruin battle...(RS1)
Seven Heroes battle (RS2)
Field (RS3, the strings in this tune make it sound like it came out of Final Fantasy VI)
Four Devils Battle (RS3)

I stumbled across the mag at a "Booksamillion" store. I actually found a copy of the normal Retro Gamer mag there too a week ago. My girlfriend bought both for me since she is so cool. :)
Yeah there was some excellent articles about Strider, and an Operation Wolf master.

I think the use of the word shmup is pretty useful these days, in a world where the first things that come to people's minds is "Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo" when the word shooter is uttered. It weeds out who's your fellow fans too.
