Not that Legendary Axe 2 crap. The original. Don't know why, but I really like this game alot. Maybe because it's challenging, or maybe cause I really like the soundtrack. I think it is a solid addition to the PC Engine library. Anyone else really like this game?

Yes, and I really like that "Legendary Axe II crap" as well.  :)

Yeah,  Many people do.  It gathered a few GoTY awards too during its time, so by no means did the game go unnoticed.

Personally, I'm not sure what the big fuss is about.  But then again I never gave the game a decent chance, plus I first played the game well after its prime, so there's no nostalgia factor for me either.

best rpg ever!!  At one point I had to walk around for three hours to up my level before I fought dweebledwarf the dark one to steal his crown to give to the monk in the lost woods who offered me a moon rock for me to smoke and write this line of b.s..

Legendary is legendry!!!!  its the first tg16 game I bought.  I saw the commercial and this game was a huge selling point for me to buy the system.  Take a look and you will agree It was the selling point at this time.
I saw that big ass sprite on my screen and was like  "sold"!

Legendary Axe is fantastic. Great chip tunes, colourful graphics, and some of the smoothest gameplay I've ever experienced.

Of course your not the only one who really likes Legendary Axe.  It's a must have on the Turbo!
All is well. :)

I love Legendary Axe, but I only play it up to the point where I die, wherever that may be.  I do not like starting over at the weakest level when it took me 45 minutes to get to where I was at, life bar and strength/speed-wise.

OldRover

It's primitive and largely only loved by those who played it during its prime. Those of us who did not...generally find it to be weaksauce and too buggy to enjoy.

I played it way back when and loved it. So I went back to it a couple years ago after several years off and felt it held up pretty darn well. Sure, the graphics aren't particularly sharp, but the tunes are interesting and the game itself is pretty solid and fun.

Ark and I *gasp* agree?!?! lol  While I did indeed drool over it bitd looking at pics in magazines, I never played until like 2 years ago.  Still a damn solid, fun game.

I still clearly remember seeing the enormous Jagu in a demo at a local video game store here in Seattle as a kid, that was the day I knew I needed a Turbo.

I remember the Turbo Commercial with him in it, he was so big and impressive looking that I wanted to get a Turbo after that.

Anyways, I love Legendary Axe, I think music is the main reason, then maybe the gameplay/nostalgia factor.

You didn't disprove it, you merely assumed that I was saying "all", when my post clearly implies "most".

And I like China Warrior and Keith Courage too...then again, I played them during their prime so of course I'd like them. MOST people playing them for the first time these days would find them to be bad games, especially China Warrior.

Huh, I didn't realize it was that popular. I just assumed since it is kinda hard that everyone hated it. I played it for the first time about 9 years ago, and loved it ever since. I don't know why, but it kind of reminds me of a caveman version of Ghosts n' Goblins, but not quite as hard.

I just didn't care for 2 as much. It didn't feel like a sequel. I remember playing for a few hours and losing interest in some huge castle I think. I need to go back and give it another chance.

Next you all are going to tell me everyone loves Dungeon Explorer II. Caue we all knowe what crap that game is.

The Legendary Axe II isn't actually a real sequel. It's called "Dark Legend" in Japanese and is a completely original game that has nothing to do with The Legendary Axe. It was simply considered a sequel when it was brought stateside. Same company and similar premise, but different game altogether.

The huge castle is probably the last level, as it is a huge metal castle full of mechanical enemies. The only other castle-like level is 3, and it's pretty straightforward so you can't get lost in it...it's just kind of hard until you learn where everything is. If you can remember previously climbing up blocks onto a platform with lightning bolts and clearing that level out to find yourself in a castle, then yes, you'd reached the final level of the game and yes, it is confusing the first few times...if you make it through it at all. The level is very open, with multiple paths to the exit.

Once I start making videos, I want to do a video walkthrough of LA2. It's a pretty damn fun game once you get the hang of it.

Are you all assuming I am a troll? I did start this thread after all. And I was obviesly joking. I have been on this website for almost 3 years, I just hardly ever post since I sold all my turbo stuff a few years ago when my timing chain in my car broke and destroyed my engine. I pretty much gave up on the turbo after I sold Dynastic Hero, Magical Chase, and probably 90% of all the other English games I had, which was basically the whole library. But I decided to start collecting again even though I know I will never find some of those games again. I actually really like Dungeon Explorer II. Enough in fact, that I wrote a FAQ on gamefas for it that I plan on updating really soon when I get another copy of the game

Yes, that huge castle is where I made it. I can't remember if I beat the game or not. It's been about 7 years since I played it.

Hmm.. I played LA for the first time about 3 or 4 years ago. I couldn't find it locally when the Turbo was in its prime. I think it is a very good must have game for anyone that picks up a TG16 or PCE. I have always heard bad things about LA2, but after the things that have been said in this thread, I will consider looking for one to purchase.

You haven't beaten it then. You would have remembered...trust me. :D The final boss is awesome and the ending is disturbing.

Back in the day, my brothers and I recorded TG-16 commercials on the VCR and played them back in slow-motion: Jagu, with his pulsating veins and bad-ass character design,  won our hearts.

LEGENDARY AXE IS AWESOME.

1) Any game that has pygmy monkeys (literally) jumping on your back and biting you = awesome.

2) Old_Rover always complains about Legendary Axe (it is his prerogative, I won't take it away from him), but I  think it is a decent game with a lot of nice touches that elevate it above simply being "generic", despite the "bugs" or flaws it may possess (this is debatable). Nostalgia is not a factor here: Legendary Axe is a decent game, even for first-timers in 2010.

3) HOWEVER, and I always say this when we discuss Legendary Axe, I hate the "hawk"/"eagle"/"blob" sprite used in the canyon cliffs stage. Such an ugly sprite.

4) Read about my love for the Legendary Axe soundtrack here.

I complain about the bad gameplay mechanics in The Legendary Axe. That's what really kills the game. That's the only thing I greatly dislike about it. The visuals are great, the music is primitive but acceptable, and the premise is cool. But the gameplay destroys it...terrible coldet ruins the experience and the game is simply not very fun because of it.

I have to agree about the controls, the gameplay is alittle.... stiff at times. Thats probably one reason that the game is as tough as it is. I've never beaten it.... of course I suck at games. Now I think that Legendary Axe II's controls a little better, plus with the other weapons its a touch more entertaining. Also I think the second one (I know, not really a sequel) is a bit darker thematically.
