Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

$300 in Japan...lets guestimate $250 in the US.  Still way to much IMO (wheres the throngs of peeps whining about the PSP launch price now).

Mega Man Legends 3 is a cool surprise though.

Six years later and nearly double the cost of the PSP, yet it's seemingly only marginally more powerful.  I guess I'll hold judgment til real games are out, but the specs aren't very impressive considering the amount of pixels that need to be rendered (double a PSP's).

Hmm... does seem pretty pricey.  I guess we'll see how good the games end up being.  I'm sure it will do fine with its DS game backwards compatibility, but I cant see parents running out in droves to buy their kids one.  $300 for a DS Lite with a horde of games or $300 for a 3DS with one game...  I cant say much being one who paid $600 for a PS3 in late Nov of 2006, but still.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Maybe they priced it high on purpose to make it sell worse at launch so people would stop bitching about supply problems. The price will only go down, obviously.

What's more baffling is that the PSPGo is $250...still and nobody wants that piece of shit.

Yeah, that's too much for my blood, however, Rockman Dash 3 makes it more tempting, though, I still have to play thru the first 2 games.  I wish they would bring out the PSP version's.  Speaking of which, the PSP2 devkits have gone out to alot of dev's, so I'm just waiting to find out more concrete details.  Generally speaking, the PSP absolutely kills the DS in regards to great games for me.

Even at that price it will sell like "hotcakes" the ds afther all prints money for nintendo  Still i doubt i'll get one right away when it launches at that price, forget it.

I'm starting to think the PSP2 will not only be more powerful then the 3DS, but cheaper as well...but, it won't have 3D, which, doesn't matter to me, it's about the games.

There are some great games on PSP for sure, but damn they are few and far between. It seems like sometimes 9 months go by without a PSP game I want, and even then its usually a $65 import. Just look at the PSP section at a store like Target. There isn't JACK SHIT there. Maybe 2 dozen games and most are crappy "little brother" versions of major console releases (Syphon Filter, Need for Speed, Metal Gear, whatever) or licensed garbage. The new PSP ads seem to have changed from "we have the most powerful handheld out there" to "When you buy Greatest Hits games we are way cheaper than an iPod Touch" which is a pretty sad state to be in. Nobody making a real game machine should have to stoop to defending themselves against a friggn iPod.

I couldn't get by without the DS. I do most of my modern gaming on it. This past week we had a new Layton game and The Last Window (in EU anyway) and then its Super Robot Wars L later this month. I can't just play mediocre Falcom ports and Bandai stuff forever.

As for the PSP2...I don't know man. Sony is floundering pretty hard core with the PSPGo flopping big time, Turismo Portable being lame as hell, and the PS3 being barely better than nothing. If they can get their shit together and put something out with some character and some...spirit...not sure what I'm going for, then I'm all for it since I love handhelds and I love competition but its pretty obvious that these people are absolutely lost and have no idea what the fuck they are doing anymore. Considering how expensive and over-engineered the original PSP was, its amazing it survived as well as it did. I don't think they could do something like that again. The market just isn't there anymore.

I wonder if the homebrew scene has been the force that's kept the PSP going so long :D

I will pick up a 3DS day one, and I hope it actually comes out at $250 and not $300.  With the USD bein at a 6 month low, and very low for 2+ years, I could see big N asking for $300.  Regardless, gotta get it.

I really hope Street Fighter 4 on 3DS is awesome and can be played online with the same features the console game had.  I will be M Bisoning all over town.

A few more details are revealed here.  Interestingly enough, downloaded games will run directly from SD cards; it'll be interesting to see how they circumvent pirates with that setup.

For me, it took a few years, but the PSP has overcome the DS in games that I love.  I used to love the DS over the PSP, there were lot's of great games in comparison, but I've REALLY been enjoying the last year or 2, & now that we're getting all these Falcom games, the deal is sealed for me!  And I think Sony honestly has done much better then previous portables pitted against Nintendo.  Plus, in Japan the PSP & PS3 have both picked up steam to where they're the best sellers each week or month or whatever even over the Wii & DS, which can invigorate 3rd parties to make more great games for both systems.

As for the PS3, for me, it's the best console of this generation.  The Wii for me is 2nd, it has some cool games, though the motion stuff puts me back a bit, I mainly just don't like having more then one controller, but I put up with it in some games.  And the 360, I only have one for a couple of games.  I don't care about the Halo's or GoW's, they just don't do anything for me personally.  I think the Halo's are good, but overated.

I'm also a person who absolutly does not care about online gaming, it doesn't interest me.  A friend of mine tried to get me to play online with him in War for Cybertron, but, I just can't get excited about waiting for him to be online, & then having to be there & not pause the game even if I need to get up to do something.  Though I know I'm in the minority for that.

I have a feeling the PSP2 will be very comfortable handle.  Still, gotta wait for real news on it.  The 3DS doesn't have anything interesting for me on launch so, that's a relief for me wallet to be sure!

It will probably function identically to the Wii, which has downloadable games running from SD cards.

Doesn't the Wii load games from the SD card to internal memory before booting 'em?

I'm still not sold on the 3DS. I'm interested for sure, but I want to wait to see how it pans out first.

I heard rumors than Panasonic is making a comeback into video game hardware... in the portable market of all places!!  Would it be the 3DOS :P

I like new stuff, let's get more players in the mix! Even if it fails, I like diversity!

I've always been more about function over form.  It's a beefy handheld spec wise.  The clamshell design isn't bad at all.  What I don't like is that it's mainly geared towards being an online MMO type of handheld.   No thanks.  I guess you are probably going to have to pay for month to month wifi.  How else are you going to be constantly with an online wireless connection on the go to play some damn MMO game?  I wish it would've just been a powerful open source handheld that ran linux.

Anyways there is no way in hell I would ever pay 300 for a handheld.  Especially with it being nintendo.  I like my DS lite, but that thing was 129.99 brand new for me in 07.  $300 is way to much for a handheld.  My Japanese launch psp didn't even cost near that amount.  I'll stick with what I have, cause that is a ridiculous price.

Starfighter

You guys always get so much better prices! 3DS costs about $420 here and as a response to the outrageously low price of DS Lite (129.99!!) I can say that it costed $240 on release here. And after that it actually got worse since everybody wanted to buy it used so the used was almost more expensive than retail.

Bonk, Bomberman, and a Hudson shooter are now confirmed for the 3DS Express.  Yay!

ParanoiaDragon

Bomberman was a given, but it's cool to see Bonk is coming onto an actual platform, rather then just a virtual one.  So, so far, I'm looking forward to Bonk, Mega Man Legends 3, ...uh, seems like there was one more game.  Iga talked about maybe doing a CV game, I hope he does, as I hate Lords of Shadow & prefer his recycling of games any day of the week.

...what? Japanese "value" PSP at launch, ¥24,800...six years ago. I'd say it was pretty damned "near" the same price.

I got it from a guy in japan on ebay with Ridge Racers for 250.  It was a pure luck buy right before xmas.  I actually lost the bid and he came back and said the bidder with the highest bid backed out and he would sell it to me for what my bid was.  He had great feedback so I took the offer.

Yeah it's fairly close, but at the time for me it was worth that price, but I also had more money to throw around.  The 3DS is just a bit much for me.  It will sell no problem, but with the DS lite going for around $140 when it was out I can't see double the price for just a 3D screen and a slightly better GPU.
