Got my Duo back from KeithCourage and it's wonderful! Got the audio fixed, region mod, Stereo audio out, and S-Video out. Ran a test stream today and I'm VERY happy!!!

Thanks so much sir, awesome job and quick turnaround. Worth every penny!

Yeah, I keep telling him that.
#5
I think that he's finally embraced it a bit, begrudgingly :-)
#6
HA HA!

Well, I'll probably see Brandstetter next month, and if not, I ALWAYS see him at E3 in June. I'll see if he wants to do something. I was but a small piece of that puzzle though, very small lol.
#7
Do you have a price list or site or something? Looking to do this soon (starting to feel separation anxiety) :-)

Thanks much!

Edit: ah, like that website in your signature lol. On my phone, didn't see it. Thanks!

Is anyone still performing mods for the US Duo? My sound has officially crapped out, but I'd also like to get the Video (S-Video?) and Stereo Audio mods done as well (region mod too is possible.)

This is a special Duo to me since TTi sent it to me to test Gates of Thunder. The game would lock-up on an old TG16 with the Super CD Card pre-launch :-)

Please let me know if anyone would be able to do the mods for me, or if anyone knows someone that can do so.

I may also be in the market for mods on my Supergrafx as well.

Thanks much!

I actually liked Keith Courage quite a bit (finished it and everything.) I'll try Granzort out again eventually though, especially since I don't have my hands on Aldynes yet.

Ooh, who was selling that?
Carlson at Mad-Gear.com had it. I'm selling my JP copy, so it worked-out great.

I picked it up from the Post Office yesterday, and the system itself is in AMAZING shape. Not a scratch anywhere. The box is in great shape, but the styrofoam is a bit discolored. The manual etc are all in the original baggie as well.

I played a few games last night.

Grandzort- uggh
Battle Ace- Not a great game, but I got farther than ever (stage 3)
Ghosts and Goblins- I forgot how great the translation is. What a great game!
Darius Plus- I don't really see any "upgrade" wen it's played in the SG, but I love the series, and this is a great game!

All-in-all, I'm EXTREMELY happy with this find! I still need to get Aldynes and 1941 (yeah right,) but I'm definitely grabbing a cd unit for this.
#12

Awesome, I just received my Japanese Master System a few days ago (better sound :-P )
#14
I'll have to play times by ear unfortunately, as I have no idea how much of my time people are gonna want etc. Hopefully I'll get a better understanding of the plans and expectations on Friday when we're setting-up.

Quote from: Keranu on 03/14/2009, 07:02 PMI was just thinking, all of us PCEFX nerds should meet up at some place and time within the MGC area. Like maybe 3pm on Saturday at wherever the Turbo systems are in the museum area.
Well, we're doing our live Podcast in the museum area starting at 3 on Saturday. I'll be at the VGEVO booth a lot, so I'm sure that I'll be sneaking over to the Turbo stuff every now and then  :-"

Quote from: guest on 03/14/2009, 01:01 AMvery nice... such a cool looking system.. looks like small engine to me :)
do ya mind me asking how much you did pay? i think i paid to much for mine 2 years ago when i got :-k
$98 plus shipping, hence the reason that I couldn't pass it up. My buddy in Japan found it for me at some small shop.

Just got my Japanese Master System too, so I get the much better FM Sound. If I keep this up, I won't have any money for MGC next weekend  8-[
#17
No games yet, and it still has to be shipped from Japan. I figure that I'll check around the Midwest Gaming Classic for games before I have my buddy do any searching.
#18
....and boy oh boy, did I get a GREAT deal. My buddy in Japan hunted this down for me, and I got it for a steal!!!!

Well, if it comes out by the time that MGC happens, we're gonna setup Bomberman Ultra on a pretty big screen for some 7-player action

Dude I would do anything to get John Brandstetter to come! How were you even able to contact him? I think I tried emailing him back in 2004/2005 but got no response.

And yeah, blaming Johnny Turbo for the Duo's destruction is stupid. I see the Johnny Turbo ads as a farewell joke more than anything else.
John and I talk from time-to-time. I dealt with him a lot back in the day.

Johnny Turbo!!!!!  I'd want to kick him in the crotch for his hand at helping to ruin the Turbo.
It was FAR from John or anyone else at TTi's fault, trust me.

Be nice, he's a great guy!

I am pretty stoked for MGC this year!

I have been playing the hell out of my Turbo lately, and I just found Fatal Fury II and World Heroes 2 for around $17 each down at a small shop in Chicago. I can't wait to have my wallet drained by the vendors at MGC again this year
#25
It's definitely worth the price. The emulation is perfect and it plays incredibly well on the PSP. I wish it included Gunhead/Blazing Lazers, but really what's included on the disc is great. Having the Caravan version included as well is a great bonus, as I didn't realize they were on there until I got it.

I have a mug, the duffle-bag, and a few shirts. I just found my Lords of Thunder shirt a few days ago actually.

All of it I obtained from TTi directly at CES or when they sent it to me.
#28
I will be there again (as usual.) We'll be setup in the museum area with the other guys and gals from VGEVO. I'm not sure of many more details yet though, but I figured that I'd stop by here and see if anyone was making plans yet

I'm on a Turbo-Kick lately, so I'm pretty stoked for the show this year!
#29
Man, I love the Batman game on the PCE. I beat the Mega Drive/Genesis game in like an hour, whereas the PCE version is nice and long. Plus the visuals are excellent, and it's just a fun game.
#31
Yeah, i had a blast once again. Many thanks to Dan Loosen from the GOAT Store for getting this together again. It was great to meet a couple of the PCEngineFX peeps finally.

Also, I FINALLY got a copy of Spriggan! I also picked up a US copy of Air Zonk, so I finally have that as well. I'll be talking about the show on our next podcast episode which should hit on Thursday.

No label, just FSS and some other scribblings in Marker.
#33
When the organizer asks me to bring it, I bring it  :D

Plus, there are some classic games on it.
#34
At Dan Loosen's request, I will have my PS3 there, and I will have my 32-inch LCD HDTV to hook it up to. Also, I will be bringing the original Fantasy Star Soldier US pressed beta CD for the TG16 Museum.

If we can get wireless Internet working, I have the Warhawk beta for people to try out as well

I was going to bring my TurboExpress, but I'm already bringing my laptop, DS/games, and my PSP and games, so I think I'm leaving my Express at home.

For PS3, I will have 4 controllers, and to play we'll have:
MLB 07: The Show
Resistance: Fall of Man
Motorstorm
NBA Street Homecourt
NBA 2k7
Ridge Racer 7
Virtua Fighter 5 (with 2 Hori Fighting Sticks for the PS3)
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
Calling All Cars (4-player split-screen)
Championship Sprint (Don't Bother)
Mortal Kombat II Arcade (Awesome)
Gauntlet II
Wipeout (PS1)
Destruction Derby (PS1)
flOw
Q*Bert
Gran Turismo HD
Japanese Hot Shots Golf 5 Demo
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Demo
Formula One Demo
Super Rub a Dub Demo
Japanese Folks Soul demo (Gorgeous)
Warhawk Beta (If we can get an Internet connection)
#35
I have the US version of Star Parodier (Fantasy Star Soldier) which was never released in the US.
#36
I bought one on clearance at a JC Penney outlet store with about 6 games (dirt cheap.) Instantly fell in love. Kept that until TTi sent me a Duo for Christmas. The rest is history.
#37
The Japanese soundtrack KILLS the US PoS.
#38
OK, to get back on track here. The best joystick that I've used for the Turboduo is the custom-built JAMMA Arcade stick from the GOAT Store. I got to try out a pre-production model and I LOVED IT!

http://www.goatstore.com/info.php?id=811322

I've only bought the Jaguar version so far, but I will be picking one of the Turbo versions up soon.
#39
I haven't read all of this, but to throw some Good news in here:

I just had my AES modded by Jeff Kurtz, and it was an excellent experience from beginning to end. I have never been happier with my Neo since I bought it when they came out in the US. I still want to get my Duo modded by D-Lite, but I may have to move soon, so I have to hold off for a while.

The differences between the 2 models are:

On the 60GB model, you get:

*Bigger Hard Drive
*Internal Wireless
*Multi-Card reader (which has been more useful than I expected)
*Chrome Trim

Both models have HDMI

Also, it's incredibly easy to replace the hard drive with a larger capacity drive, and it doesn't void the warranty.

Linux works quite well, but they haven't gotten good video drivers yet. All of the Linux-based emulators that I have tried have worked very well so far.

Quote from: Seldane on 03/14/2007, 03:02 PMWho buys a PS3 in order to play PS2 games? The people who own PS2 games most likely own PS2 systems already. Backwards compatibility sucks. I play all my PS1 games (like two of them) on a real PS1.
2 things.

-A lot of people will, because that allows them to only use one console for games from all 3. Less space used.
-At least in the US version, BC does not suck. They actually installed the Emotion Engine chip onto the board of the PS3. It has been said that the software solution for the EU systems will do the job fine. The reports that you are seeing are based on the 1.5 firmware, but the 1.6, that will be released on launch day, is what adds support for all of the BC-enabled titles.

Also, look at the difference in sheer numbers of titles supported in BC between the PS3 and the 360. The PS3, reported to support 1200+ initially, the 360 after being out for over a year, what, 250'ish titles.

When I worked at an EB years ago, and the SNES was coming out, 9 times out of 10, the first question asked was "will it play the games for the NES?"

We, as gamers may not care much about BC, but a LOT of parents and under-informed consider it a very big deal.

Phil Harrison said that it will be initially compatible with 1200+ titles when the system launches. One of the magazines in EU got one already, and barely anything works, but they're running the 1.5 firmware. All of the new compatibility is included in the 1.6 firmware which will be out on launch day.

I have a 60GB PS3, and I really like it. Online has been perfect so far in Resistance and Motorstorm. It's very easy to navigate around, and the system never freezes up (so far) like my 360 does (I'm on my 2nd 360.)

Motorstorm and VF5 are amazing. Tekken: Dark Resurrection just came out as a download for $20 and it's awesome. MKII Arcade is coming out soon as well, for supposedly $5. I've even been playing Q*Bert a lot over the last few days. I used to LOVE that game.

I honestly am playing my PS3 more than the 360 at the moment, mainly because of Motorstorm. I also really do like the backward compatibility with the PS1 and PS2. I've only had an issue with one PS2 game, where the music won't play.

Just like the 360, there are definitely some issues that need to be ironed out, like the fact that it won't scale to the resolution that you need to run. If a game is setup for 720p only, it scales to 480p instead of 1080i, which is all my TV will support. They have a hardware scaler, so now they just need to start using the damned thing.

Also, they need background downloading. Our concerns about not being able to find your friends while you're in a game is obviously being taken care of with "Home."

Not paying $60 for the privilege of using an online service is nice as well, especially since I get less lag over it when compared to Live.
#44
I have a 32-inch LCD that I could bring along. It travels very well (Very Light.)
#45
I already let Dan Loosen know that I'd be available to help with anything on the "turbo Fest" as well. I'll be staying right at the Olympia this year, so I'll be there all weekend.

I may be getting my duo modded by D-Lite soon, if he has time to do it. I just got my modded Neo Geo back from Jeff Kurtz yesterday, and I can't play it enough now. If I getthe Duo modded, I may bring it so that there's an extra available. Also, if anyone has an Arcade Card, I can bring my copy of Sapphire (I still need a card, so I just play it on ME right now.)

That's pretty cool, but how did you get your hands on such a beast?  I'm not doubting you - just curious.  Did it look similar to the one shown in the magazine article, or were different prototypes made?
I used to do some testing for TTi, and John B. and I were good friends. They were showing the unit off at a CES one year ("behind closed doors"). We messed around with it quite a bit at that show. I believe that it was at the Summer '92 or '93 show in Chicago, but it's been a long time. I'm pretty sure that it was the same show that we took one of the Hudson Japan guys to play Battletech down at the North Pier Mall (the equipment has been moved to Dave and Busters downtown now.)

I beat on one sitting back when I got the game in the early 90's. I was so disappointed with the Batman game for the MegaDrive (yup, I imported it, and beat it on my first sitting,) but I really enjoyed the PCE game. It kept my interest throughout the entire game.

So, I'm the only one that Likes my PSP?!?! Wow.

I am greatly excited about this coming out. I own the original for the PC Engine (bought it when it came out, so I didn't pay 'too much.') I love the fact that both the Original and the 2.5-D remake are on the same disc.

Start flaming, because I play my PSP way more than I play my DS.
