Saturday morning I lucked up and found what I thought was a Turbo Express at a garage sale. I did not realize until I got home that it was, in fact, a PCengine GT. This is really disappointing to me as all my games are US region. Is there an adapter available that will let me play my US games on this JP region system?  :?

Keranu

Dude finding a PC Engine GT at a garage sale in America is even cooler! :D I know you might prefer to have a Express, but finding a PCE GT at a garage sale out here is unbelievable.

I hate to say it, but I don't think such an adapter exists... but still it's cool that you actually found a PCE GT at a garage sale of all places...

no - i think the region adapters (eg kisado) only work from USA machines to let you play japanese games - not the otherway.
You could always ebay the GT, then buy an Express with the cash - or even see if someone on these forums would like to do a swap.

Playing US games will require either:

1) the use of an adaptor and a simple mod

or

2) a much more complicated mod.

I can't imagine why you'd be disappointed. I'd be thrilled. The TG-16 library is puny, expensive, and pathetic whereas the PC Engine library is vast, and inexpensive. Its much easier (for me anyway) to live without US games than to live without JP games.

The PCE library is also Japanese, and lest we forget that a great majority of users here do not speak Japanese? :P Some people care more about playing games than merely collecting them...

Well, don't take it wrong, I own some imports for certain of my Sega systems, it's just that all my HuCards are US region.

The garage sale was more like some mystical place from a fairy tale. I didn't arrive at the sale until after 11 a.m., which is considered very late late as far as yard and garage sales go. The lady having it stated that both of her sons are now in college in another state so she was selling off their stuff to reclaim their former bedrooms while they're away. I'd really hate to be her when they come back for a visit.

I spent nearly my entire paycheck at that sale. 4 game systems (including the GT), 71 games for various systems, and a few miscellaneas items.

I'll probably sell the GT on Ebay since there doesn't seem to be a US to JP adapter. Plus, as previously stated, I don't have a JP HuCard to verify whether it's fully operational or not.

well if you are going to sell the GT - test a JAP game on it first if you can - even if it means buying one off ebay, you could get some awful game for a few dollars - then you can test the GT and if its all ok you`ll get a much better price than selling it untested.

This is sound advice. You might even get one of the folks here to help you out.

Wow. I remember packing away all my game stuff when I went to college (Turbo and SNES collections, pretty extensive even back then). Didn't dig it back out and play anything until my senior year. I would have had a heart attack if my parents had sold everything off in a yard sale. :)

Wow are those college boys going to be PISSED when they come back home. :o

By the way, how much did you spend for the GT?

I would definitely be pissed.  Especially if they see that I have two Turbo Duo boxes, one empty because the system I am using and one sealed.  If they would sell or throw away the sealed one I would just fall and not get up.  If they said that they sold it for $100, I would tell them that it's worth more than $500 and then they would be remorseful.  Luckily that did not happen yet.
Let the old mix with the new.

Since I don't plan to hold onto this unit I don't think it would be ethical to tell what I paid for it.

Ordered a cheap JP HuCard off of Ebay earlier today to test the system. Hopefully that'll arive by Saturday.

Keranu

Ah, so you paid around $10 then? :D

Received the JP HuCard, Daisenpu, in the mail today. System works, but no sound unless you use a earphone. The sound is very faint with the audio turned all the way up.
