I've only seen it mentioned here briefly, usually in the Arcade card threads. I've also found a bunch of random short reviews around with the net, but nothing for the PCE version. Does anyone here have it, or have played it? I gotta admit ive been drawn to the cover and wierd screenshots on the back of the box for years. I just wonder if it's worth the price.

From everything I've seen and what little I've played of it, it's a weird cyberpunk, non-linear RPG. The fights look cool and unique. I was pleasantly surprised by them, but slightly disappointed by the rest. The overall setup and gameplay seems simlar to Dragon Slayer, with a fast moving small character running around doing a lot of talking and fetch quests. I wanted it for years, but once I got it and had seen some gameplay videos, the seemingly non-linear gameplay moved it down my play list and I haven't been able to attempt a proper play through yet.

I always wanted it because it's compatible with theMB128...until recently, when I realized that the day I sit around playing RPG's I can't read is never going to come and I sold most of my non-action imports.

Late-period games were pretty much the only ones supported.  Most of the titles are those "arcade card" SCD's.

FYI, there's a note on the description of Linda Cube at PCECP that says there were two print runs, the first being buggy.  So, maybe try to find the later version of this already rare game.

So I finally got a hold of Linda.

Apparently it is a present day paranorma game. My favorite catergory.

The whole idea is that your this guy who made a promise to a girl, who usted to live next to you ( like most of us reading this ). She apparently came up with the idea, that the worlds army should save the animals. However their is no time left. You being the idiot who remembers her, decide to go on this repair and recover.

Now the world has melted into one. You know the whole melting pot theory, So apparently everybody in the game is a morph of pan-Eurasian. ( more or less pan-Japan ). This is why everybody is the shape they are. Basically an idea Japan-African, world. Basically the world is at peace.

However I am sure a person from Japan could enlighten us, on the subject of these down to earth characters, like the main characters mom. Yes did I mention you get a mom, just like in pokemon. However instead of looking commercial, she looks like a real mother, who has a traditional east asian deep voice, vingary and sexy like Doctor girlfreind ( at least in my eyes ). I wonder what his mom did to get that big house she lives in. I mean seriously, in the village your house is probably the biggest.

The animal idea of this game seems to reflect a PSX game, I forget the name of. You collect them, and use them for battle. So more or less the game is reference in terms of nature and pokemon. In fact I believe this game predates the release of Pokemon ( considering that Pokemon was in developement since the early 1990's ) . So maybe things like had a role of influence?????

The god part of the game, is the world is ending. and it is up to you to save it, blah blah.  So of course your evil self, is out their commiting crimes in your names, making people angry, and enlisting the forces of darkness. One of the things it shows, is the end.

Finally their is a love-luv part, which is obvious from the start. Where you are trying to please the worlds, last girl "Linda". Seriously ( at least that is way I see it ). However the task is so huge, so you apparently to the job. Ironic your long lost love is this girl who wants to save the planet. I have not gone far in the game, I think Linda is the kid of the elder who summoned, the ark.

Being a present day paranorma, it also makes me want to play some SFC rpgs.
The game obviously is some kinda of homeage, or respect to the PC-NEC series.
If they want to, they could have wented all out, considering the game was released in

One of the things this game does is make it feel to have a kid with an black person ( you know the 1990's ( Super 80's ) way of thinking ). Basically "black Japan" or "hip Japan" or "street Japan" or modern world. This game brings back so many memories of youth,". The flat fact, the game proccess of thinking, and calculating is an innocent one, like the way most of us think when we were in our teens.

If you like Akira, Kite, Perfect Blue, and other favorites of mine, then you will love this game. It embodies everything, at least what I loved about Present Day world. When FF7 was released, they pretty much just ripped off this game, completely. God, Pussy, and freindly forest critters is in this game.


To even add to the fire, some of the characters "like evil you" appears in the later Persona series. Can't figure why????? Any relationships between.

Finally you see the whole point of this game, is not to scare you. or be horrific in any manor whatsoever. However I am pass that "teen" stage, so the whole suicidal, and

"Present Day Paranorma" is centeralized around Shin Mega Ten. Apparently alot of people recently are discovering this game, but for years, I was into it. Apparently a couple of the characters from this game appear in the Shin/Persona games.

We are talking about the end of the world, here and your Ash Katchchum, searching for pussymon, while your evil twin Gary ( however  in this game he is dressed up as Santa ), is on your hide. After you collect all the cuddle futuristic manimals, you get to go on the ark with that missing character ( you know the girl who appears on the original pokemon poster, but you never get to play as her, that is Linda. )

Here is something else intresting. The animal battles can play out differntly. If you can remember Zelda II, but imagine, Zelda II with an
AI. However strong nutueral oppnents will not budge ( like snorlax ).
Hostile ones will give chase.

The battle system is something, else. You head into the fray with your trusty ChowChow or wolf dog breed ( dogs are valuable you see ). The enemy will act depending on if their is a female or male, within the group. Another instant, is that creatures will spawn for no reason at all, and attack fellow preditors. Meaning a battle can go on for long periods of time, one spawn was like twenty differnt enemies, with anti-forces moving away from each other . Like in "South Park" Chef was eaten by that bear and wild cat. Leftover animals, not absorbed into the ark, can be sold ( I beleive ). I think that is how you get your monies. Simular to Far East Of Eden IV, where you have to sell what you capture. Unless I am mistaken.

You can also buy more ChowChows ( "Wolves" ) as well. Along with live food, like chicken and fish ( believe so ) and sell them. Their is also a method of flight via the aerodactyles.

Note the game has a sorta time frame, after awhile people will turn up in differnt places. The same with senarios. Music changes, animal encounters, With Linda, no Linda. The devil bothers you or less more often

So I finall discover the reason why Santa not me, is dressed up like Santa. Basically the game goes threew the four seasons. It starts in the summer, ( the traditional start of a Japanese year ), and obviously ends in the winter. So when it gets winter, you will know the game is about to fail.

However I am still curous to know why, fake me, keeps asking me for money? Is this sappose to be some sorta Vador, needs money for empire? I don't know. Maybe he speeds up time, or slows down time,
or something else. I would like to know.

Another thing I discovered about the animals. They get weakers on certain kinds of turfs. Meaning you want to tag a wolf, ( which are pretty the most agreessive animal, ( because your team consist of Chow
Chow ) in the game ), If you take a wolf on to a water feild, they will be more easier, but if you hit a wolf, on a plain, it might be more then what you are bargaining for. Also a wolf, is basically a pack animal, so it will run.

Now as time moves along, animals will also migrate, and make your quest harder. So the best thing you need is to get a team of animals, who can kick arse. Think of it like "Star Ocean" you have the really strong level cave with the super items, you can get, but you can also die very easy.

As I mentioned before. You can sell your animal parts ( like in Far East Of Eden IV ) for items. In turn, you can sell, and make money. Since time is not the greatest of your advantage, you might want to hurry along.

If you die, I do not think the money is taken away, but your animal hydes. Which is the worst thing. Imagine if you fight a sewer gator,
which is one of the most fiecest animals in the game, and die with
hydes, some of them will no longer be on you.

Being this game is some how tied to Shin Mega Ten, I do not know if you can perswade the animal to follow you. Because this is pretty much Noahs ark, mission.

Speaking of Japaneseness, it is all over this game itself, considering the pan-eurasian activities of the game itself, you obviously can see this from the direction of everything is.

I used this Saturn how to play guide way back in 99 for the PC-Engine version.  It's not a walkthrough, but more of a "here's sort of how to really play it" guide.

It's supposed to be non-linear, so keep that in mind if you find a guide.

The game is linear depending on the scenario, there are three of them and only the third one is actually non-linear. As you progress through the game (it could either be by level or by animals captured) you'll receive some messages and the story will progress. Only in the third scenario there are events that you can miss if you dont get to a certain place on time or if you fail to meet the conditions to trigger the event by that moment. Scenario A and B kinda work like tutorials for the scenario C that is the real deal and is the one with the complete ending.
