Strangest place you've found PCE games

I was in a Goodwill looking for PS1 and Dreamcast games in the CD section when I found these:

Afterwards I looked through the entire CD rack, twice, hoping I missed some better games. Even though I can't play half of them for the language barrier, at a buck a piece, I still picked them up for the novelty.

Where's the strangest place you've found PCE stuff?

I've never seen any PCE games in the wild, not even at a used game shop.

I've never found tg-16/PCE in the wild.

I live near a retro store, so, sure, they have a crappy tg-16/PCE game (or five).

But in the wild?

Really? I tryed to play it when I got it but it's all Japanese text and speech. Seems unplayable unless you understand Japanese. I only played for about 5 minutes, maybe it's better later on?

I found Poem of Angel at some little random video game store back in the late 90s. It was weird because I never found a PC Engine title in a random game shop like that, they never carried any TG / PCE games after that. It was a trip playing the game with the language barrier.

They probably got the game on trade-in and gave the guy 50 cents. I've never seen Turbografx, much less PCE,  games in any of my local game or thrift stores.

There were also some Japanese DVDs at the Goodwill when I found the PCE games. Since it was in a university town I figure a Japanese student donated what they couldn't fit in their luggage when they were going back home.

Funny how there were no HuCards or games that are easy to play in English. I wonder if someone got there before me.

To find PCE stuff at a game store is one thing. To find Japanese games at a Goodwill is absolutely mind blowing. I stumbled across some PCE stuff at an old video store the other day, but that isn't all that strange for over here.

I found a giant stack at a used game store, that's about it. But given that it's usually rare to see TG16 games at these places, a stack of PCE is still a little bit crazy. They had a few decent games, but their prices were nuts, so I opted to not buy anything, although it may have been worth it if I had games to trade in to them depending on what they gave for credit.

Never seen any PCE games for sale in the wild.
But I did once spot a TG-16 console (around 2001 I think) at a local goodwill.
Funny thing is, the parts were scattered all over the store.  Thankfully I was able to locate the controller, RF unit and AC adapter before buying it.  Total price?  $15.00

Here at the goodwill & salvation army stores here in vegas, i have found a few turbo cd games. They were labeled "media" and were a couple dollars each from the cd music section.

Did you find TurboCD games just once or on several occasions? The Goodwill closest to me used to always have at least a handful of NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis games. They moved location and now they *never* have any games. Does anyone know where Goodwills get their stock from? Is it only from local donations or do they also come from distribution centers?

It's hit and miss. Been a few times though so I know it wasn't a fluke. I'm pretty sure it's just donation based.

Every time I go to Good Will or The Salvation Army I check out the CDs just in case... never found anything PCE/TG related.

Definitely a good strategy.
I've done that in the past and occasional find Dreamcast and PS1 games tucked in with the CD's.
Nothing of value, mind you.  BUt still a nice surprise.

The only place where I saw PCE games for sale with my own eyes was the dealer's room of an Anime convention. Back then I had no idea of how to obey, so I thought these were Anime music CDs at the first glance. When I had a second look, I realized these were videogames.

When I learned more about NEC's consoles, I met the same seller one year later at the same convention and asked him if he had any PCE or Turbo hardware left. He had none at the con, but we arranged a deal for one of his two private own Turbo Duos and Bomberman 94. When I received the parcel, I found out the hardware was premodded for region and RGB. Nice.

The half a year later, the caps got faulty. This was the reason I joined PCEFX. Lol.

Many years ago I found a bunch of complete PC Engine Hucard games at a Ham Radio club electronics swap meet.  Picked up about 40 games for $2 a piece.  Lots of decent titles like PC Genjin 1&2, Ninja Spirit, Magical Chase, plus a good number of shooters.   This lot is still the bulk of my PC Engine collection today. 

Also about 10 years ago, I went on vacation to the Philippines and found a large department store (forgot the name) that sold everything from fresh food, clothes, electronics, furniture, etc.   They also sold a lot of pirate games and systems.  In a cluttered glass case I found a single PC Engine game Armed F that was something like $10.  I bought it mainly because I was excited to find anything PC Engine there.  Surprisingly they also had 2 Turbo Express systems NIB for something like $300 each.

Probably "Landmark" or "SM Markets" -- I was there about 3 years ago and saw a similar type of selection of official and pirate consoles.  They seemed to be pushing that stupid Dingoo (or whatever the heck its called) handheld system heavily when I was there.

In the late 1990's, I was invited by a friend form the university. We talked about french comics and said he a lots of them in some drawers. he told me to check and I discovered he also had pc engine games ! Back then, this guy was not into video games at all and I really didn't expect he would have ever played video games.

Also, in 2001, in Japan, I found a copy of Twin Bee on the shelf of a piece of furniture in some recycle shop, among porno VHS

very true but I have found some japanese games at a goodwill before. my recent japanese grab from goodwill was a dreamcast copy of biohazard code veronica for $2. before that was japanese tetris, yoshsis cookie, and  donkey kong gb for the game boy $3 each

It's fun and has some neat artwork, but it'll require some effort to play if you don't know your moonrunes.  If you expect everything to be spoon fed to you, then yeah, it's "unplayable".

The strangest place I've found PCE games is Japan.  That place is pretty crazy! ;)
Seriously... I remember finding someone selling a stack of Hueys out in a free-air flea market outside of (what was at the time) Skymark Stadium in Kobe.  I asked him how much for the stack, and eventually I think we settled on about 1000 yen ($10).  Some pretty good stuff in there, too!  All loose, but I got Twinbee, Space Harrier, and a few others in that batch, I think.

I have yet to find any PCE games in the wild unfortunately, but I did find my TG16 at a local game store with 12 games. It was kind of bizarre because I just discovered the Turbo right before that. It was meant to be I tell ya  .
