I think the iPhone is pretty great, just not at games. All phones suck at games unless they are "phone-y" by nature. Robot Unicorn Attack, or anything that relies on motion sensing are fine. I think it massively depends on the game. Super Star Solider would be fine, it seems to me, since you only hold the fire button and move the d-pad in a sweeping motion. Bonk...no, sorry. Also, any fighting game=forget it.

I'm not so keen on touch screen controls for games that are designed for a joystick or D-pad - that goes for Windows Phone 7, iPhone, and Android. For emulators my Gp2x Wiz will smack any of these around. I have an Android Fascinate, but unless the game is specifically designed for a touchscreen, I don't want much to do with it. Another exception is racing games. These work quite well with these type of phones.

In any case, Steve Jorbs can come back down to reality from cloud Apple when he stated at a launch presentation that the iPod Touch is the #1 gaming platform in the world. I guess he can say pretty much anything and people will accept it as truth. He stated that 1.5 billion games were downloaded, but the slide behind him did not back up his claim. The slide stated that "1.5 billion 'Games and Entertainment' titles have been downloaded", including fart apps. That's like saying the PSX is the #1 CD player in the world, even though most people never used it as a CD player. So, I don't think smart phones are in reality a big threat to Nintendo or Sony regardless of what Jorbs says. Most of these smart phone games are simple boredom killing apps that make Klax on the TG look like gaming heaven.

That said, I think it's cool that Hudson is expanding into the smart phone market. Hopefully they also expand to Android and WP7. If this will allow more people to have access to oBey then I'm all for it.  The pricing per game seems a little expensive, however.

If you get a case that has a kickstand, you got a little portable gaming system. Now guess what my new toy is? Samsung Galaxy Tab. That's right, 7" Samsung Tab...that kicks ass for gaming, expecially with the wiimote. I use the wiimote for all the emulators, and it works extremely well. You can even use a classic controller - plugged into the wiimote. Works on any of the "oid" emulators (Snesoid, Gensoid, Nesoid, etc).

I was actually wondering if I had to root my Samsung Galaxy S if I wanted to play emulators on it. Should have known better, I guess. hehe. How do you get the emus for free?

So how is the Galaxy Tab? I'm still not sold on the whole tablet thing, but it's nice to see some decent competition.

I have NESoid on my phone, the first Moto Droid, and I can't stand to use it.  Even with the physical keyboard, the thing that resembles a d-pad is on the right, so it sucks.

I guess everyone else is Darwin adapting, and I'm ready to get clubbed over the head.  To me, iphone still sucks.

You can adapt, but it doesn't change the fact that touch screen controls for platformers and shooters is a very poor replacement for physical buttons. Sure, for games like Angry Birds (strangely addicting heh) or games that utilize the accelerometer the experience is OK (sometimes), but for games where you need precise controls multi-touch multi-sucks. This is all my opinion, of course. Though, anyone claiming that touch screen controls on their Android, iPhone, or WP7 are just as good or better than an actual controller (unless we're talking about the Atari 5200 controllers) are only fooling themselves. For casual gamers that like playing Plants vs. Zombies on Facebook, I'm sure multi-touch does the job, but for games like Ghosts 'n Goblins and R-type? Forget about it.
