Okay so a friend and I are going to horror out every weekend of October.  His older son's (10 and 6) will also be watching the movies with us.  Granted we don't expect the youngest to watch much if any of the movies.  The older son I know will try and stick with it, because he wants to be seen as a equal and emulate his father already.

So here are the weekends:

EXAMPLE:

Oct 4, 5
Gremlins 1 & 2
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Jason
Pet cemetery

Oct 11, 12
Simpson's Halloween 3, 4, 6, 7
Deadspace 1-3
Nightmare Before Christmas
Corpse Bride

Oct 18, 19
Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
Evil Dead remake
Bubba Ho-tep
The Woods
Man with the Screaming Brain
My Name Is Bruce
Drag Me to Hell

Oct 25, 26
Night of the Dead (Remake)
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Night of the Living Dead 1 -3 (the rest sucked after the 3rd IMO)
Zombie

Let's make this fun!

Feel free to suggest good movies, TV series/special (like Simpson's Halloween Specials).  We are not into torture porn like Saw 2 and up.

Also feel free to suggest good video games to play during the month of October ............

If you happen to know of any good halloween treats to eat that go well with movie/gaming that would be fun.

Like using food dye to turn nacho cheese redish and having bloody nachs (just making it up)

Or caramel popcorn! .....

Watch Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and the Evil Dead remake; then watch Bubba Ho-tep, The Woods, Man with the Screaming Brain, and My Name Is Bruce.  There's no such thing as too much Bruce.

I think I might have to include Firdays now as well

InfraMan

You should sneak The Abominable Dr. Phibes and Dr. Phibes Rises Again in there. The 10-year-old is bound to dig those... I know 10-year-old me did!

Also, I agree that too much Bruce Campbell is never enough Bruce Campbell.

JoshTurboTrollX

I'm also on a quest to find some good scary movies during free time(s) throughout the month.  Here's one I found today...

The Ghost Galleon - Zombie Horror from 1974 - Full Movie

Thought this one was good to listen/watch to during the day..  Has some creepiness to the Knights Templar monsters that are after the poor victims.  However expect lots of 70s cheese complete with bikini babes and the expected sexploitation sleaze....
Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Josh and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner (extortion/blackmail!), never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Oh man, I love the Blind Dead series! The Ghost Galleon is actually my least favorite of the four, but still a fun watch.

I am also trying to watch as many horror films as possible, but sadly most are not appropriate for my 10 year old daughter.

I'll try to watch some of the ones on your list, because it's fun.

Children of the Corn (kinda meh to me)
From Dusk Till Dawn (LOVE IT....but I don't think that pussy line will go well for a 10 yera old)
Re-Animator (First two were great)
They Live (maybe not considered horror though?) (Maybe...it has to do with aliens..and it's great)
Basket Case (Honestly never saw it......kinda never interested me)

If you can find:

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981).

A personal fave since I was in 4th grade. It is probably corny/dated now, but I saw this in '84-'85, so it wouldn't have seemed as dated.

Anyway, you think this is just an average TV film, but there are so many great character actors and a few nods to Frankenstein...there is a genuine, honest spirit to this film that helps deliver its (rather simplistic) message with more power than most films.

Or, I'm just hopelessly nostalgic for this film.

Was it an Australian production? Thank god for Internet, I had a hell of a time finding anything on this back in the day.

ONE SCENE IN PARTICULAR IS HAUNTINGLY POIGNANT AND SHOULD BE REQUIRED FOR ALL FANS OF FILM.

I can't tell you which one (spoiler).

UPDATE: it's finally available on DVD. I just ordered it...wait, I didn't check NetFlix.

deep down inside you are a fan of sex in the city and Bette Midler fan.......

Although I have to admit Sarah Jessica Parker was never attractive to me with those sharp edges on her face and that wart/mold what ever it was on her face...always distracting my gaze when I'd see her...I am glad she finally got it removed........or I think she did.......I am sure when she still had it though it was one less thing the wardrob had to put on for her witch look.....lol

I never understood how Sarah Jessica Parker was ever seen as being attractive, either.

Of course, that doesn't mean I would turn her down.

Bette Midler was great. She played herself, I think. Ha!

Is Hocus Pocus the one where they basically spend the entire movie making fun of the main kid for being a virgin at like 14 years old?

It has an amusing zombie in it. Supernatural stuff. The witches really are evil. That's enough to slide it into the horror genre.  :pcgs:

I always get Hocus Pocus and The Witches mixed up for some reason. If I remember, they came out fairly close together... maybe a couple of years apart? :-k

Also, The Halloween Tree is a cool animated flick that you might want to check out. Not really horror, but about as Halloween-y as you can get.

Medic_wheat

Well doesnt need to be horror. Just halloween themed.

Why isn't the first and second treehouse of horror on your list medic? I really liked the first one where they do Poe and such. Don't remember the second, but i never remember disliking any of them

cool, i remember watching it on Disney channel back in the day every Halloween. I love the movie, only scene i hated was when that one witch would get on her broom and start singing and hypnotizing all the people who would hear the song, made me want to get a pc engine shuttle and shoot her ass!!! lol can't believe that hocus pocus was made back in 93!

Those movies are amazing, totally picked them up on deeveedee ages ago.

Fun fact: Kimberly J. Brown is cute and by that I mean nowadays, not back when she made those flicks, that'd be weird. Although her and I are the same age, I think? Also, I've had a crush on her for years, please don't tell her. :3

I'll give some suggestions in a moment, but here is a great commercial that aired on TV a few times. I know it aired, I think it was the SNL 25th anniversary special? One of the SNL specials, back in the 90s had it, I know because I have a copy of that airing from a VHS recording, and it includes this commercial.

Chevrolet Commercial (Horror Movie Clips)
"Damnit, Beavis, put that away. You're not supposed to have your _____ out when you're cooking".

OK, some good Hallwoeen stuff, not mentioned, from what I saw here;

The Roseanne TV series had some good Halloween specials. Some, not all.

I watch, "Butt-O-Ween", from Beavis and Butthead, every year. Just try to find the orginal airing, otherwise you're missing a clip of Beavis, in the Winger shirt, saying he's going trick-or-treating as, "a wuss".

Tales form the Darkside has the Black Cutty Sow, Halloween Candy, and Trick or Treat. 3 Halloween episodes. I almost always watch Halloween Candy on Halloween.

Garfield Halloween special doesn't air anymore, but it's fun.

SNL Halloween special(s). I always enjoy the clip with Candice Bergen, and Dan Aykroyd, and the dangerous costumes. "Hey, this here, we call it, the invisible pedestrian".

With movies,

I watched The Willies a few years ago, on Halloween. I will view it this October, not on Halloween, though. Good, PG-13 horror.

Creepshow I always bring out this time of year.

E.T., not exactly a Halloween movie, but trick-or-treating plays a key part in the movie.

On my list for this month, also, Night of the Demons. I never though highly of it, but it's been years since I've seen it, and Halloween plays a part in the movie.

On my list for this year, just because,

The Burning - I still haven't watched my blu-ray of it. Must remedy that.)

Club Dread - I need to watch the unrated version, only ever viewed the rated DVD, and the unrated is also on a DVD-9, so better picture quality, gotta give it another go. The ending was goofy wild, from what I recall.

Fright Night (85)

Deep Rising - Saw this int he movie theatre, audience had fun, too bad it did poorly there, though. Seems to have found a cult, now.

Psycho is good. Not many people below a certain age know Busta Rhymes sampled the tune from there. Then again, even that song that samples it is pretty old now, also.

Oh, Halloween 3 revolves around Halloween! Forget the people who hate it, forget it is part of the series, and it's a decent movie on it's own.

Deadly Eyes recently got a legit release. Fun stuff there.

"The Pit", from 1981, is a good one, if you've never seen it. UHF stations near DC used to air it kinda often.

All sorts of stuff out there, but there are a few ideas.

I recently ordered House of Mortal Sin on blu, so I'll watch that, this month. From what I recall, it's a decent movie.

That's enough, for now!

*edited to add;

I also like the stuff, that used to air on the USA network, the shorts;

Saturday Nightmares Short Feature: "The Open Window"

Panic (1978)

Living Dolls (1980) USA Saturday Nightmares

THE DUMMY (1982) Short Horror Film - HBO & USA Network Saturday Nightmares - Lou LaVolpe
