Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

and not forgetting the special warp points and special stages on Gradius!!

All I know is that if you mention Space Megaforce to any serious shooter fan you'll be laughed out of wherever you are.  The game is a total joke once you get past the graphics.  You want a snes shooter that rules AND has awesome graphics then Macross is the way to go, not megaforce.

SM's soundtrack kicks ass though. Get the SPC and listen to "Black Hole Anomalies" and tell me if I'm wrong.

What about Super Famicom Spriggan Powered? I didn't like that one much. Sure most of the graphics were 3-D rendered and a great soundtrack but I wasn't feeling the weapons. If they lightened down on the rendering, it could've been just as solid as Macross SV was.

PCEngineHell

I totally hated Space Megaforce. I thought it was a fucking joke and back then I did not think much of Compile, but years latter after realizing how many good games they made it was sad to see they made Super Aleste/Space Megaforce. I still to this day feel like even some of the first shooters on Megadrive like Thunderforce 2 and Curse are worlds better then SM.

Is Gradius anything like Life Force on the NES?  The powerup system and general design looks the same.

Life Force was spectacular.

I'd really like to check out Gradius PCE if it's anything like Life Force was/is.

Spector

Well Life Force was a follow up of sorts to Gradius, so yes, it is similar. Though Salamader on the PCE is even more similar to Life Force, since it's the same game!

Zor, it goes like this:

1985 - Gradius/Nemesis
1986 - Salamander/Life Force
1988 - Gradius II

...and various other sequels on the SNES (Gradius III) and other platforms.

Gradius II is the direct sequel to Gradius, but Salamander (Life Force) was kind of a spin-off feauring the same hero (ship) and arsenal. Although the way in which the arsenal is powered up is different. Salamander is largely considered the superior game in the series, an opinion I happen to agree with.

If you liked Life Force, get a copy of Salamander and bask in the 16-bit-graphic goodness.

That's kickass! Much better than the NES Graidus, though not better than Gradius III or R-Type 3...

Speaking of R-Type, does anyone know where I can get the Duo CD soundtrack for R-Type?

I found three MP3s of it, it's a great soundtrack.

I agree, my friend! Though most people on this forum will disagree with you. I believe it superior to cart music in almost every way, except the first level song. They should have stayed faithful to the original tune on that one.

Exactly, while the first level music is nice, it's 90's house, not R-Type.

They need to remake the original song, with real guitars, real analog synths, those old 80's Simmons power drums and a PIPE ORGAN. That would pwn.

But the Level 1 song DID show off the AVS I'm submitting to Winamp quite adequately:

Cool vid, man. The fact that you used R-Type music increased it's cool factor by 356%.

Kitsunexus

Thank you! I should make a REAL R-Type one, with the R-Type ship flying around in the visualizer...I belive I can do that with the Picture command in AVS... that would be sweet! :)

I just have to say this: Gradius isn't for noobs ;)   :-({|=  [-X

I like Gradius, its a classic. The difficulty is as it should be for a shooter. I prefer Darius though....

Now Parodious, thats a good game!

Kitsunexus

Parodius IS a great game! My fave out of the series is Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius on the Super Famicom.

We're getting a pseudo sequel to Sexy Parodius - Otomedius. Supposedly going to be using their WinXP hardware, but it will be 2D. It's also gonna have a touch screen! ^.^

Question: Why a touch screen?
Answer: "For the perverted out there you can even touch your character's naughty bits to get a "cute" reaction from them (uh, not that we tried or anything)."

Not as interesting - It's also useful for a special attack.

 and the game's title translates as little-girl-dius !!

Actually "otome" is "young woman" as in legal age teenager.

Of course their legal age is NOT the same as ours... 0_0

Tatsujin

how about "virgin". in fact, otome has many meanings, but their all concentrated around young "non married" girls etc.
