2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Saccing of Batman Return of the Joker for Nes caused the game to go up in price?

Quoth09 pointed this to me:
I was not aware people like Game-Tech were doing this with the game (Game-Tech admits to saccing 30 or so of them himself). What I had noticed was that over the past couple of years the game has been going up in price though, and I am wondering if the two are directly related.

It used to be you could easily get the game for under $20. Now you are having to pay $30 or more if you want the game. Seriously, was there just no other game that could have been used to do this? Batman Return of the Joker is a sweet fucking game. I could understand saccing like sports games or THQ games or something, but fucking Batman?

Yeah currently no BIN price under $36 for a loose cart. Last time I had a Nes I got this game for like $16 shipped via BIN.....

You know, another thing about this kind of irks me. Its not like Gimmick isn't on any system. There is a Famicom and Pal release. People could just buy the Famicom cart and an adapter. No need to fucking kill Batman to play this game.

EDIT: I see now, Gimmick on Famicom fetches over $400, so people kill a perfectly good game like Batman to make cheaper repros to sell in the $60-100 range. Honestly, is there just no other game that can be used to do the Gimmick repro carts?

There's no other game that can be used to make Gimmick repro carts. However, RetroUSB at one point was selling one that was made from entirely new parts and no donors. They no longer sell it however.

Added in edit: The PAL release runs glitched on NTSC systems and goes for even more than the Famicom one.

Yeah was reading about that. The whole FME-7 thing. That seriously sucks. So I guess I would have to ask this, is Gimmick a better game then Batman was?

It's NES fanboys..."better" has nothing to do with it. It's all about rarez and how much you can spend on "conversational pieces".

Couldn't people just start saccing Famicom carts like Gremlins 2 or something? The thing with Batman doesn't sit right with me I guess because I always really liked that game. Also, wasn't Gimmick in Japan using Sunsoft 5b. That one supported extra audio. FME-7 doesn't do that, so I am guessing Gimmick on Nes doesn't sound as good, no?

Yeah, the NES repros are usually based on a cancelled NES NTSC version that was sent out to magazines but not released to the market. It's the complete game with re-worked audio for the NTSC NES.

Actually, it's the *Sacking of the game that's made the prices go up.

They've been steadily climbing since Joe & Dave's "Games that push hardware limits" episode.

Buh buh buh, I have almost all teh games evar.  I R TEH BESTEST COLLECTR!!

It is true that this likely drove the price up.  I wanted to make myself a Gimmick for so long but couldn't bring myself to sacrifice a good and harder to find game in order to do it.  Thankfully, there is now another way.  These products are all new so there is no need to sacrifice original games http://www.infiniteneslives.com/nessupplies.php  That is one reason I have always liked Retrousb as well, they use all new stuff.

Based on trends I have been seeing with new game developers and also some of the smart software folks making "collection carts" (i.e. all 6 Mega Man games on one cart) these guys have also been using all new boards and cart shells.  I hope this push continues.  It is also easier to make a game this way whether it's a flash board or new board that is already set up to match eprom pinouts.  A little piece of me dies every time an Astynax is sacrificed to make a fake Little Samson.

Please stop the madness, stop killing Batman Return of the Joker.

it sucks this game doesn't work correctly on a everdrive. I'm sure that would help save some return of the joker carts

If I'm reading that right, you can buy all new parts for about the same cost as destroying a $30 Batman?  Why're peeps not buying new?!?

Thanks for having a working link.  Not sure why mine is broken.

I actually kinda like Gremlins 2, also.  Wish people wouldn't destroy any games for this purpose, honestly.  I would say sports games maybe but even with those I have a ton of exceptions.

Looks like that company is saccing every retro controller they can get their hands on.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Psycho Punch

Remember when bunnyboy used to sell new boards and NES cart shells?

I wonder if there's going to be anything similar for the turbo in the future. It's both good and bad depending on how you look at it.

For not much more than that, you could just buy an Everdrive and not have to sac anything.  Playing Gimmick that way is no less "fake" than playing a repro.

PunkCryborg

Most people are buying the infinite lives board to make gimmick now since batman got pricey. Gremlins 2 sometimes works but its hit or miss if the cart will have the right chip.

Why do people destroy a fine game for a game I haven't even heard of? Go destroy a copy of Golf or Soccer!
The Dreamcast is still alive, so go play it before it kills your family!

Because those games don't have the chips necessary to make Mr. Gimmick

The expanded audio from the JP version is isn't emulated so the audio is wrong. The PAL and 60hz fixed NTSC version has the extra audio completely absent

Poaching old carts is the worst :( make it all from stretch or don't make it, please!

One of the games that push the Nes limits most is being scavenged ti make Mr Gimmick's repros... until the point where ROTJ becomes an even rarer game.
