Snes repair

Anyone here do Snes repairs? I found my brother's old Snes at my dad's house this weekend, the system powers on, but the graphics on any of the games I have tested are garbled. Cleaned the shit out of the cartridge slot too. It's missing the power connector in the back and is a gen 1 as in August 1991 vintage. Just browsing on ebay to see what the systems are going for holy crap $50-70 for them these days, it ain't right.. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

You probably need to replace the power port on the back, it takes some light soldering.

Man, I hate the crappy power jack they put on the SNES, why they couldn't just use a generic barrel jack like everything else is beyond me.

I think it is so no one could try to use the NES power supply, which supplies straight AC without adapting to DC.

Same thing happened to my SNES. I pulled it out of storage and it worked fine for 3 days or so, then garbled glitched out graphics. The weird thing is the intro and title screen graphics displayed fine. It did not garble until you started the game.

Someone indicated, from here I think, that it was a memory chip failure and would not be easily repaired without a replacement chip. I said screw it and sold the broke one for $10, and bought one off eBay for $30.

I'm sure I'll get flac from the box collectors out there, but I did find the old snes box with the original receipt for $200 (August 23rd, 1991). However, the mice had had their way with it and totally destroyed it. I should have put it on ebay as a joke, but instead just burned it. Would have been a awesome title, "Holy snes console box blessed by mice. Comes with mouse turds."

That snes was bought only a few days after I was born...jeez...

My original SNES had the same graphical problems, garbled is exactly how I described it lol. It was really weird in that some things worked fine and others were just completely jacked up.

Forgot to mention..... In regards to price, if you buy one that is console only ( no cords or controllers) its a lot more affordable. That's how I got mine for $30. It was in great shape too, no discolored plastic or scrapes and gouges.

Did you try using RF? On my "vintage" model 1, using composite I get wrong colors (looks kinda like macrovision), I tried 3 known good working cables, no dice. Using RF the colors are correct.

Yeah, I did try both av and rf. Found out through Desh it sounds like the power port is malfunctioning so I sent it off to him.
