What's hilarious is, as far as I know, we STILL DON'T KNOW the terms and conditions for folks who want to publish games are!

What sort of license fees? Profit-sharing? Guarantees?

The only thing I read about is that the VGS folks know that they could NEVER expect any sort of exclusivity deal with an independent publisher because VGS has not established a significant user-base, nor does VGS have truckloads of $$$ to bribe a developer with.

So, we still don't know what the term and conditions are, which is the most important thing for a developer/publisher.

They can get exclusivity deals for almost any game, they just have to pay enough for it. Maybe they'll do separate kickstarters for each exclusive. Anyone foolish enough to back the console will be happy to pay to have a game remain exclusive until the console goes under soon after.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

I love how it is a "retro" console with analogue nubs.  Granted it could be nice for games like outrun or space harrier.  Still though.  Analogue with retro?  I guess ps1 and Saturn is retro?

Let's see classic games with analog controls...

Pong Comes to mind. Missile command. Star Wars. Tron. Breakout. Arkanoid. Tons of Apple II games. Vectrex.

Frankly, there are hundreds.

this is too funny.  now they said they are going to have cartridge adapters for NES, coleco, intelivision, and Atari 2600 games to justify the high price tag.  They really did not do themselves any favors by announcing this thing so early with no idea what the final product would be.

LostFlunky

It is looking more and more like an elaborate prank...  sadly, it isn't.

SignOfZeta

There is nothing prankish about it, nothing nefarious or scheming either. Some people just have to learn the hard way that it's a terrible idea to take people's money before you've got a product to deliver.

The guy could have just read up on how much work goes into a product like this, even a bad one, before its done. He could have figured this out for himself. Now he'll have to learn in front of the entire internet.

I wonder what maniac will receive the ultimate backer perk: 2000 lbs of Jaguar tooling.

Hahahaha .... so it really is a $400 Retron 5! And those "Cartridge Adapters" will be an extra cost option.

They still don't have any idea what the final product will be.

CrackTiger

If this thing in whatever final form does actually end up releasing, I hope that someone comes out with a Retro VGS cart adaptor for the Retron 5 or similar fake consoles.

It'd be hilarious if you have the option of buying a Retro VGS + 6 cart adapters for $800 or a Retron 5 + Retro VGS cart adapter for $250 and play the same libraries.

There is a difference between turn paddle/trackball games and an analogue nub like on a psx controller.  These controllers seem to be analogue nubs for 3d games.

The PCE and MD have games which support analog controls.

Of course modern analog nubs aren't going to re reate the same experience.

So is a d-pad a different controller than a joystick to you? If it's a Dual Shock or an Afterburner machine, analog sticks, which track voltages across two axis, X and Y, have been around since the earliest days. In fact, analog was more common in the early days. Pong for example is a %100 analog game, it doesn't even have code. Most 8-bit computers had analog sticks (making playing Falcon a little more fun). There are tons of examples. Assuming MAME would make an aperence on the VGS (it won't, nothing will) then dual analogs would be invaluable.

I'm not but every brand  that wanted to make a console had to magnavox a sum of money for the patent or something like that(I know this won't make money but do they still have to pay it?)?

I understand analogue.  I think you're missing my point.  Try playing Time soldier with Dual Shock nubs and let me know how fun it is to play.

I am pretty sure the Bally Astrocade had a small stick with rotational capabilities - but I haven't seen one in over 15 years.
