I noticed that this game appeared on both platforms (US). What version is better? Or are they different?

Yeah, the Sega CD version is alike by game-play and name alone.  The story is completely different.

I tried to play the Sega CD version once, but I didn't care for it. We used to play the original Dungeon Explorer a lot, and it's still one of my favorite TG games. I've yet to play Dungeon Explorer II, as I don't have anyone around now who would be interested in playing it, plus my Turbo Tap doesn't seem to be functioning the way it should.

Unlike the Turbo version SEGA CD Dungeon Explorer nearly requires you play it with a friend. The difficulty is incredibly unbalanced. Not to mention the dungeons are way more maze like and frustrating. Turbo Dungeon Explorer is the far better game.

Sega CD version rocks in my opinion.

Never said it was better than the two Turbo games...

Too late! You're not allowed to like games for rival consoles! [-X
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Does it count that I haven't even played the Sega CD version? :P
Let me guess, its got grainy 64 color full motion video throughout the game?

And at the end credits it says: Dungeon Explorer III.

For realz.
Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Josh and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner (extortion/blackmail!), never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

That settles it. It IS Dungeon Explorer III.

What, & no one mentions Crystal Beans from Dungeo Explorer for the SFC/SNES?  I like that one, it's fun, though it's mostly just a heavily shortened version of Dungeon Explorer 2 with a new feature or 2.  IIRC, I think the characters have an extra melee attack or something like that.

Linky for those not in the know. :)  Scroll down to the bottom for Crystal Beans.

I was able to get pretty far in the Sega CD version but could never quite beat it.  The music is nowhere near as good as either Turbo version, sadly.
