Here is a little more info for anyone who doesn't want to watch the video.

There is a game collector named Tim Atwood who bought a lot of 6 game cases of sealed NES games back in the early 90's when they were being liquidated. Apparently he was getting annoyed at people inflating the price of games by trying to corner the market on them and has decided to sell off some/all of his sealed games to crash the market.

Apparently he had to pull some of his listings because he was advertising selling Stadium Events in them.

I don't think he has to enforce them too much since he hand picks the people he sells to.  The 12 copies that have supposedly been sold already happened a while ago, and the collecting community didn't know about them until just recently (and because of Tim rather than the buyers).

Pros
1.  He seems to be giving his friends deep discounts on games he got at a deep discount.
2.  He uses the term sucking dick like SJWs never existed.
3.  His free listing on ebay point is spot on.

Cons
1.  The mention of grading games ruining a hobby seems fairly hypocritical from a sealed game collector.  Also mentioning the guy buying up multiple copies while he himself has held these games for decades is ironic.
2.  It also seems like it is too easy for someone who purchased games at a steep discount with what appears to be a dumb luck find of the century to criticize those overpaying for games.
3. Even though it makes sense he doesn't want someone to flip a game he sells at a discount for profit, the NDA seems odd.

The ebay purchases for $100 each may have been good timing, or maybe he was one of the eBay F5 refresh originators.

In actuality, think that this guy is just like 95% of us, pretty good guy with some hypocritical views.  His views just have more weight because of his stash and Internet fame.  He doesn't appear to be an outright flipper jerk nor does he appear to be generous like Beamer or some of those around here, he's somewhere in the middle with the rest of us.

Or, at least, he could have prevented it from ever getting that high in the first place. Instead, he stayed silent.

I see your point, but I still think that buyer who paid $35k for his sealed copy wouldn't have paid that, knowing that 18 more copies could hit the market, if atwood had changed his mind (which happened!). The only reason the turd known as Stadium Events has any value, is because it is a trophy piece. Its a far less interesting trophy piece when there are 20 in the world instead of 2.

Who knows, maybe the original sealed SE buyer was some oil baron, who wipes his ass with $35k. Then its probably stacked on top of six Fabergé eggs in his back closet.

I hate to say it, but I totally agree. 20$ is the breaking point where I start to seriously consider if I will put more than a few hours into a game. 100$+ it has to be a childhood glorious memory, or something I will sink  100+ hours into. 1$/hr? paying more than 20$ for any game alone is pretty crazy imo. games gotta be pretty amazing to get me to pay more than that. that being said tho i'd pay a bit more to get some arcade pcbs that don't have some sort of flashcart or other cheap means of playing on original hardware

It's a lot harder for me to jump into new games, yeah, which is why I hate saying that.

I picked up Xenoblade Chronicles X last year and have since put 110$ hours into it - so the new game price feels like a good investment.

I plan on picking up Uncharted 4 to play with my fiance - she likes to watch these games for the spectacle and story like an action movie - and I doubt it will take me more than 10 hours to beat that, so that's ~$6/hour, but I might just rent that at redbox over the weekend making it 60 cents an hour... I've always been a cheep skate/rental guy - most of the old games I've picked up have been supplimenting my library with games I played a lot as rentals.

So yeah, I typically wait for price drops to pick up games, unless I know I'll sink time into it and want to play it urgently. I'll probably pay full price for FFXV...

Never bought games at full price. I usually wait until around next generation to buy a console. hype train is over rated

Also I haven't really bought any RPGs lately, I have so many older ones to play still . I did pick up dark souls 2 with all the DLC on ps3 for 25$ though. that's one of those amazing games that's worth it, especially considering i get atleast 100 hours play time from them. Actually now that i think of it I picked up dragons dogma dark arisen for around the same cost too. i guess my limit goes up by 5$ for RPGs lol. big spending

This is what has bothered me about the CUPodcast video as well as others calling this guy a hero or a saint.

Part of the reason SE hit $35k for a sealed copy was the belief that only maybe one or two existed in new condition. On the NA registry, there are only 9 CIB or New copies. This new information tripled the known number of CIB/New in existence. Essentially, by hiding the fact that these 18 copies existed for 20+ years, he helped that game attain its high price tag. Or, at least, he could have prevented it from ever getting that high in the first place. Instead, he stayed silent.

James Brown was the godfather of soul, yet he beat his wife. The greatness of ones works doesn't increase as one removes sin from their lives. I don't know why that's such a problem for people to understand. Someone can be a complete prick but still do something cool, maybe on a regular basis even. 

Anyone who collects sealed cases of shit is probably an ass but if this is all above board, it's pretty terrific. I would *love* to be able to drop a bomb like that on those assholes. I would like to find a skid of this shitty unplayable non-game and tank the value of his six copies as well as the others. Circus Lido that shit right into the dollar bin.

Agreed, I've paid 150$ for NHL playoff tickets, and I subscribed to CABLE for a while recently, so it's very hypocritical for me to say. I think it's because I already have a glut of games I've not played enough of - it's difficult for me to sell my myself (let alone my fiance) on getting any new games when I already have a bunch to play.

games are more of a time-wasting individual past time then something more eventful with friends like a movie or sports game. a good cheap solo past time.

It is bat shit crazy that anyone would pay that much for a game, even if you are a rich ass with money To burn. To me, even 4 figures is crazy for a game.

Even 3 figures is crazy in my book.  I have done it a couple of times in the past (especially on PC Engine imports during the 90's) but I wouldn't again for a single game I don't think.  I could be wrong but I can't think of anything I'd blow $100+ on anymore.
