12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

What is the Difference

Ok, so I am confused, what is the difference between the Turbo DUO, the Turbo Duo-R and the Super Grafx?  :-k

Nazi NecroPhile

The TurboDuo is the US version of the PCE Duo (the first all-in-one system), the Duo-R is a Japan only cost cutting revision to the original Duo, and the SuperGrafx was an ill-fated attempt at a improved, more powerful system to better compete with the 'real' 16-bit systems (it proved to be unnecessary, as the original system could compete well enough on its own.... in Japan at least).  The SG has the same CPU and sound chip but has four times the system ram and adds a second video controller - doubling the video ram, adding a second background plain, and doubling the number of sprites on screen.

So many PC Engines, But I still like the Turbo DUO

SMF

SuperGrafx is worth owning if only for Ghouls & Ghosts and 1941.

A note: the Supergrafx dead ended before Duos existed, so while in some ways it's more evolved than regular PC Engines, it is in other ways less.

and Aldynes, since this is at least an SGFX exclusive, and on top of that, also a very good one.

Ahhhh yes forgot about that 1, Your correct 5 games released and those would be the 3 worth owning. Yes I know they released 2 backward compatable games but most people can't and won't be able to afford those lol.

Great little system if you can find it on the cheap.

Battle Ace, mother fuckers.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Nazi NecroPhile

I'd say they're all worth getting - if you're going to spend hundreds of dollars to get a SG, 1941, and Daimakaimura, ya might as well spend the comparative peanuts getting the other two titles too.

No kidding.

Granzort isn't bad. While it is a love it or hate it game, it definitely has some merit. Deserves a chance.

CPTRAVE

I would not mind having a SuperGrafx just to have one, but if I did I would definitely would want one of the 5 games to try it out.

Threads ends here. :D
Yeah, not really. That guide still confuses people. According to that guide the PC Engine can only play HuCards but the CoreGrafx and CoreGrafx II can play Arcade Card CDs...

That chart is missing the European TurboGrafx.

And the Vistar for extra confusion points.

--DragonmasterDan

jlued686

Ha! I knew the Euro version would get mentioned right away. As it's labeled, it's just for American/Japanese compatibility. Vistar and Laseractive were excluded.

SignOfZeta

I don't think you need a chart for US/JP comptability.

It it's an American System it plays American HuCards

If its a JP systems it plays JP HuCards.

CDs have no region.

That's all the info you need. That and "with a mod regions completely disappear".

Unless it's an ACD, because then you need an Arcade Card and an adapter. BOOM! I just blew your mind!

The Arcade Card is a JP HuCard and is therefore covered in the three axioms I just laid out. You blew jack.

I did not blow jack. His name was Tim.

If that was really all the info. that was needed, we wouldn't have people asking questions about what works with what every other week, especially the differences between Pro and Duo Arcade Cards.

What model is "LT Super CD-Rom2"?  Is that the LT to Super CD-rom2, pi-ad18 adapter?

Missing the Rau-30 adapter as well.

You're right. Up to three pages are filled the last time someone ask about that.
Really that hard?

Yes.  The rest of the sentence is on the following line, reading "if equipped with a LT Super CD-ROM2 Adapter+Super CD-ROM2 unit and appropriate System card."

Nice chart, Jlued! Best reference yet. Please pass along our thanks to Jack or Tim or whomever.

Yes, please add the RAU-30.
Also, the Super CD-ROM can play ACDs with a Duo card and it doesn't need any card for SCDs.

OK I like that chart it is easier to understand and makes sense. Awesome.

jlued686

Thanks guys. I made it a few years back. I'm always afraid to post stuff like that here because you guys are so much more knowledgable than me and I'm afraid of inaccuracies.

Were there 2 PACs for the LaserActive?  A US and a Japanese one?  And are there compatibility issues the same as the normal units?

Yes, there was a US NEC PAC capable of playing TG16 HuCards and a Japanese NEC PAC capable of playing PC Engine HuCards. I've heard Fatal Fury 2 when running with the arcade card is buggy on the LA, but I'm not aware of any other compatibility issues.
