The original seller did have some INSANELY rare paper listings, I will admit that.  I had a big bid on the Warrior Worlds and his other Turbo paper lot sold for $177.50.  Paper is one of those things that are sweet to collect but hard to resell unless you have connections to actual buyers.  At a $150 ebay BIN it will never sell.

Just saw an Impossimole manual on eBay for 8.99. Go snag it.

Quote from: guest on 04/21/2017, 09:13 AMIt doesn't really matter whether they buy on credit or spend every dime they have buying games, saving nothing for a rainy day.  The result is the same: eventually they are forced to sell to pay for something else.
Which means they couldn't afford and overspent to begin with.
Once again, those are the extremely tiny minority, the vast majority doesn't do that.  The amount of people who need to sell are typically the ones who got in recently, not the veterans who have been collecting a long time.

Speaking of, there was a guy who was selling a full TG16 CIB set on AtariAge a month ago.  I got in on it pretty quick and even I came away with only 3 games.  Simply because the guy has owned them for a decade (or longer), was only willing to sell at high end prices.  No discounts on multiple purchases and just a take it or leave it attitude.  He doesn't care if he takes them to the grave and he doesn't need the money.  Many more of the big collectors are similar to this line of thinking rather than the "need money gotta sell attitude!"

Just FYI but dude was taking a new job in April and probably won't take anymore orders for a long time, and most of the big titles already went.

I buy and sell a lot, and have done so for about 8+ years now.  From $10-$15 carts to $1000+ sealed across many platforms.  And believe me, when you talk about people buying things on credit, you are talking about a very miniscule amount of collectors.  I get more people saying "Hey can I pay on payday" (maybe ~5-10% of people I've dealt with) than people just financing it on credit.  So all of those assumptions regarding the crash are flat out wrong.

What you do get are life priorities that take place over collecting.  You get married, want to fund a honeymoon.  You have kids, need to convert game room to nursery.  You buy a house / sports car and need  a down payment etc.

Or, as we age, your kid goes to college and you see a $20K+ a year bill coming your way.  Or you have to pay for funerals of loved ones.  Etc.  But those are longer term impacts that shouldn't even be addressed now.

Since the overwhelming majority of this stuff is NOT bought on credit, you won't see an tremendous collapse of people selling stuff for pennies on the dollar.  Besides, not sure if you noticed, but if you list a bunch of like items at 0.99 auctions (which firesellers would have to do), they tend to do well and come damn near (or beat) BIN prices anyway.

I do think prices will taper off at some point as our generation ages and collecting shifts behind other life priorities, but expecting a full on collapse is wishful thinking.

I'm sure gynt was being sarcastic, but realistically the Air Zonk, Bomberman 93 and one CIB console should cover your cost basis for sure. Nice grab!

Quote from: gynt on 03/31/2017, 09:51 AMSURPRISE SURPRISE, they are BOTH in the chart as "sold".
These sites are bullshit.
So, because there are a small percentage of non-paying bidders out there, there can be no such thing as a pricing set?  That's what happens when you have algorithms that compile sold data.

Same thing if a "Complete" game sells with coverless manual or absolutely trashed box to bring the price down.  Or if a Gem Mint copy sells for twice the going rate.

Those sites are much better resources then some idiot on a forum complaining about how prices used to be and being out of touch with reality today.

Either way, most of it sold within 4 hours of posting so my prices were spot on again.  Find something else to complain about like you always do.

@Tbone, don't pay insertion fees...

You get 50 free listings a month, Final fees are 10% or 8% if you get Top-Rated.  There's no reason to give eBay anymore than you need too...

Bonk's Box sold, Bravoman CIB sold.

Bonk's Adventure CIC can go for $30 shipped.

Prices are below ebay contrary to some people's opinions here.  And eBay fees for a Top Rated seller are 8%, just to clarify some more false information.

Bonk's Box SOLD
Bravoman SOLD
Bonk's Adventure CIC remains, $30 shipped

A couple of extras that I would trade for other similarly valued games, or sell outright.  They both have some general overall wear.  Bonk's has some slight sunfading on the front, Bravoman is missing an inner tab and styrofoam.  They are priced accordingly, pics to follow.

Bonk's Adventure - $50
Bravoman - $30
Shipping $3 per (USA), take both for free shipping.

"Low value" games I'd consider in trade (cash could offset to even out):
Cyber Core
Deep Blue
Double Dungeons
Dragon Spirit
Dungeon Explorer
Moto Roader
Pac-Land
Takin' It to the Hoop
Talespin
TV Sports Hockey
Yo Bro

If interested send a message, thanks!

Quote from: Otaking on 03/19/2017, 05:08 PMPeople on eBay are stupid.
Not Turbografx or PC Engine, but I was just bidding on a seller who had 20 different retro games auctions I was interested in.
ALL 20 separate game auctions got bid up and ended considerably higher than you could buy the same games for a buy it now, right now. Any of those bidders could of searched eBay and found the same games right now for cheaper than the amount they bid. That is literally throwing money away, or actually just giving it away just because they were so fucking desperate to win the auction.

I don't remember it being this bad before where people would bid more than buy it nows. So is this the problem with prices and the current state of eBay? bidders having so desperately to win auctions at all costs??

I think I'll call them "Bidtards" from now on.
This has been happening for years, and will continue to happen all the time.  Like items, listed at auction, always do well together, many times selling for higher than they should.

The main reason is just simple marketing.  What yard sale would do better, one in the middle of no where or 10 all located together at an annual event?  Same concept, say a seller is selling 20 games.  They can be found with one click of "view seller's other items", instead of running 20 separate searches.

Also a convenience thing, sometimes people will bid higher trying to get combined shipping if offered.  Some buyers are also only after specific titles, maybe a Bonk or Bomberman, so that's all they search.  Then when they look at seller's other items, maybe they'll throw some small bids at other titles of interests that they don't actively search for (and may not be familiar with the exact price of all BINs available).

TLDR - Like items listed together at 0.99 always do well.

If you like manuals and this chart is to be believed, it already happened.
Given that there was no fluctuation in the loose price, I bet dollars to donuts that he implemented the CIC/CIB separation algorithm in Oct of '16. Also, no other console saw a substantial drop in prices (according to GVN charts) after Oct of '16. This just appears to be a 'correction factor' for cardboard.
I can confirm that is true, he changed the pricing algorithm then.  Prior to that, CIC and CIB wasn't really designated but it is treated separately going forward.  Owner is a good guy and always open to feedback if anyone wants to improve his algorithms or tracking.

As far as bubble popping on a whole, I'd expect gradual lulls or pullbacks (especially seasonally, like during summer), but a "crash" where $1000 games became $100 or less isn't happening.  There are simply so many resellers in the hobby that games would be scooped up as prices dropped and then relisted as BINs.  Even if they weren't selling, sellers would be stubborn and let them rot.

It really baffles me how people who are only interested in exploiting video games for profit don't understand how this can piss off real enthusiasts...

Many of the members here actually enjoy the TG/PCE, playing the games and discussing them.   You are in it for the money - you can try to convince yourself otherwise, but it won't be true...
What drew me to TG16 was Neutopia.  I played an beat NI / NII last year and enjoyed them, not quite Zelda but worth a play.  I always have been and always will be a COLLECTOR of retro games and more of a modern gamer.  I will do it as a lifelong hobby even if the market completely collapses...

Quote from: guest on 03/02/2017, 09:39 AMFuck off, you leech.  Nobody cares that you're butthurt over being called out as a profiteering scumbag.

Seriously, just how ignorant do you have to be to think that a whopping $150 is unaffordable?  Visit a thread outside of the sales threads and take a look at some of the crazy and often expensive stuff people buy around here.  You might learn something.
No one is butthurt (do adults really use that word?), I just find it funny that I "overpriced" and it still sold too fast.  Typically, when you "overprice" something, it doesn't sell (by definition).

This one I wanted to keep but the condition was too subpar for me upon receiving.  I did price this one high because I didn't really want to sell it.  But if I could get that for it, I'm sure I could buy it back in better condition for cheaper down the road.  Once again, nothing to be offended about.  It either sells or it doesn't, life goes on.

By ridiculously exaggerated do you mean priced at the sweet spot?  Already sold. It really baffles me how some cannot understand that Mint items, complete with packaging, will always fetch a premium price?  People pay for condition.

There is a saying, you can't overpay for Mint, and you can't overprice for Mint either.  I actually was thinking $159.99 but went with $149.99 since I thought it might get a quick hit.  And it did.

I think it's just bad luck on this part.  I had a $900 snipe that didn't register on the $909 CIB lot and I would have paid.  I felt like I was stretching a bit on condition but the vast majority of the CIB TG16 games I see are beat.  Can't comment on the other lot but the CIB lot was valid and I definitely would have paid if the winner backed out.

I only got into TG16 this past May... and I only buy stuff CIB, so it's been an uphill climb.  Personally I've always just resold to fund my hobby and make it self-sustaining.  You have to actively hunt for good deals or you have to expand your knowledge to other platforms and help that way.  Or have a side gig, maybe you can wash cars, do handy work for friends, etc.  Point being that having a hobby or skill that generates more money may be more practical than trying to find games on the cheap.

I would love to know what these go for.  Good luck with the sale.  I kinda hope they don't sell and you play them.  Especially Valis II.  Last Alert is worth it for the voice acting alone.
Ignore the New Adventure Island as that just happened to arrive on the same mail day, but I got these 4 games in trade for the Valis II alone.

Ninja Spirit CIB (Been wanting this one for awhile since I like Ninja Gaiden, but couldn't get one under $100 in nice shape)
China Warrior CIB
Dungeon Explorer CIB
Victory Run Sealed

I'm pretty happy with the trade.  As for Last Alert, I watched some gameplay videos and it reminds me of Ikari Warriors.  I was a fan of that series so I'll probably hang onto the Last Alert even though I don't have a Duo to play the disc based games.

Condition on them is Near Mint, the boxes are absolutely gorgeous.  CD surfaces look exceptional, no flaws to note.  If interested shoot me a message... I'm around 30 CIBs on Hu Cards so still plenty I need.  Thanks!

Meh, games just have a feel, there's no black or white rules or magic formula for price.  Since this price surge in TG16 is resulting from spillover from Nintendo platforms, I assumed Air Zonk would gather more attention than DD or Jackie Chan.  So I bought it and it has since doubled while DD and Jackie have stayed flat.

You don't have to agree, I just thought Air Zonk was obviously undervalued and it only took a few months to level out.

He seems to have listed every single one though, go figure.  It's not like they were in nice condition and he's keeping upgrades and selling dupes either, not sure.  I recognized it because I was looking for a nice Ninja Spirit and this one has a gigantic tear on the back of the box.

You do realize Darkwing Duck on TG-16 and NES share in name and Disney license only? They are not even close to the same game and were developed by different studios!
I knew they were different and thought I read that the NES version was "better", but I'm not familiar enough to argue it.  Either way, platform exclusive titles tend to pull higher prices than multi-platform ones, hence why Air Zonk being half price of DD or Jackie Chan didn't make a lot of sense.

Why so bitter?  Seller started it at 0.99 and it sold for what it sold for.  You can hate the buyer for being overzealous but that's not the seller's fault.  More power to him if he got paid.

To be fair, that one was obviously due for a jump.  I started collecting TG16 CIB back in May and was happy to pay $250 for it.  I saw Jackie Chan / Darkwing Duck selling in the $450-$700 range and thought, wow how stupid is that.  They aren't even TG16 exclusives and the NES versions are much cheaper.

So then you take a game like Air Zonk that is a TG16 exclusive and routinely pops up in the "must buy" game discussions for the platform?  I was wondering why it was so cheap and now price is making more "sense", at least speaking relatively to other games in the library.

Have you even bought anything yet?  This thread has been about a game you were thinking of buying (Soldier Blade), then another one you were thinking of buying (Legendary Axe), and then posting that you were "going to buy" a Final Zone 2... after it sold.

Instead of talking about spending money, actually go out there and spend some money.  That is, if you are serious about collecting.  Or are you just thinking about collecting?
#32
To the conspiracy theorist, I wouldn't be so quick with those accusations.  If someone is going to shill their own auctions then the second place bidder would be the 0 feedback guy, not the winner.  You'd also see the 0 feedback guy have a ton of bids, slowly and incrementally pushing the other bidder up.

I suspected these wouldn't be paid for though, they went WAY higher than I'd think.  Especially with condition considered.

Having said that, I'm interested in a few, sending PM.
#34
Just to add fuel to the fire, there's a lot of private dealings that are not public knowledge.  Maybe the last public sales price was $200 a few years ago but private bounties have been much higher.  A seller can use that to gauge the price and list much higher knowing he already has multiple guys in a range.

Kinda on topic, I bought 300 shares of Nintendo when they were $12 last February, when stock was down but Amiibo craze was in full hype.  Figured it was a no-brainer.  It jumped to $18 about 6 weeks later and I sold them all off, was happy with that return.

But boy, could have held onto them for awhile!  To be honest I don't like Nintendo at $30+ a share until they are more definitive about this NX hardware.  The mobile games are going to be very little revenue streams.  That mini USB thing is something to be excited about though.

No, he's not indicative of the average collector.  He's a pure speculator, or perhaps speculatard, by this forums definition.  The "collectard" is generally buying for keeps or at least buying and holding awhile until something of higher importance shows up.  This guy literally may buy on a Monday, open it on Wednesday and have it for sale Thursday.  That's obssessive compulsive disorder or something, not being a collectard.

Yup, anyone with a collection that expensive is going to have a very good idea of what they have.  I'd assume most would have a nice up to date collection tool of some sort (Excel, App, Word Doc, etc.), but maybe some don't.  It's not even about value, it is just about understanding what you have and the condition it is in when you get to that many games.  No one wants to rebuy something they already own.

I'm not dismissing all BINs as irrelevant either, just significantly undervalued ones.  They probably listed it on year / two year ago pricing and hadn't kept up with the market.  I know there's plenty of items I own where I see what they are selling now and can't believe it myself.

You're trying to use your lack offers as proof of Impossamole's value, but that's nonsense.  There's plenty of other factors in play: the odds of many resellers seeing your request in this particular thread are slim to none (especially over such a short period of time), we're not sitting on piles of duplicates just waiting to be sold, few are willing to sell anything and everything out of their personal collections if someone would only offer the right price, and some people wouldn't sell to you no matter what.
How is it nonsense?  I have a $100 offer that is unfilled demand, and if it appears on eBay again I'll be bidding.  I probably wouldn't bid exactly $100 because I'm cheap and like to get a good deal, but I'm sure I'd go $70/$80.  Now, perhaps once I obtain a copy, no one else is "dumb" enough to pay that and price would drop.  But until that happens I'm confident value is not as low as people would think.

Also, worth noting that box condition does play a factor.  You could argue that $125 is more of a Excellent to Mint price, maybe $60 is price with a totally trashed box and Very Good is somewhere in the middle.  Price does need to be taken with a grain of salt... though my initial comments are just stating that $125 on a Excellcent fully complete copy isn't ridiculous in the current market.

Quote from: jonebone on 09/01/2016, 06:45 AMAnd there's some collectors who don't understand Buy It Now vs. auctions.  The last two auctions have broke $120.  A underpriced buy it now sold for $45 probably immediately upon posting.  Heck, you can go list yours at $20 Buy it now and have it sell in 30 seconds if you'd like?  It is pretty worthless as a data point though.
Typical reseller reasoning: anything low is just a fluke but equally infrequent highs are gospel truth.

Quote from: jonebone on 09/01/2016, 06:45 AMOnce again, willing to pay $100 shipped on a CIB in nice condition and there's been crickets.  If that price was so overvalued sellers would be lining up to sell.
You could offer $1000, which I'm sure you'd agree is way more than it's worth, and I still wouldn't sell mine.  Not everybody is like you and trying to make a quick buck off fellow gamers.
Do you not understand the difference between auction and buy it now?  At auction, 2 bidders determine the value and it is "fair game" for bidding.  At an underpriced buy it now, it is literally the first person to buy it.  You either glosssed over the point, or you don't understand how eBay works.  If someone lists a Stadium Events for $100 and it sells in 3 seconds, is that the new going rate?  Come on now.

You keep forgetting you're not on NA.

We don't sell to everyone, regardless of price.
While it is flattering that you are obsessed with me and always adding your .02, it is starting to get creepy.

I'm not even that concerned with owning the game, nor do I care who sells what to who.  It came up in the thread, and as someone who is actively collecting Turbo CIBs, I thought I'd mention that price isn't really that bad.

Once again, complain about the Jackie Chan / Darkwing Duck values, or the Bonk 3 that just sold at $1100.  Those are good to complain about, Impossamole at $125 is hardly news.

Man, don't be naive. Never heard of shill biddings?
Do you know what shill bidding means or how to detect it?  There was zero reason to suspect any shill bidding on the most recent auction.  That seems to be the generic go-to disclaimer for all of the sideline folk who complain about prices though.

Hint, you look at bid history, then look for low feedback / new users who bid many times on the auction in small increments.  If you see that then yes, shill bidding may have skewed the data.  If you don't see that then no, you're talking out your ass.

Quote from: guest on 08/31/2016, 09:46 AM$125 seems to be a crazy price because a few months ago similarly complete copies sold for half that.  If your idea of worth begins and ends with current ebay auctions, this thread probably isn't for you.
Actually, "a few months ago", the last public sale of a CIB was 5/28/16 was for $169 CAD (roughly $130 USD).  The recent sale is only crazy if you've lost concept of time or haven't been watching prices closely. Your "half that" price is probably longer ago than you think, maybe last year.
One of the biggest problems that feeds the out of control market is that most "collectors" don't understand how eBay or the/a market works. Worse still, they'll rely on inaccurate resources like pricecharting. Worse still, they go around saying things like the last copy sold for $130 and hype the phantom sales history to increase impulse buys, even when all it takes is a few clicks (if you understand how to operate eBay) to find that the last CIB copy sold recently for $45.

Quote from: jonebone on 08/31/2016, 06:51 AMI don't know why it is a shocker that a console exclusive game that is moderately hard to find with box commands $125 on the current market.  That's not even expensive?  If someone wants to complain about a price, they should be discussing Jackie Chan and Darkwing Duck which are pulling around $400 complete in box now.
It's a shocker because the game isn't very good. You're just buying a game to own it, satisfying some unholy desire to catch 'em all. It seems like there are better things that could be done with your money.
It was a CIB game, you can't play a box.  The "Game isn't good" argument only applies to Hu-Card only pricing.  When you start talking CIB or Sealed it is obviously being bought by a collector and gameplay is a distant afterthought.

Quote from: jonebone on 08/30/2016, 02:54 PMI had a bid on that Impossamole, anyone here have a similar one in nice shape for sale?  I'll pay $100 shipped if it is CIB, nice condition with sticker sheet.
This is the worst thread for WTB posts. Just start a thread in the Turbo Sales section with all of your wants and everyone with anything you need will find it.
Yeah not that high of a priority for me, just thought I'd mention it here because it came up in discussion.

I don't know why it is a shocker that a console exclusive game that is moderately hard to find with box commands $125 on the current market.  That's not even expensive?  If someone wants to complain about a price, they should be discussing Jackie Chan and Darkwing Duck which are pulling around $400 complete in box now.  When both of those aren't even exclusives and the NES versions are much cheaper.  Haven't played them but I heard DD was much better on NES too.

My point is that if Impossamole was such a rip off at $125 then someone please sell me one and take my money.  So far, no takers.
